2007 Champion: Paul Wasicka
The 2007 NBC National Heads-Up Championship packed the best parts of March Madness into one day. Play started with the Elite Eight, and, after the Final Four round, concluded with the championship match, and the crowning of the NHUC's newest $500,000 first place finisher.
2006 Champion: Ted Forrest
Ted Forrest moves all in from the button and Chris Ferguson calls. Forrest shows Kc-7d and Ferguson has Qc-Jd. The flop comes Kd-Qh-2h and Forrest stays ahead. The turn is the 4d and the river is Kh. Chris Ferguson has been eliminated.
Chris Ferguson earns $250,000 for his second place finish. Ted Forrest wins the tournament and $500,000.
2005 Champion: Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth was being congratulated by Tim Poster (co-owner of the Golden Nugget casino) when he asked for 15 bottles of Dom Perignon that he could share with the crowd. Tim Poster said, "No problem," and sure enough, the first bottles were appearing within about five minutes. Phil received his giant cardboard check for $500,000 and his small but attractive trophy. When asked how he felt, Phil said, "The money's great, but it's about the title, baby." He picked up the trophy. "I'd rather have this," he said, holding the trophy, "than this," and he pointed to the giant check.
