The 2013-14 World Series of Poker Circuit season kicked off at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT this month. Over the weekend the series’ marquee tournament, the $1,675 WSOP Circuit no-limit hold’em main event, drew 591 entries to build a prizepool of $888,568.
After three full days of play, Jason Strasser emerged victorious, taking home $186,600 and 840 POY points. Strasser was one of the more successful tournament players during the mid-2000’s online poker boom. Known as “strassa2” online, he accumulated more than $750,000 in online tournament winnings in his short career before making the decision to pursue a career in finance in New York City.
“I played a ton of poker back in my younger days.” Strasser told WSOP.com after his win. “This game has been really good to me but it hasn’t been a big part of my life for the past five years.”
The 28-year-old was down to only 10 big blinds at one point, but was able to make it to heads-up play and then overcome eventual runner-up Wes Wyvil to take home the title and his first WSOP-C gold ring. Strasser’s live tournament earnings now exceed half a million dollars as a result. Wyvill took home $115,069 for his second-place finish.
