New Jersey Casinos Win $380 Million In January

Total Industry Gambling Win Up 10% Over January 2021

Atlantic City, NJAccording to the latest figures from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, total gaming revenue reported by casinos, racetracks, and their partners was $381.7 million for January 2022, a 10.3% increase from $346.2 million reported in January 2021.

Revenue from retail casino gambling for the nine casino hotel properties in the state was $183.6 million for January 2022, an increase of 14.8% compared to $160.0 million for January 2021, regulators said in their monthly announcement.

Slot machines accounted for about $129 million of the in-person gambling win, with table games generating about $54.5 million in January.

Internet casino win reported by casinos and their partners was $137.8 million, up 32.8% compared to $103.8 million from January of last year.

Online poker was about $2.5 million of that online casino figure, a fall of 6.8% year-over-year.

Sports betting winnings reported by casinos, racetracks, and their partners was $60.2 million for the month, reflecting a 26.9% decline when compared to $82.4 million for the prior period. Sports betting revenue has more variance for operators due to the nature of the offering.

Online poker and sports betting revenues were the only year-over-year declines for the Garden State casino gambling industry.

The New Jersey casino gambling market in its entirety was $4.7 billion in 2021, up 64.4% over 2020 and up 36.6% over 2019 when there was no pandemic.

The state’s casino gambling market was relatively immune to the pandemic thanks to its robust online betting industry that kept revenues afloat for operators.
