Nevada casinos won $20.1 million from sports bettors this past June, according to state figures released last week. More than half the money came from baseball.

The winnings were up 27 percent compared to June 2017. Over the most recently completed three months of action, the casinos won $56.9 million, up 68 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Over the 12 months prior to July 1, 2018, the 190 sports books won $281.6 million, up 23 percent.

The books had winnings percentages of 7, 6.2, and 5.7 over the aforementioned periods, respectively. More than $4.93 billion was bet on sports over the 12-month span.

The industry continues to grow to record levels. June’s winnings continued a nearly five-year-long winning streak for the books. They last were in the red for just a single month back in 2013.

In an effort to capture a share of a potentially $6 billion market for sports betting revenue by 2023, the state of Mississippi this month became just the fourth state in the country with the activity. More are expected to follow suit this year.
