The lucrative Maryland gambling market is set to get a big boost next year when Maryland Live! opens its highly anticipated $200 million hotel complex. On Tuesday, the casino will raise and place the final steel beam onto the hotel structure.

The “topping-off” ceremony will put the 23-foot steel beam onto the 17th story, which will make it the tallest building in Anne Arundel County, according to the casino.

The 310-room hotel tower will feature meeting space, as well as a spa, fitness center, concert venue and new shopping and dining options. About 1,000 additional parking spaces are also to be added to the property.

The entire casino-hotel complex will be rebranded as Live! Casino & Hotel.

The project is the largest enhancement and investment at the casino since its opening in June 2012. The Cordish Companies, owner of the casino, announced the project in June 2016, ahead of the December opening of the $1.4 billion MGM National Harbor located outside of Washington D.C.

Ground was broken on the hotel complex back in September 2016.

This month it was announced that the Card Player Poker Tour will make a stop at Maryland Live! in January. The casino is home to a 15,000-square foot, 52-table poker room. Opening just three years ago, the room is the largest in the state and one of the largest in the country.

Maryland’s poker revenue grew by 33 percent year-over-year in September, making it the hottest poker cash game market in the nation currently. Overall gambling revenue at the state’s six casinos was up nearly 40 percent last month.
