All Poker No Politics

I am going to finally write a politics free all poker related blog so everyone can be happy and there will be no controversy.

People have actually asked me to weigh in on the topic of the month, sunglasses.

I wear sunglasses occasionally, used to wear prescription sunglasses for a while until I got the laser eye surgery. I really can’t see much of a down side for the person wearing them. They are more relaxing and conceal your eyes, of course.

Should they be allowed is the question though. I honestly don’t care much, so long as I can still wear a hat, does pretty much the same thing.

If I were in charge of one of the made for TV events I would not allow them. I think it is better TV without them, and it wouldn’t hurt participation at all.

I think banning them in open events would hurt the attendance by some of the weakest players, so I wouldn’t want that.

In live cash games I wonder how it would work if it was a table by table option? Like 10-20 no limit(no sunglasses). I bet all those strongly against sunglasses would flock to the other table that allowed them as soon as the right player sat down with his sunglasses on. As it always has been in cash games people will do what the live one wants.

Your post is a "dead on" evaluation of the issue, especially the last line.

I don't see why many people seem to think sunglasses detract from the TV poker. Just look at Helmuth and Matasow; they wear glasses, and provide most of the interesting moments on TV; it's about the plays and what they say much more than looking at their eyes. Obviously seeing Ivey's face uncovered doesn't make the game interesting, since it never changes. Once on Poker after Dark they had a game with Howard L. and a bunch of old timers (not Doyle); they all played tight and said nothing; none wore glasses, but it was the most boring TV show, even if it was good poker. I just don't think sunglasses would make a TV show more boring.

Lee,

I never though you were good poker player. You are wrong about sunglasses. Players should be able to wear hats, hoodies and sunglasses if they want to. No discussion.Period. It is a BS for anyone to try limiting them. It is a part of poker culture. I could not care if anyone wears sunglass but some players need them for medical conditions. Why don't you just ban online poker--you can't see your opponent's face, let alone their eyes.

IT is the stupidest thing anyone started. Does not suprise me coming from most moronic poker player currently - danny boy. He is the one actually cheating. Maybe every entry fees should be paid by the poker players and not from sponsors, since that gives unfair advanatage. Just moronic.

Maybe during WSOP, only players staying on hotels should be allowed play because staying in a house is unfair advantage to other players.

You poker players are just greedy ---morons.

I'm going to be really excited the first time I see a good argument in favor of sunglasses. Everyone who argues against them provides reasoning and logic, while everyone for them just either A) misinterprets the argument and runs with it or B) starts insulting the person making the argument.

It's disgusting how un-intelligent (and not to mention hateful) 90% of the posts on these blogs are.

Lee, thanks for your opinion. I haven't really taken a stance on the subject of sunglasses yet, but it was interesting to hear yours, whether I end up agreeing with it or not.

Richenough I think you proved Terence The turtle's point for him with your post. You start out by calling him a name then you insult him. After that you bring up Dustin Schmidt and Roy Winston both of whom have stated they at this time donot care either way about sunglasses. At which point you insult him again. Then you make your arguement for sunglasses which are legitimate and good points. Then you close by calling Daniel N. a name just because he is on the other side of the arguement. This approach to the discussion kind of kills your good points.

Lee....the fact that texasroaddumbbell agrees with you ought to give you pause. I wonder if he knows what a slippery slope we are on by banning sunglasses...and how it would affect people like him. He should be wary that the next 'banning' would most likely affect him...for instance;

we might ban hearing aids
we might ban glass eyes
we might ban hair pieces
we might ban oxygen tanks
we might ban lithium or alzheimers meds
we might ban people with overpowering body odor
we might ban wooden legs
we might ban false teeth

texassroadgumball should be careful supporting banning anything, because all these items that pertain to him would be next....

@Richenough

Thanks for changing my name to tortoise. That's the intelligent response I was looking for.

And as Clunker said, your post completely proved my point. I am very much interested in hearing both sides of the argument (as I have no personal stance on the subject at the moment) but most of the time, including yourself, those who are arguing in favor of sunglasses drown out what may be an intelligent point with name-calling and insults.

If you really want to be listened to I would suggest avoiding that type of arguing as it completely eradicates your point. Yes, I understand what you are arguing for, but I'm going to completely ignore it because you make it apparent that you are not somebody I want to converse with.

And yes, I read the other blogs. Many of the people blogging have legitimate arguments both ways. It is mainly the posts in response to those arguments (yours being on of them) that are so frighteningly unintelligent.

And by the way, a tortoise is essentially just a land turtle, both of which (along with terrapins) come from the same family. Thank you for making such a huge correction in my name as an attempt to attack me, it really hurt.

Are your comments above what you have told your dark "priest" in the "howler monkey" confessional? Does it go sort of like this?

"Forgive me father because I have been overpowered, scourged, and exposed as a jingo and a bigot by a blind, deaf, old man with a wooden leg and false teeth."

You are really making a spectacle of yourself. You know that bloggers here are laughing at your helpless thrashing about, don't you?

Terence and Clunker:

Thank you for bringing some voices of reason and attempts at civil discussion of differences of opinion to these CP blogs.

I have tried to do that for quite some time, but to no avail.
My current postings reflect a change of strategy, since I have discovered that the poster's who refuse to do so are so scarred by their particular hatreds and biases that they seem incapable of any such type of discussion.

This is the group that describes Mexican Americans as "Beaners", makes disparaging remarks about sexual prefereences, thinks that those who disagree with them are Nazis, Stalinists, socialists, and liberals.

At least one of them has come dangerously close, in my opinion, to calling our President the "N" word.

Ad hominem attack is their bread and butter strategy. Their attacks on Danie illustrate the point.

So, in thinking about the adage that "All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.", I decided to battle them in their own trenches.

They have not proved much of an adversary.

Neither do I expect to influence their corrosive howling, for hate is such an indelible mark on their souls that I believe that they will go to the grave with it.

bmpek;
I guess you didn't read a post I entered a few weeks back. It dealt with the fact that liberals #1 identifying trait is that they call names when they lose arguements. And the #1 name they call you is bigot...other include nazi, homophobe, redneck, etc...
consider it a badge of honor when you get called that by a liberal. It simply means you have won an arguement! Again, I will post the defination of a racist in 2010 America...

'anyone who wins an arguement with a liberal'

It is fairly obvious that texasTURDGOBLER has repeatedly lost all arguements, even though he constantly declares himself victorious. You notice no one else agrees with him...in fact everyone on these blogs hates him.

Isn't it time you tell us who you think he is, so we can shut him up?

The internet is madening for you, isn't it? Anonymous posters who can adopt a multitude of personnas. Shape shifters everywhere you look. They can be anyone or no one. Don't you find it appropriate to find me on these blogs? After all, poker is a game of imcomplete information. Now that's something for you to ponder while you howl at the unkind fate that has befallen you.

Just for you, I tried not to write any of those big scary words that sends you skittering to the dictionary.

'wack job' hardly scratches the surface. but you are playing into his hands by going back and forth with texasturdgurgler. an old saying comes to mind....something about letting a crust form over a pot of shit...because if you keep stirring the pot, it will keep stinking. well, texasturdgurgler is the proverbial (and probably literal too) pot of shit. just stop responding, and he will go off and attack some one else, and of course if they win an arguement, and prove him wrong (not hard to do), then he will call them a racist and bigot. and of course he will use the term 'howler monkey' and 'battle of wits'. soooo boring and sooooo un-entertaining. "hey I paid 10000$ to get into this tournament...I want some real entertainment, not warmed over kindergarten"........... (who said that?)

It's been quite fun just sitting back and watching you get eaten alive by the community here online. Curious though is your approach???

You have no friends here...Move on and find another group that will accept you. Change your name and the next time around think before you post.

Hey, Thade, I thouht that you had left us. The day will never come when the Darklord Thade and his band of "howler monkeys" can overrun mighty TRG wielding the weapon you so all fear---the power of coherent language.

I take no advice from the vanquished such as you. You showed some promise at first, but quickly reverted to tactics of the overmatched. Quite predictable. From a front runner to tilt. That's expensive.

And if it was "quite fun" watching me eviserate you on this blog, that suggests to me that you have a bit of masochism about you.

One more thing, If you wish to cry about your beatdowns given to you by me here, I suggest that you call 1-800-BAD BEAT One warning though, howling is charged at a higher rate than ordinary bad beat stories.

Some of you guys are pretty entertaining to listen to I must admit.

Just my thoughts on things but comments on peoples blogs are going to express personal opinions about stuff written in the blog is what I understand it to be. There will always be disagreement and haters. Its just part of the blog and the comments that follow.

Lee is a great poker player, this has been proven already. The person that made a comment about they didn't think he was a good poker player...that was just plain silly.

And to Lee: You write a good blog that expresses your thoughts on things well. I wouldn't worry too much if there may be controversy etc or not over things you write about, there are many great players that write blogs on here that still get ribbed ei. Hellmuth and Negreanu are 2 of the main ones I have seen after following the blogs on here for a while. Keep on doing what your doing. I myself am happy to read the blogs of great poker players in the hopes it may help my own game or life etc. and I can become a better player or gain insight.-OSJ

I think since the roadgambler adds nothing to the blogs, offers no substantial advice and is only here to call others names and berate people, Cardplayer should suspend him from posting. It is a privilege and he has abused that in every blog he posts. All I have seen him do is chase people around the blogs and call them names, that is not what the blogs are for. Obviously it is time for his meds and a diaper change.

Now, since you realize that you are unarmed in a battle of wits, you want to run to the Administrator and tell him that I object to the hateful postings of all of you?

My posts have all been reasonable to other bloggers until I have to deal with the likes of you and your band of howler monkeys. Too bad that I have to get down into the gutter to deal with the likes of you, but it is the only language that you understand.

Be my guest, write the Administrator.

Apparently sunglasses can be just as controversial and confrontational as the hottest of hot button political issues.

I think a ban is inevitable due to technological advances. Soon you won't even notice the embedded electronics and visuals displays within the glasses.
