Macau, the world’s top gambling hub, has a huge average minimum bet for its non-VIP table games. VIP tables, which have much higher stakes, were not included in the data.

In other words, your run-of-the-mill, non-high-roller customer in Macau spends a lot more than his/her counterpart in other gambling hubs around the world.

According to a report from CNN Money, Macau’s average minimum is $270, more than 13 times that of Las Vegas. The report added that “it’s nearly impossible to find a table with a minimum bet of less than $65.” Baccarat also drives 91 percent of Macau gambling dollars.

Last year, the former Portuguese colony won more than $45 billion from gamblers.

This year, fortunes have turned, as the city has seen multiple months of gaming revenue decline. In September, Deutsche Bank revised its estimates on Macau, saying that gaming revenue there would grow by just one percent this year. The bank had predicted 10-percent growth.

According to Reuters, a stepped-up campaign against corruption and falling housing prices in China were the reasons for weaker demand from high-rolling VIP customers.

Macau currently has 35 casinos. A total of eight more resorts are in the pipeline.
