Nick Schulman Wins the WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals
Nick Schulman wins the 2005 WPT World Poker Finals at the Foxwoods Resort & Casino, winning $2,142,000, a Wampum belt (as a trophy), and a $25,500 seat into the WPT World Championship at Bellagio in the spring. Tony Licastro finishes in second place, earning $1,035,000.
It was overheard that Nick Schulman has turned down a Monday night appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman" because he doesn't want to be famous. When asked if it was "Leno or nothing," Schulman responded, "Conan. I'd go on Conan." As the youngest-ever WPT champion (21 years old), Nick Schulman represents the younger demographic of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" anyway.

Hand #88 - Tony Licastro has the button, and he folds.
Hand #89 - Nick Schulman has the button, he limps for $80,000, and Licastro checks his option. The flop comes As-Ks-8d, Licastro checks, Schulman bets $120,000, Licastro raises to $300,000, and Schulman calls. The turn card is the 2s, putting three spades on the board. In a rush, both players are all in so quickly that it's hard to tell who pushed first. (My best guess is that Licastro pushed, and Schulman immediately called.) Schulman shows 9s-6s for a flush, while Licastro shows 8h-2d for two pair. Licastro will need to improve here by catching a deuce or an eight to stay alive. The river card is -- the 5s! Tony Licastro is eliminated in second place, earning $1,035,000.

Linda Johnson poses the same question to Nick Schulman, a renowned online player with the screenname "Takeover," and he answers, "About eight thousand." Apparently, it took more than one try for him to win his entry.
