Bankrupt Jersey Casino To Lift Smoking Ban

Most Expensive Property Ever Built There Will Change Some Things

Atlantic City’s most expensive casino ever, which officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week, will soon allow gamblers to smoke, according to court documents.

Smoking bans are not common for casinos.

After opening in 2012, Revel casino never managed to put together a winning streak, quickly falling to the bottom of the pack among the city’s gambling joints. Revel’s failures can’t be solely blamed on its own decisions, however. Atlantic City has been slumping since 2006, and its fortunes don’t appear to be turning around anytime soon. Some are waiting on the implementation of web gambling to fix things. Gov. Chris Christie legalized that last month.

Revel ran into financial issues before even getting built. It took six years to complete and required an additional $1.1 billion investment in 2011, along with state help.

The restructuring of its roughly $1.2 billion worth of debt will not interrupt its day-to-day operations or affect employees, the company has said.
