Report: Nevada Sports Books Win Big On Super Bowl

Profit Expected To Be One Of The Largest Recorded

The big game yesterday is expected to have netted Nevada sports books millions in profits, according to reporting from the Las Vegas Sun.

Around two out of every three sports bettors wagered on Denver minus-2.5 against Seattle. The Seahawks crushed, winning by a score of 43-8 and making the game itself a dud.

Silver State sports books win often on the Super Bowl, but not usually this big. According to the report, casinos will post a profit on it for the 21st time in 23 years. Nevada tracks the Super Bowl as its own entity. Official numbers are expected later this week.

Around $100 million reportedly was bet on the game in Nevada. There were reports that more than $10 million of that came from Floyd Mayweather alone.

Last year, the sports books had what was considered a big win of $7.2 million on the game.

The win this year could have been larger if the first score of the game wasn’t a safety. Casinos offer action on prop bets, and many people reportedly bet on that happening.

In 2013, Nevada casinos won just over $200 million on sports betting, up around 19 percent from 2012. Casinos statewide reported overall gambling revenue of $11.14 billion.

Sports betting beat out poker revenues, which were just under $124 million in 2013.
