Hard to Beat a Man Who Appears on the Chips
Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi was talking to Joe Cassidy, and Mizrachi said that he should have finished the day with about $70,000 in chips, except he was on the wrong end of a bad beat against Jerry Buss. Grinder had pocket aces and got it all in against Buss's pocket queens. Buss flopped a set (of course), and Grinder finished the day with just $11,400.
Upon hearing this, Cassidy told him, "It's hard to beat a man whose face is on the chips."
(And yes, Jerry Buss does appear on some of the chips here at the Bicycle Casino.)

Dan Heimiller Collects a Blue-Faced Bounty
There was a player in today's field who was dressed entirely in blue. He wore blue clothes with a blue cape (yes, a cape), with his hair dyed blue under a blue cap, and he topped it off by painting his entire face blue. (He was sponsored by an online poker site; it's doubtful he dresses that way on his own.)
There was a $1,000 bounty for the player that knocked this "Blue Man" out of the tournament. And a few hands ago, the vultures began circling as Blue Man was down to a single chip. He survived the next hand, but it wasn't long before he was eliminated by Dan Heimiller, who collected the $1,000 and posed for a quick photo.

Day 1a Chip Leader Returns to the Scene of the Crime
Luong Nguyen Trinh, the chip leader from yesterday's field, has returned to check out the progress on today's field. He was particularly interested to see if anyone was near the $108,000 he finished with yesterday. At this point, Trinh's status as chip leader seems pretty safe.

Last Call
A poker tournament without alcohol? With another 70 minutes left in today's action, the tournament director has just announced "Last call for cocktails." The players will undoubtedly find a way to adapt, if only by ordering multiple drinks to carry them to the finish line tonight.
