DOYLEISM OF THE DAY: “The doors we open and close each day determine the lives we live.”

Congrats to David Williams for his win in the WPT Championship Tournament. Despite all of the criticism about the structure of the tournament, the final table was one of the strongest in years. The slow paced games and short hours seem to reward the better players. I was pulling for my pal Billy Baxter and I was excited when he was chip leader at the final table. Bad beats took over and Billy finished 5th. Still, that’s pretty good hold’em playing by a guy that has seven WSOP bracelets, all in lowball. Poker.

CA Athletic Directors Convention 2010

CA Athletic Directors Convention 2010

I had to miss the Bellagio tournament because I had to go to Reno. The California High School Athletic Directors were having their annual convention and I had agreed to speak over a year ago. Someday maybe I’ll learn to check dates before making commitments. I had a great time and met several hundred nice people. The directors surprised me with a poker tournament when I arrived, with a dozen or so Athletic Directors wearing DoylesRoom caps. Most of them had never played but we had fun. The sad part of this was that lots of these teachers, coaches, and directors didn’t know if they would have jobs next year. The bad economy has probably hit California and Nevada harder than any other states. California is bankrupt and really in trouble with no relief in sight.

Time is fast winding down on the 2010 WSOP. I’m going to play in the PokerStars cash game next week, then do my best to chill out until the series starts. I can’t make up my mind if I want to play a few selected events or make an all out run trying to win another bracelet. I feel pretty good so I may just go for it. Poker room.

I’m going to Costa Rica this weekend. There may be some big news about DoylesRoom. I always enjoy going to CR because the scenery is great and the food is good. I’m also looking forward to seeing some rain. As hard as I try to slow down, it seems the only speed I have is full ahead.

It seems everybody these days are political experts and like to talk about it, so here is my two cents about the economy. We are so far in debt that most countries, including China who we owe the most money, correctly think we may never be able to pay everybody. I know everyone says America is the greatest country but we may have crossed the line this time. As long as other countries can manufacture cars, appliances and other items cheaper than we can, there will never be enough jobs for Americans. Our government could put a huge import tax on everything to make prices equal. If our country is so great, let’s support ourselves instead of depending on other nations. The oil would be a problem, but we could be independent there also in 10 years if we would listen to T. Boone Pickens. I understand the ramifications of a huge import tax, but if it comes down to America becoming a 3rd world country, I for one would be willing to do whatever is necessary. Internet poker.

We have defeated most of the countries in wars but if another broke out tomorrow, who are our allies? Same as always, Britain, Canada, Australia, Israel and a few of the smaller countries. I just don’t believe very many Americans realize the downward spiral our nation is in. I’m in favor of helping our own nation while we can and stop trying to police the entire world. And yes, I like the things Arizona is doing despite Federal opposition. If I wasn’t so old, I would run for public office.

Have a safe trip to CR Dolly and good luck at WSOP this year. You have to get a bracelet to quiet Hellmuth.

The "things" Arizona are doing is unconstitutional, and will be overturned by the Federal govt. You can't be serious? I mean Arizona was the only state that opposed observing MLK JR day as a holiday.... I think that speaks volumes

Arizona is correct and Texas Dolly is correct in what he says. People under a ceertain age (maybe 40) just don't understand what made this country great...they have been indoctrinated in left wing sewage in schools and universities. Arizona's new law mirrors existing Fedeeral law...you know the law the Feds refuse to enforce. There is nothing unconstitutional about it. Watch out Doyle....you might get called names like racist or white supremicist. That is what the left calls you when they can't win an arguement.

Racist....a person who wins an arguement with a liberal.....

Doyle....you should run for office...I would vote and work for you...and you would win. But then again, why would you? You have already sat a tables full of people making their living out of being liars for 50 years....so I guess you have been there, done that...huh?

NYY you are clueless. The only thing unconstitutional is making the State of Arizona pay for the health care, welfare, education, criminal prosecution, etc. of illegal immigrants because the Federal Government refuses to secure its own borders.

And by the way, there were a lot of other States that didn't necessarily want to add another paid holiday to their payrolls, that doesn't make them all racist.

Bingo...very simple concept, yet it amazes me how many people who just dont get it.

How can those who aren't even citizens be protected by the constitution?

DB writes with many years of experience backing what he writes. I happen to agree with him. America is in deep crapola if things continue on the path choosen by the left. The poor and middle class will both suffer. Color won't matter, everyone bleeds red. Doyle wish you success on your bracelet hunt this summer. God speed.

Az. new immigration law will do nothing but bankrupt the state even further then it already is. Az. now spends 10% of it's budget on incarceration of law breakers this will increase to almost 20% if the 1 cent sales tax is voted down. Az. can pass a law thats says we will jail all illegal aliens for 1 yr 5 yrs whatever and it will not stop the flow. Why do these people come to America having to face horrible conditions and hardships to get here. Jobs thats why and that is why the federal gov. not a state or 5 state goverments passing these laws will make a difference. Because sanctions against employers nation wide are a necessity. Force companies to hire Americans or people who are in this country legally of course this won't happen because the folks screaming the loudest don't want a national citizens card. It is not a problem caused solely by left wing or right wing poltitions as so many seen to think. The problem is caused by a small % of wingNUTS at both ends of the spectrum. Not a simple problem to solve.

Clunker...the more you talk, the more stupid you sound. All your last post is so full of idiocy, no one can respond to it. All it is is a bunch of ill-informed nonsense, driven by your unfortunate left wing stupidity and some sort of psychobabble emotionalism. You never have read the law in AZ have you? Of course not....becuase all your type can do is name call, and form opinions based on your lack of education and guilt you feel for being white and prosperous. You should really shut up...you might hurt your brain.

Or maybe you escaped the Jonestown Kool-aid caper?

Lets try playing poker without enforcing the rules and see how that works out. I am sure it will work about as well as having a imigation policy that is not enforced.

Mr. Brunson, your lack of understanding of world economics is shocking. As we age we romanticize our younger days when everything seemed better while the memory plays tricks designed to remove the rough edges of our youth. I travel extensively and if there's a better country than America out there I sure haven't seen it. I'm pretty sure it's not Costa Rica. You'd think a man of your experience would be thankful for a country that has allowed him to become wealthy and have the freedom say stupid things(the Germans, just like Arizona, once thought certain segments of their population should carry papers too) without fear of retribution. Disappointing is the only word that comes to mind regarding your blog.

The Problem
USA has developed a credit system that gives people money w(at extortionate rates) without working for it or saving it.This has been going on for more than 50 years. It has resulted in a nation of mainly fat(65% are obese) and spoiled brats (Similar to PH)
The obsession to bolster their self esteem by being"top of the pile" and a show of material goods has generated demand for sure. But paid for with borrowed money!! To cover this up company accounts have been misrepresented and Bankers were finally exposed as the crooks they have always been.

The Solution? (part of it anyway)

Forget the "american dream" BS propaganda you have all bought into

Start saving and spend only the money you earn

Downsize in all areas

Stop trying to be a world superpower--Those days have long gone.

Modify your Financial systems so that competition still exists but it becomes a more even playing field.

Oh dear I must have been dreaming Is this what really happened or is it another online game for kids!!

This is from Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen:

I'm Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen. I want to explain SB 1070 which I voted for and was just signed by Governor Jan Brewer. Rancher Rob Krantz was murdered by the drug cartel on his ranch a month ago. I participated in a senate hearing two weeks ago on the border violence, here is just some of the highlights from those who testified.

The people who live within 60 to 80 miles of the Arizona/Mexico Border have for years been terrorized and have pleaded for help to stop the daily invasion of humans who cross their property . One Rancher testified that 300 to 1200 people a DAY come across his ranch vandalizing his property, stealing his vehicles and property, cutting down his fences, and leaving trash. In the last two years he has found 17 dead bodies and two Koran bibles.

Another rancher testified that daily drugs are brought across his ranch in a military operation. A point man with a machine gun goes in front, 1/2 mile behind are the guards fully armed, 1/2 mile behind them are the drugs, behind the drugs 1/2 mile are more guards. These people are violent and they will kill anyone who gets in the way. This was not the only rancher we heard that day that talked about the drug trains.

One man told of two illegal's who came upon his property one shot in the back and the other in the arm by the drug runners who had forced them to carry the drugs and then shot them. Daily they listen to gun fire during the night it is not safe to leave his family alone on the ranch and they can't leave the ranch for fear of nothing being left when they come back.

The border patrol is not on the border. They have set up 60 miles away with check points that do nothing to stop the invasion. They are not allowed to use force in stopping anyone who is entering. They run around chasing them, if they get their hands on them then they can take them back across the border.

Federal prisons have over 35% illegal's and 20% of Arizona prisons are filled with illegal's. In the last few years 80% of our law enforcement that have been killed or wounded have been by an illegal.

The majority of people coming now are people we need to be worried about. The ranchers told us that they have seen a change in the people coming they are not just those who are looking for work and a better life.

The Federal Government has refused for years to do anything to help the border states. We have been over run and once they are here we have the burden of funding state services that they use. Education cost have been over a billion dollars. The healthcare cost billions of dollars. Our State is broke, $3.5 billion deficit and we have many serious decisions to make. One is that we do not have the money to care for any who are not here legally. It has to stop.

The border can be secured. We have the technology we have the ability to stop this invasion. We must know who is coming and they must come in an organized manner legally so that we can assimilate them into our population and protect the sovereignty of our country. We are a nation of laws. We have a responsibility to protect our citizens and to protect the integrity of our country and the government which we live under.

I would give amnesty today to many, but here is the problem, we dare not do this until the Border is secure. It will do no good to forgive them because thousands will come behind them and we will be over run to the point that there will no longer be the United States of America but a North American Union of open borders. I ask you what form of government will we live under?

How long will it be before we will be just like Mexico or any of the other Central American or South American countries? We have already lost our language, everything must be printed in Spanish also. We have already lost our history it is no longer taught in our schools. And we have lost our borders.

The leftist media has distorted what SB 1070 will do. It is not going to set up a Nazi Germany. Are you kidding. The ACLU and the leftist courts will do everything to protect those who are here illegally, but it was an effort to try and stop illegal's from setting up businesses, and employment, and receiving state services and give the ability to local law enforcement when there is probable cause like a traffic stop to determine if they are here legally. Federal law is very clear if you are here on a visa you must have your papers on you at all times. That is the law. In Arizona all you need to show you are a legal citizen is a driver license, MVD identification card, Native American Card, or a Military ID. This is what you need to vote, get a hunting license, etc.. So nothing new has been added to this law. No one is going to be stopped walking down the street etc... The Socialist who are in power in DC are angry because we dare try and do something and that something the Socialist wants us to do is just let them come. They want the "Transformation" to continue.

Maybe it is too late to save America. Maybe we are not worthy of freedom anymore. But as an elected official I must try to do what I can to protect our Constitutional Republic. Living in America is not a right just because you can walk across the border. Being an American is a responsibility and it comes by respecting and upholding the Constitution the law of our land which says what you must do to be a citizen of this country. Freedom is not free.

roadgambler, if you don't think there will be a regime change in 2010, you are foolish. The current socialist/commie regime has nearly destroyed America since the libs took over 3 years ago and the elected the current commie as president. The American people are smarter than he thinks they are, have seen through his anti American values and will kick the libs/socialist butts out in 2010. In 2012 we may even be blessed to say goodbye to the worst president ever elected and make him a 1 term pres.

God Bless and Save America
