Day 1A Ends
Day 1A of the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour has come to a close here in Monte Carlo and the players have bagged up their chips. Official chip counts and a recap of the days events will be coming soon. Also keep an eye out for the 'Evolution of the EPT' series in poker news, as well as Grand Final recaps from the previous three years in the next few days.
Day 1B will begin tomorrow at 1 p.m. CET (7 a.m. EDT, and 4 a.m. PDT) and Card Player will be here to bring you all the action from six and a half levels of high-stakes tournament poker.

Late Eliminations

Two members of Team PokerStars have been eliminated as day 1A comes to a close. Both Isabelle Mercier and Tuan Lam have hit the rail late in the Monte Carlo night.

Tomas Brolin Busts A Player
Former Swedish soccer star Tomas Brolin just busted a hapless player who threw his last 7,200 chips into the middle with 7-7. Brolin thought for a moment before realising his K-K was pretty good and his cowboys held up.
In other news Peter Roche has joined Bill Edler's table and Mel Judah, who had been missing from his table for a while, is back and sitting pretty on around 47,350.

Player Bio: Soren Kongsgaard
Soren Kongsgard
During season 3 of the EPT Soren Kongsgaard finished 3rd in the Grand Final in Monte Carlo and earned $812,000. That is his only EPT cash. However, the Danish player has made about $1 million playing tournament poker, and all of it has been won overseas. Kongsgaard’s first win came in 2006 when he took down the 500 Euro buy-in no-limit hold’em event during the Hold’em Series at the Aviation Club in Paris.

Three Men Down
Greg Raymer has been eliminated by Sorel Mizzi and his aces.
Peter Gould has gone but his son Josh remains with about 12,000 in chips. Bart Spijker from the Netherlands has also gone. His push with A-K on a flop which held A-J came to naught when he was called with A-J. His calls for a K were futile and he darted off injto the crowd visibly upset.

Player Bio: Isabelle Mercier

Isabelle Mercier is a rising poker star. She was born in 1975 in Quebec. She attended the University of Montreal and received her degree in law. She moved to France to practice law and continue to study, but became the poker room manager at the prestigious Aviation Club de France. Mike Sexton dubbed her “No Mercy” because of her aggressive and merciless style when she won the World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational in 2004. She has cashed two other times in the WPT. She also has five cashes in the World Series of Poker, one being a fifth-place finish in the 2006 $5,000 no-limit hold’em event. She has one EPT cash, in 2006 she finished 7th in the French Open Championship. Mercier is a member of Team PokerStars.
