Some of the biggest hands in online poker history happened this week in the high-stakes games on CoinPoker. A mysterious new account, ‘BTCdemon,’ showed up and sat in at some of the biggest no-limit hold’em cash games on the site, both heads-up tables and six-max. One of their matches saw them go to war with Chris ‘Lukabrate’ Nguyen, a swingy battle $1,000-$2,000 with $400 ante.
In the end, Nguyen booked a massive win, but it didn’t come easily. He lost a $1.1 million pot all in preflop with pocket kings against A-Q. However, he was able to rebound and win about $400,000. A couple of key six-figure hands helped him get there.
Gin River Card Gets Nguyen Paid
Playing almost $528,000 deep, Nguyen opened on the button to $4,400 and called a three-bet to $15,222.
The flop came A♦10♠2♠, and BTCdemon checked. Nguyen checked it back to see the 9♠ arrive. BTCdemon bet $23,433, Nguyen raised to $82,015, and BTCdemon called. BTCdemon check-called a bet of $146,456 on the 10♥ river.
Nguyen showed 8♠6♠ for a flush, besting the K♥10♦ of BTCdemon, good for second-best trips. Nguyen raked in a pot of more than $488,000.

Hand Analysis
Preflop, Nguyen has a good hand to raise, but BTCdemon makes a somewhat ill-advised three-bet. These offsuit Broadway combos lose a lot of value in deep-stacked situations, as hands that make straights, flushes, and sets become much more valuable. Nguyen has an easy call against the three-bet.
The flop is quite favorable for the big blind, but the solver still likes playing a lot of checks, because position is key in these dynamic deep-stacked situations. That’s the route BTCdemon goes, and Nguyen passes on a reasonable bluffing opportunity. Smaller flush draws are usually decent hands to start bluffing with, but checking is a fine play as well.
Nguyen gets there right away and faces a bizarre lead from BTCdemon. Betting a pair of tens here for a big size makes little sense, since it’s hard to get paid by worse. If a lot of money goes into the pot, a pair of tens will almost never be the best hand.
Nguyen puts in a raise, which isn’t a solver-approved play against a balanced range, because the big blind has an equity advantage on this board. However, when the opponent is much too wide, raising for value is going to become quite good.
The pairing river doesn’t dissuade Nguyen from going for another street of big value. Again, the solver is pretty leery of valuing flushes here, as it prefers checking anything worse than a king-high flush. But against BTCdemon’s range, betting for value is the play, and Nguyen gets paid for a half-million-dollar pot.
Nguyen Catches BTCdemon Semibluffing in Monster Pot
Playing a $444,000 stack, Nguyen raised to $4,400 and called a three-bet to $15,225 from BTCdemon.
BTCdemon checked the 10♥9♠8♣, and Nguyen bet $16,500. BTCdemon check-raised to $64,687, and Nguyen called. On the 4♣, BTCdemon bet $120,468. Nguyen shoved all in for $365,681, and BTCdemon called.
Nguyen turned over 7♣6♥ for a straight, and BTCdemon had A♥J♦ for a straight draw. They didn’t get there, as the river was the 2♥. Nguyen won a pot worth $891,987.

Hand Analysis
Preflop, BTCdemon does fine this time, as A-J is the bottom of the offsuit value range for the big blind at this depth.
Checking the flop is good too, as this isn’t a particularly favorable situation for the big blind in a three-bet pot. While they still have a small range advantage, playing deep-stacked and out of position on such a dynamic board is very difficult. Therefore, keeping the pot smaller is ideal.
Nguyen decides to start building the pot with his straight, and he faces a check-raise. Calling is the best option for continuing, as these low straights are dead against some of the opponent’s value range. As for BTCdemon’s bluff, it’s a low-frequency play but fine. The big blind needs some straight draws in the raising range.
BTCdemon keeps the pressure on with a turn barrel, only to see Nguyen rip it all in. BTCdemon is getting a little more than 3-1 on their call, but they are about a 5-1 underdog to make a straight. This hand simply isn’t strong enough to bet-call for stacks. The big blind needs a combo draw like Kc-Jc that has potential to scoop the entire pot against a nutted holding in order to call.
The misstep proves costly as BTCdemon sees a pot worth almost $900,000 pushed the other way after bricking.
