DOYLEISM OF THE DAY: “If you are looking back, you’re in trouble.”

Since I’ve gotten involved with Twitter, it seems I don’t update my blog as much as I used to. On Twitter it only takes a few seconds to tweet your thoughts so it’s much easier. I started on Twitter as a lark but it’s a fun thing and I’ve got 334,000 followers. I’m not sure about those numbers but I’m sure more people read my tweets than read my blogs. Anyways, I’ll attempt to keep my blogs a little more current. I did get some good news from Montana. In my last blog I wrote about my grandson’s dog getting killed by a pack of coyotes. Cash, a big lab, showed up after a week a little beat up but in pretty good shape. After he fought the coyotes off, he evidently got lost and couldn’t find his way home. My granddaughter saw him crossing the road 10 miles from home. Imagine the welcome Cash got when he went back to his house! With my wife in Hawaii because of her allergies, I’ve been hanging around the house. Between taking care of my dogs, paying bills and trying to get my desk cleaned off, I’m going nuts. I’m afraid I’m not cut out for a slow paced lifestyle. I’ve been on the go all my life and really miss the poker action. I have gotten to play 3 times since Louise left and really enjoyed it. The game in Bobby’s Room was 4-8K for years but most of today’s players want to play much smaller. So we played 4-8 hundred mixed games, exactly 10% of the old limits. We had full games with people on the waiting list. If we can keep the limits down we will have games. I just like to play so I’m ready to lower the limits. I had a nice hour long workout in the pool this afternoon. I swam 20 laps which is approximately 600 yards. That’s the best I’ve done lately, a far cry from the 100 plus laps I used to do. We have 25-30 cats without homes in our neighborhood and three of them came and sat on our fence watching me swim. I call our neighborhood Kittyville and the cats are really cut but they will cause a real problem pretty soon. I wish I could adopt some of them but my wife is very allergic to cats. I’ve called several agencies but nothing has been done. Because of the structure of the tournaments at the Bellagio, the event is really suffering. The number of entrants in the early events is amazingly low and the players are very vocal in their disapproval. The economy affects everything and the present structure is perceived to be too high. There is nothing as bad as disgruntled, financially troubled poker players. I’ve always said poker is the best barometer of the economy that you can find, so this means times are tough and things aren’t too good. After watching Obama shoot baskets at the half of the Butler- Mich St. game, I see why he screwed the health care bill up. He has been practicing his shot which, by the way, was pretty impressive. Even when I try to forget I’m a Republican, it seems Obama has had a terrible 1st term. Time will tell. My sister married Jack Hale, one of my childhood friends. Jack is two years older than me and lost a lung 30 years ago in an accident. Now he has developed a “blep” on his good lung. I had never heard of a “blep” so I googled it and found it is a blister that happens with lung problems, usually emphysema. At some point, usually in 2-3 years, it will burst and is almost always fatal. The alternative is surgery and if successful, will cause Jack to use a respirator the rest of his life. My brother-in-law decided to forego the surgery and live his life to the fullest. I wouldn’t have expected anything else from him. So all you smokers out there, throw your cigarettes away or you might have to make your choice someday. My daughter and I are going to Texas to visit with my sis and Jack this week. I’ve got lots of friends in West Texas and I’m going to have a reunion with some of them. After I moved out of the athletic dorm in college, I went to a different dormitory as a graduate student and found things were completely different. These guys really studied and made good grades and inspired me to do the same. I haven’t seen most of them since graduation, so a few of us are getting together. All of these men were successful in their chosen fields, a few of them were extremely so. For many years I was considered to be the black sheep out of the group. Now times have changed and it will be interesting to see how they feel now that poker is accepted. There is a WPT event called World Team Poker that will be played at the Golden Nugget the 19th of May. It is a $50,000 buy-in and consists of teams from different countries. Phil Hellmuth was the captain of the USA team, but he graciously deferred the captaincy to me. I will have 10 top American pros to choose from to play different games. The other countries and their captains that have registered are: Team Vietnam – Men Nguyen, Team Switzerland – Chris Bigler, Team Norway – Thor Hanson, Team Lebanon – Freddie Deeb, Team Israel – Eli Elezra, Team England – Ben Roberts, Team China – Johnny Chan, Team Australia – Jeff Lisandro and Team Korea – Kevin Song. Seems like this should be a lot of fun. -DB

I'm very happy to hear about your family finding Cash. It's amazing the punishment an animal can take and survive. I'm not a big fan of twitter but really enjoy your blog and hope you continue to update it often. Good luck at the tables.

Lee, obviously you are very uninformed about politics, I suggest you become educated before embarrassing yourself further.

Doyle, glad you have good news about Cash! Yes obama is an embarrassment and failure as President. Now he want to prevent us from using nuke to defend the USA while allowing Russia and china to expand their arsenals. He is a socialist plain and simple with radicals in his inner circle.

Have fun in TX, once a Texan always a Texan!

Lee, try to be as educate as Palin so you may be as inform as TXM.
Whoever voted for McCain who was 1 heart attack away for having Palin to be the president of the US should have their head examined.
Democrats are hopelessly divided and republicans are like cult. At least Obama is trying to fix the health care system.

alright i can't resist. Disappointments from Obama:

$860 billion stimulus-claimed would prevent unemployment from rising above 8%, hovering around 10% forever

$1 trillion for health care bill that mandates fines to people who choose not to buy something, constitutionality is questionable. Mandates plans to have services that many don't want. Will raise taxes, and raise premiums. that sounds great in this economy.

record $3.6 trillion budget.

US about to lose triple a credit rating-rest of the world recognizing we have too much debt to pay back.

CBO projects $20 trillion debt by 2020.

wants cap and trade legislation passed-severely higher energy costs for all.

has brought more partisan tone to DC than anyone while claiming to reach out and end partisanship.

so much more but you get the point i hope.

and no, almost noone's problem with him is his skin color. grow up children

This guy with the long entry above sounds suspiciously like Lee Watkinson. Lee, you have demonstrated many times in your blog that you are a looney left wing wacko liberal. You saying that anyone who is against Obama is a racist confirms that. Here is the definition of a racist in 2010 America...... 'a racist is anyone who wins an argument with a liberal'. Think about it....the liberals have no moral authority in their arguements...they are really socialist who want the governement to control our lives so that they can dictate what we eat, what we drive, what we worship, where we live, where we go to school, etc. And when they don't win an arguement, they call names...which are the usuals...'racists'...'homophobes'...'redneck'...etc. Too bad, because of the liberals OVERUSE of the term 'racist', nobody really gives a flip anymore about being called that. It is just like when, in the 1950's, McCarthy was calling everyone a communist....after a while, being called a communist really meant nothing. Communists and racists are bad people...overusing and abusing the terms actually proved counterproductive. Doyle is right about Obama...and like Clinton, he will cause his party to lose the Congress. I will be among the ones voting out the liberals in Congress this fall, and therefore cutting Obama and his destructive socialist ideas off at the knees, and at the pocketbook...

@tdt17, spelling errors aside, you're right on. But regardless of how obvious it was that people should have voted for Obama in 2008, it is very true that he's been a huge disappointment so far. Obviously he isn't as bad as Bush, but he also isn't as good as Clinton (and not even almost as good as people thought he'd be or as good as the Nobel Peace Prize claims he is).

Hey guys,

Try to get past ideological dogma and look at health care in its role in capitalism.

Capitalism has two arms: Capital(the money used to create the "engines") and Labor (the people to operate the "engines").

Anything that impairs one or the other affects the efficiency of the economic system of capitalism.

If Labor is unable to present themselves on a regular basis to opererate the "engines", then some efficiency of the arm of Capital is lost.

Case in point health care. Preventive medicine is the key to maintaining an ever present efficient Labor to operate the "engines" of Capital.

We have done this in the past, and can do it again. But to do so requires that all of us abandon our ideological dogma.

hey stopit5, is that the same CBO that the republicans tried to discredit two weeks ago during the health care debate when it projected that the health care reform bill would actually decrease the deficit? i'm just curious..lol

bmpek:

I see, just put the old, the infirm, and the people who worked for years to provide you with the benefit of living in the U.S. "outside the teepee" in the dead of winter right?

Why that seems like a fine solution. Why on earth have the people of moral responsibility not thought of that?

Maybe you should start a movement to change the first word of the Consitution to "Me" replacing "We"

bmpek:

Why do you insist that any historical reference that focuses on race is racist?

I do agree with you that end of life heroic efforts with their enormous costs are a problem.

I won't die hooked up to life support with no quality of life. And not in a hospital.

And yeah, I am old.

Venable, while not rigged certainly the card generators are set for bad beats to get the most rake out of a cash game. The only one making $$ all the time is the site so they program the card generators to make as much as possible.

Try to get past the dogma of ideology, no matter its source.

Labeling people is not helpful in our society that is rapidly self-destructing.

Perhaps you have not noticed that it is irrelevant which "tribe" politicians belong to. They are all demagogues working only in their own self-interest.

Then they send out their propagandists to enthrall the ignorant to support their improprietous conduct.

Try not to be one of them. American needs its citizens to be united against their efforts.

Please don't contribute to the propaganda and hate espousced by our professional politicians.

Texas that was very well written but completely wasted on Bmpek because he'll have to google so many words just to get their definition that the meaning of what you said will have been lost in translation. LOL

Let's face it, Lee is right! 80% of ALL people who dislike 0bama only do it because of COLOR!
It's TRUE... We all know it! But the color is RED!
Obama has embraced and is implementing the teaching of Saul Alinsky (Author:Rules for Radicals)and the Cloward-Piven Strategy to bankrupt America. (Please feel free to google)
