Bracelet Winner Barred From World Series Of Poker

David Diaz Says He Engaged In Some Misconduct While Blacked Out

Poker pro David Diaz, who won a bracelet in 2011, has been 86’ed from the World Series of Poker. Diaz took to Twitter soon after the incident happened.

A spokesperson for the World Series of Poker confirmed that Diaz had been booted, but declined to discuss the matter, citing legal reasons. It’s unclear exactly what happened.

Two days after he was kicked out, Diaz was still coming to grips with not being able to play any more poker tournaments at the Series this year.

Some poker pros took to Twitter to voice support for Diaz. Those players included Matt Waxman and Chance Kornuth, who Tweeted that “we all get drunk sometimes” and that Diaz “is one of the nicest guys in poker and deserves another chance.”

Diaz had cashed twice during the 2013 WSOP.

Whiney troll needs to stop drinking it's his own fault for being kicked out of the Rio.

Good for the Rio. Nice to see a jerk get it in the neck. Too often do assholes get away with asshole behavior.

This is an adult who got so drunk he claims he doesn't remember anything?
So, he doesn't remember anything and Caesars Entertainment is not talking but they banned him. He was so bad, CE doesn't want his money. Yet some people want him forgiven although they, unless they were there, do not know what he did while drunk.
I'm wondering if we could have those forgiving people banned also just for being stupid?

There must be a lot of sensitive dudes on this blog cuz I don't think getting drunk and doing some dumb stuff is that big a deaL.I bet The Rio had no trouble serving him alcohol hoping he'd jump over into the pit games,if he was drunk at the Rio,i'm sure he did some of his drinking there on the property

I was just at the RIO, and I saw a totally wasted drunk player at the cash game tables get booted by mgmt. for being too wasted. It was the right call, and he was simply asked to pack it in for the night.

I can only imagine Diaz went way way beyond just being totally wasted to get banned from this years WSOP. And kudos to WSOP for not tolerating this ridiculous behavior. People have become jaded and think just because they are in "Vegas" they can get publicly wasted, act like an ahole in public, and expect it to be tolerated. That's bullchit and I'm glad RIO is drawing a line at least somewhere.

Yo Fly,on the other hand,The Rio is the one feeding everyone all these FREE drinks hoping they run into the pit and put it all on black lol.Im sure he went off the deep end but they should've cut it short before it got that far by saying,"Diaz,go to your room or hotel or we'll take you to our place The Grey Bar Motel".Usually the threat of jail gets the point across, and by the way, Where was this guys friends the whole time, you mean to tell me nobody(a friend) had the sense to grab him and say" dude, your gonna end up in jail or toothless if you don't chill" this guy has some really good friends that really care about him.I know were all grown men,but alcohol can do wonders to ppl.And the Rio should be a little more proactive about recognizing when ppl are too loaded.

Brum, you are right, some people given the luxury of free drinks can only drink to excess.

I have known David for a lot of year, even before he played poker, and I have never seen him that way. I know how much this means to him so I feel for him. I am sure the Rio is just trying to protect their customers, it is just a sad situation.

I have no problem with jerk behavior getting tossed off the felt. My experience is that you have to be pretty far over the line to get warned, let alone removed.

he got what he deserves....this clown is lucky someone didn't break his jaw, and for him to say like a coward"i dont remember anything" only reinforces the importance of keeping him out and away.....i hope they ban his sorry ass for 365 days.

No, he does not deserve a second chance, bracelet win or no bracelet win.

Interesting that he has taken to twitter to plead with the wsop which probably has no say in the issue period. Also, why does he need the wsop? Is he broke? Does he have backers that are now pissed beyond belief? Just plain interesting.

Hopefully, he uses his ban for something good and gets help if he needs it. Otherwise, maybe this is a life lesson in the perils of drinking.

As far as the RIO being culpable for giving the drinks away, yes, maybe the do need to review how much alcohol a player receives, but it is pretty likely that Diaz got it from multiple sources not just from one bar or one waitperson. Also, should I sue GM for allowing a drunk to buy a car who hits my family?

When I hear people who so obviously don't care about the person in question say "I hope he gets help" after some drunken incident like this, I just want to puke a little.

And how do you know he doesn't deserve a second chance?

Your speculation as to "why he needs the WSOP" is just bizarre. Is it not really obvious? I could try to explain to you why he wants back in but I honestly think you wouldn't understand.

You read much? Notice I said, " . . . if he needs it"

No one NEEDS the wsop -

Geez dude, go back to killing lions . . . or whatever you do.
