Another Sunday Online & Excited for Aussie Millions

I had a decent Sunday on Full Tilt, finishing 45th in the Mulligan. I was leading in chips for a while, then flopped a set and got it in against an over pair on the flop. He hit his set on the turn to remove 2/3 of my chips. I survived for a while, and even doubled up a couple of times, but couldn’t hang on. I did have a major suck out early on when I thought a late position raiser was bluffing and after I thought he was just continuation betting, I moved in with, well absolutely nothing, and he called, and I went runner, runner 3 of a kind. Now don’t get me wrong I wanted to win that hand, in fact I want to win every hand I play, but I do feel bad when I suck out like that. I have also been regularly playing the 7 game mix on FT, which is HORSE+PLO+NLH, which I really enjoy. I think the mix keeps it interesting but the PLO is the most significant portion, resulting in the biggest pots.

I have had a few discussions lately with Jonno Pittock, who is the director of poker operations at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, about the upcoming Aussie Millions. He went over some of the highlights of the events and here they are:

• The Opening Event has a “Repechage” format. Day 1 is split into 3 flights, with Flight 1&2 open to new players, and Flight 3 open to players who have been eliminated from either of the first 2 flights. The Crown has been doing this for about 18 months in the smaller events, but this is the first time it has been on the Aussie Millions schedule. Big chance for a $1mil Prize pool in a $1,100 buy-in. FYI, I had no idea what “repechage” meant and had to look it up. Here is the Wikipedia definition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repechage
I think it’s an interesting idea.

• A range of $1k buy-in events, including NLH, P LO & HORSE

• Bounty event format, where the pro’s have a knock out bounty on them, it is similar to the Bay 101 Shooting Star

• A total of three $10k events – Main Event, PLO & HORSE

• $100k Challenge is still the world’s biggest buy-in tournament. There is plenty of interest from the business community after Hong Kong businessman David Steicke won last years event and $1.2mil

• Main Event will definitely top 800 and break records for Aussie Millions participation, and Jonno thinks with some luck it could hit 1,000.

• Three Televised Events, which is almost the same as this years WSOP
The $1mil buy-in cash game (last years heads up duel between Patrik Antonius and Durr was most watched Poker show ever on FSN.
The $100k buy-in cash game, which I am locking up a seat in.
And of course the 10k main event.

Additionally, the weather is usually excellent in January, and the Australian Open Tennis is just a short walk away at the same time. Here is the link to the schedule: http://www.aussiemillions.com/schedule/

Personally I can’t wait to head out there. That may also have something to do with me adding a honeymoon in the South Pacific onto the front end of the trip. In one of the online comments on cardplayer.com someone wrote that once I was married I wouldn’t be playing much poker or running around with Layne Flack anymore, I feel I have to respond to this; well I intend to still be playing just as much, but I am going to leave Layne home for the honeymoon, three is a crowd!

Hangin with an obnoxious drunk like Layne Flack says it all about your character.
