The 10th anniversary running of the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure gets underway today at the Atlantis Resort & Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, with 40 events taking place over the 10-day festival that runs from January 5th through the 14th.

In recent years PCA has grown to be one of the biggest events on the tournament circuit every year, consistently making a huge impact on the Card Player Player of the Year race. The winner has finished inside the top ten in the POY race four out of the last five years, with prior champions including the likes of Gus Hansen (2004), Ryan Daut (2007), Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (2008) and Galen Hall (2011).

2012 PCA main event champ John DibellaThe 2012 PCA awarded a four seven-figure paydays, starting off with the $1,254,400 that went to online cash game phenom Viktor “Isildur1” Blom for topping the 32-player field in the $100,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em super high roller. In the $10,300 PCA main event, which drew 1,072 entrants, both eventual champion John Dibella and runner-up Kyle Julius pocketed seven-figure scores. Dibella earned $1,775,000 while Julius took home $1.5 million after a deal was made heads-up. Rounding out the quartet of big winners was Leonid Bilokur, who took home $1,134,930 for topping a field of 148 players in the $25,500 high roller event.

During this year’s 10-day run a total of 40 separate tournaments will take place, with buy-ins ranging from as low as $300 to as high as $100,000 in the super high roller event which gets underway today.

Of course, the true focus of the series will be the $10,300 no-limit hold’em main event that runs from Jan. 7th – 13th. Other notable events include a $25,500 no-limit hold’em high roller that runs from the 12-14 and a $10,300 six-handed turbo that gives players a last shot at a big score on the festival’s closing day, January 14th.
