Poker Shades & Where To Get Them

I am not really sure why the issue of sunglasses is such a hot button, and yes I do understand that sunglasses could potentially aid someone trying to cheat, but there are so many ways to cheat that perhaps the game needs to be played naked in a bubble with electronic jammers in use.

Here is what I think wearing glasses that conceal your eyes actually do for you. Principally there are two advantages, one is the ability to watch your opponents without them knowing they are being watched and secondly it conceals your pupil/eye reaction and makes one harder to “read.”

For some players these can be huge factors, for others it makes absolutely no difference. Some players wear hooded sweatshirts and when in a big hand cover their face and put their heads down, should we ban hoods and hats? What about those players who talk nonstop in a hand, perhaps they should be muzzled?

So at the risk of some negative comments, I am going to do my best to help further the use of sunglasses in poker. While in Toronto at a poker expo a few months ago there was a poker specific glasses company, Blue Shark Optics. They have a wide range of glasses which can be custom made with your prescription, which to me is a great option. They are designed for indoor use while playing poker. They actually make it seem brighter and conceal your eyes.

For those of you interested in checking out the Blue Shark glasses for poker, here is the link. As an added bonus the company has agreed to take 10% off the price if you use coupon Oracle2010 at their online store here’s the link: http://bluesharkoptics.com/ I think you’ll find it interesting all the great players that use them.

I love it, they look like great sunglasses. Hey didn't DN wear sunglasses on his first couple of HSP appearances?

Way to use your pointless debate with DN to try and make a buck Roy. That is your name, right? I wasn't sure because I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF YOU!

The real problem with poker is all the pathetic selling out that these "poker" players are doing. All of poker is now just one big marketing campaign.

You don't believe any of these high profile self promoting pros could actually make a living playing poker do you. At least tourny poker. They need sponsors to defray the high cost of travel, eating, partying and entry fees so that when they win a big tourney once every few years they have a little for themselves. Tiger Woods earned 110 million $'s last year of which 8 million was from actually playing golf. Without sponsorship deals these guys can't make a living.

To Trent: Pros have a right, like we all do, to make a living. If they choose to endorse a product you can choose to not buy it. Get off your high horse and leave your sermons for your home game pals.

To Roy: Thank you for letting me know about Blue Shark Optics. I wear prescription glasses and it looks like these guys provide a real answer to my needs.

"I played in a cash game in California recently in which one of my opponents was wearing mirror sunglasses. Whenever he checked his holecards, I could tell if they were picture cards or small cards. I could even tell if the small cards were in a red or a black suit." -from Steve Zolotow's article in the recent cardplayer.

I assume that if you were playing next to this guy in this game Roy you would have no problem if Steve Z used this info to his advantage. And I am sure you wouldn't want to change seats so you could take advantage of the info as well. :)

JUST IGNORE DN!!!! Roy this is giving him what he wants... attention. If anyone wants to get a good laugh at DN (plus you get to see what he likes to wear when he doesnt think anyone will notice) watch the tape of the 1998 WSOP Mainevent that Scotty Nguyen takes down. You will see a skinnier Mike the Mouth and in the background is a classic. Its DN himself with a big hoop ear ring and the most "intresting" outfit ever!!! If you get a chance watch it!!! Sunglasses will never be banned as long as Hellmuth and Ferguson wear them. End of story. Watch the 1998 Mainevent!!!

and lets be honest 99% of poker games are low stakes so cheating players wearing sunglasses have less of an effect than say playing the highest stakes games

sure would like to buy a pair of these, but they dont' seem to allow online purchase. or most lines aren't available yet, such as HHoyt corkins, the ones i want.
.
yeah, negreanu is quite an idiot trying to change the rules in such a way. glasses belong in tournament poker. plus, saying this because old time poker legends "Tom Dwan and Phil Galfond say...".
.
I piss on your face negreanu. I PISS ON YOUR FACE!!!

Roy I suggest you give up your beef with DN. You have no shot.

DN is better than you, more connected than you and has more fans than you. In addition to this he seems to make more sense than you on poker related topics. Give it a rest and choose another up and coming poker player to battle with like jaka or mercier.

Roy (and all others who read this)....
I keep telling all of you why D. Negreanu is the way he is. No, he is not gay...not a crook, not a phony, not a lot of the things you all say he is.

What he is ...is a Canadian.

They are all like that. They can all be mistaken for all the negative attributes listed above, because that is the way they are. And they happen to be the most irritating bunch of bastards to play poke with. I can spot a Canadian at a poker table, just by the way they act, and they way they play. The fact that they get lucky, even for an extended period of time (Negreanu's seems to be running finally)....adds to the irritation. Also, the fact that they want to come here and run our poker games, and modify our well-established rules, is just an extension of their vast national inferiority complex. Canadians, and their country as a whole....are one vast pain in the ass, and I imagine they will continue to be so. They constantly preach how they ar better than us, etc.... ALMOST AS IF THEY WERE A REAL COUNTRY...... So there you have it...Take Negreanu for what he is....

Now you've included the Canadians in your hateful diatribe. That's both sides of the border now that you have covered as people that you don't like?

Who's next xenophobes, otherwise known as the "howler monkeys"?

Wait, before you answer, that's just a rhetorical question. (Another one of those "big words" OOOOH)

We all know who's next:

Anyone who is not white, isn't native to the U.S., isn't a redneck racist homophobe, doesn't drink KoolAid, and can spell "cat".

Be quiet now, don't all of you start howling in unison. I'll be along presently to feed you some "bananas".

Richenough...
Thanks for the shout out. Won't it be great this fall after the Lew Watkinson, and D. Negreasnu types are humbled when the great american people rise up and throw the lefties out on their ear? I can remember all the nasty garbage spewing from their mouths before the 2008 election, and the fact that Negreanu is not even a citizen who can vote mad me even more upset. They(and others on this blog who are just like them) got their wish and the socialist got elected to the White House...and our country is so much the worse for it....and the American people are getting ready to right the mistake they made by voting for these looney libtards. Can't wait until November!! By the way, tomorrow you will see an advance of this in the primary votes. Arlen Specter...a turncoat coward over 80 years old, that looks like death warmed over (eerily reminiscent of texasroadoogler), will be rejected by the party he turned to for refuge. It is good to see Americans taking charge of things, and rejecting the pompour arrogant liberal blowholes, and those who contantly defend them.....

oldeschool rallies the "howler monkey" band:

"Beer for my horses, KoolAid for my men. We ride at dawn."

Listen up, Beckians, Limbaughians, Palinsians:

The American people have almost always made changes in Congressional balances during the mid-term elections.

Of course, if there were some test of intelligence for voting, all of you would be disenfranchised.

Then there's the fact that your principal target will still occupy the bully pulpit no matter the outcome.

Hey Rich, why is it he is on the wrong side of what Americans think? Can't wait till November when we send the marxist regime a real message like we have in almost every election since the obamaone was elected.

Riche:

I have just the solution for all of you racist, bigoted, hateful "howler monkeys".

Let's reinstitute the public stocks and place all you in them for some period of time. Public humilation used to be quite effective as a means of punishment. Very little recidivism if history is to be believed.

How's that for "standing up"?

Riche:

Ah, so you can enter into a civil discussion. If your last post reveals your true position on the political and social issues, you find yourself ironically aligned with mine.

I do like to shake the "howler monkey" trees from time to time when the "nest" becomes such an easy target.

They are getting a bit boring, however.

I've already written that it is immaterial to me if players wear sunglasses. So, we can't disagree on that issue.

I am worried about you. you have just fallen through a crack it seems, because texasturdgurgler is starting to agree with you. I am sure you didn't mean for such an awful fate to befall you. it is like when people get cancer for no reason...just innocently living their lives and then...wam! some awful thing happens. i fervently hope that you recover fully from this awful travesty. maybe taking a long hot shower would help...also maybe a date with a hot chick...or maybe listening to my favorite recording of ray charles singing 'god bless america'. that usually makes even the liberals and other america hating creeps like the turdgurgler even feel slight pangs of patriotism. good luck to you my friend as you over come this monstrous evil that has surrounded you...
