A new gaming revenue record has been set in Macau, and this time it was smashed.

The month of February netted the casinos there $4.8 billion from gambling. That revenue figure marked an incredible 40-percent gain year-over-year.

According to Reuters, analysts were expecting big gains, but not quite that much.

The previous record of $4.57 billion was set this past October.

For comparison, the entire state of Nevada brought in $11.14 billion from gamblers during all of 2013. The Las Vegas Strip is outpaced by Macau in less than two months.

There are around 30 casinos in Macau. It’s not surprising that more are in the pipeline.

Some of the top casino firms in the United States have properties there.

In 2013, Macau saw $45.2 billion in gambling revenue, which was also a record. According to The Wall Street Journal, at least one analyst has predicted that Macau gambling revenue will grow by another 20 percent in 2014, while another says that in 2017 it will hit a whopping $77 billion. Macau is the only place in China where gambling is legal.
