Eliminations came quickly this level. Marcus Collins took 13th place ($29,577).
Erica Schoenberg eliminated the next player, Ed Fernandez, when she called his all-in with 10 10. Fernandez revealed his pocket threes. The board brought the J 6 2 9 K, and Schoenberg sent Fernandez to the rail in 12th place ($33,369.) Schoenberg ended the hand with approximately $1,250,000.
Georges Djen was next to go. He raised to $110,000 from the button. The player in the big blind went all-in over the top, and Djen called with K 10. The big blind was ahead with the A K, and stayed ahead the whole way through. Djen exited in 11th place, and will receive $33,369. With his elimination the remaining ten players moved to one table. They will continue to play tonight until the final nine are set.
There are 14 players remaining and day two is just five eliminations away from being over. The most recent eliminations are as follows:
17th Place - Phillip Motsinger ($25,785)
With the flop showing J 8 6 Motsinger checks to his opponent, John Kranyak. Kranyak bets out $200,000 and Motsinger calls, pushing all in. Kranyak was holding A-K and Motsinger called with Q-J, good for top pair. The turn deflated Motsinger's hopes when the dealer put out the A. The river was a two and Motsinger was eliminated in 17th place.
16th Place - Joshua Van Duyn ($25,785)
Van Duyn was all in before the flop up against Ernie Crespo. Van Duyn had J-10 and Crespo was holding A-8. Crespo paired his eight on the flop and Van Duyn never improved, busting out in 16th place.
15th Place - Shane Stacey ($29,577)
Following a preflop raise from the chip leader, Robert Cheung, Ernie Crespo smooth called. Shane Stacey reraised all in for $200,000 and forced Cheung to fold. Crespo made the call with A-Q and Stacey had pushed with K-Q. The board came J-5-2-10-10 and Crespo's ace won him the pot and allowing him to eliminate another player at his table.
There are only 17 players left in day two of event #38, $1,500 No Limit Hold 'Em. Play has consolidated down to two tables and the next redraw will occur when there are ten players remaining.
There have been nine eliminations in the first level following the dinner break and it is apparent that these players show no sing of slowing down. The recent eliminations are as follows:
26th Place - Mitchell Hecht ($21,993)
25th Place - Karl Mahrenholz ($21,993)
Karl Mahrenholz was eliminated by Suey Wong in the following hand. Chris Bjorin raised preflop and Mahrenholz came over the top all in. Wong reraised to $250,000 and forced Bjorin out of the hand. Mahrenholz was holding A-J and Wong showed pocket aces. The flop brought a jack for Mahrenholz but the turn and the river bricked out and Mahrenholz was eliminated in 25th place.
24th Place - Fred Lavassari ($21,993)
23rd Place - Michael Perrazzo ($21,993)
22nd Place - Rodeen Talebi ($21,993)
21st Place - Burt Boutin ($21,993)
Burt Boutin raised from the button preflop and was reraised by John Kranyak from the small blind. Boutin called the bet for all of his chips and had K-9. Kranyak was holding A-10 and the lead. The flop was great for Boutin when it came K-J-6 and Kranyak looked frustrated. The turn was a nine and the river brought the queen and completed Kranyak's straight.
20th Place - Zachary Clark ($21,993)
19th Place - Morgan Machina ($21,993)
With the board showing 7 6 3 Machina pushed all in. Ed Fernandez made the call and showed Q-7 for top pair. Machina slowly turned up J-6 for middle pair and a long way to go. The turn was a ten and the river was a four, giving no help to Machina and eliminating him in 19th place.
The remaining 26 players are now on a dinner break. Play will resume in one hour and continue until the final table has been decided.
With 26 players remaining, tournament officials redrew the field down to three tables. Notables Erica Schoenberg and Burt Boutin are currently at the same table.
Recent Eliminations
31st Place - Marcel Luske ($18,581)
30th Place - Jeff Magid ($18,581)
29th Place - Jeff Kimber ($18,581)
28th Place - Darrin Haddock ($18,581)
27th Place - Rick Roberts ($21,993)
Marcel Luske was eliminated early on in this level after running into some unfortunate luck. Luske took a huge hit last level when he was all in with queens and lost to an opponent's pocket kings. Luske bet out his last $20,000 in a hand with Burt Boutin who called with A K and took down the pot with ace high.
Robert Cheung heads into dinner as the chip leader with more than $1,000,000 in chips. Check back after 10:30 p.m. to stay current with all the action and eliminations right here at CardPlayer.com.
Only 36 players remain at the final four tables of the $1,500 no-limit hold'em event. Among them are Erica Schoenberg, Marcel Luske, and Burt Boutin. Boutin took a hit when he called an opponents all-in with A-J. His opponent held pocket twos, which held up and gave him the pot. Recent big names to hit the rail include Kathy Liebert in 46th ($12,893), Eric "Rizen" Lynchin 42nd ($15,547), and Men "The Master" Nguyen in 41st ($15,547). With less than 27 players to go until the final table, action is heating up. Make sure to check back for more updates here at Cardplayer.com.
Notable Chip Counts
Event no. 40 has just come back from their second forty-plus minute break of the day while the tournament staff colored up the $500 chips. There’s only fifty players now remaining as we get ready for a long night here at the Rio. The tournament staff has decided to play down to the final table, and that means that we have to lose forty-one more players before we call it a night.
The last hour or so of actual play time has brought us tons of eliminations, and Eric Lynch was one of the lucky ones that escaped rail. Lynch moved all-in for $55,000 from the small blind and got a call from the player in the big blind. Lynch turns over 5 3 while the big blind turns over A-J. To make a short hand even shorter, Lynch flops a flush and doubles through his opponent.
Still in contention from Europe are Chris Bjorin, Jeff Kimber, Marcel Luske, Nick Goodall and Karl Mahrenholz

Players finally began Level 13 nearly forty minutes later than anticipated, but the last hour of play has brought us many eliminations, and even more interesting were the new table draws. Ninety-five players now remain in Event no. 38 after the most recent elimination of Alex Jacob in 96th place. Chris Ferguson was eliminated in 118th place and ran back to the H.O.R.S.E. event before he could even collect his prize money.
Burt Boutin drew a seat right next to Kathy Liebert who has built up a really decent stack over the past hour or so. Liebert raked a nice pot and eliminated one of her opponents when she came into a pot with an $8,000 pre-flop raise. The player in seat no. 7 calls while the player in seat no.8 moves all-in for $3,500 more. Liebert tried to complete the raise and re-raise the player in seat no.7, but after a somewhat lengthy explanation from the floor man, Liebert ended up just calling the raise followed by the player in seat no.7. The flop came K Q 9, and Liebert leads out with $10,000 for the side pot. Seat no.7 folds and Liebert goes heads-up to the turn with her opponent all-in. Liebert shows A J for the nut flush while her opponent turns over K Q for top two pair. The turn and river bring the J and the 10, no help to the player all-in who was just as quickly all-out while Liebert raked a nice pot.
Marcel Luske was busy playing the role of table captain until Men “The Master” Nguyen landed a seat across from him during a redraw. Nguyen wasted no time trying to muscle around his table mates and made a move on the short stack that ended up backfiring in “The Master’s” face. The player in seat no. 6 raises $10,000 (half of his stack) from middle position and Nguyen quickly raises him another $10,000, virtually putting him all-in. Everyone folds back to seat no.6 who goes into the tank. After a few minutes of lively deliberation, seat no. 6 decides that although he’s probably behind in the hand, he’d love to tell the boys back in Okalahoma that he got busted by “The Master”. He ends up calling all-in and turning over K 10. Nguyen flips over J 9, and the board comes 7 5 4 3 2, no help to Nguyen as the player in seat no.6, if nothing else, can tell the boys back in Okalahoma that he doubled up through ‘The Master” with king high.
Chris Bjorin got moved to a table with Nick Goodall from the UK but not long afterwards was shirted again to a table with Jeff Kimber. Bjorin has $50,000 in chips and is dwafted by Kimber's $274,000 stack. Nick Goodall has about $137,000 in chips. Luske has almost $200,000 in chips. The players were supposed to take a short fifteen minute break at the end of Level 12, but the coloring up of the $100 chips took far longer than expected. The break ended up lasting well over a half hour, so we’ll be back with more updates as they become available. Players have finally returned from break and have just entered Level 13 where the blinds have increased to $2,00-$4,000 with a $500 ante.
The Euro contingent clings on. Nick Goodall has $137,000 in chips, Chris Bjorin has $122,000. Marcel Luske seems to have stalled somewhat and has $112,000 and Jeff Kimber is flying on $220,000.

Hour One Recap
All of the 180 remaining players began the first hour of Day 2 in the money, and for 44 of them, that’s where it ended. At the end of the first hour, the field was whittled down to 136 players, of which several pros are still alive and kicking.
Chris Ferguson was having a busy day, running back and forth between both this tournament and today’s $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event. It’s not clear whether or not Ferguson was getting hit with the deck or whether he just kept pushing in an effort to get back over to the H.O.R.S.E. event that much sooner. Ferguson has shoved all-in pre-flop several times today, and the most recent came after the player in seat no.1 raised to $3,000 followed by a call from the player in seat no. 2. Ferguson shoved behind them and when everyone folded he turned over A Q just to keep them honest.
Of the few remaining pros, several of them found themselves sitting at the same table. Erica Schoenberg drew a seat at table no. 64 right across from Men “The Master” Nguyen, and it didn’t take her long to double up through her new table. The player in seat no. 8 made a pre-flop raise of $3,000 and Erica Schoenberg called behind him. Men Nguyen called from the big blind but ended up dropping out when the flop came 10 7 5. Seat no. 8 bet $4,000 and Schoenberg smooth calls behind him. The turn brought the Q and seat no. 8 bets out $7,000 only to be raised $21,000 by Schoenberg. Seat no. 8 moves all-in and Schoenberg quickly calls. Seat no. 8 turns over J 9 for the bluff/gutshot straight draw while Schoenberg shows K 8 for the flush. The river brought the 9, and Schoenberg eliminates her opponent and virtually doubles up.

Day 2 of Event # 38 is now underway as 180 players return to battle it out for their shot a bracelet. Tim Dolan is the chip leader heading into day two and returning with him are Anna Wobrewlski, Erica Schoenberg, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Marcel Luske, Eric "Rizen" Lynch, Men "The Master" Nguyen and Kathy Liebert.
Luske has around $120,000 in chips and will be a real threat, Jeff Kimber from the UK is also up with the chip leaders and Chris Bjorin from Sweden, on around $102,000, still looks tired. He's drinking coffee, rubbing his eyes and generally looking like he'd rather be in bed.
Despite Bjorin's demeanor this is sure to be an exciting event, so check back with CardPlayer.com to read all of the live updates as all the action unfolds.
