SHOW DOWN

UTG+1 QJ spades = JJQ98, one pair
ME J9 hearts = JJ998, two pair, winner $280

Normally i would have bet the river but i was so scared of that straight many ways that i backed off and it turned out ok. At this micro level i guess the check is right but at higher level a good player may have come over the top on me had i shown any reservations about that straight on the flop or later cards, and had he this early in the tournament, i would have had to have folded.

Two hands later i got all in with KQ and two Qs on the board and lost to a slow playing AQ, oh well....i got it all in when i thought i had the best of it......damn, i love poker!

Thanks for reading!

Again - you limped in because you had a modest hand 9J of hearts. This keeps the big blind in the hand. I think you should raise to $40 here so you isolate the UTG+1 player. I like your bet on the flop - more aggressive.

If you had raised preflop then you would have misrepresented the strength of your hand - and your bet on the flop may have persuaded your opponent to fold.

I try to raise when entering a pot more often than limping - particularly when I have position. Raising makes the original raiser face a difficult decision - responding to your signal that you have a better hand and position.

I agree, thanks. I should have come in with a raise in position pre-flop and then kept the foot on the gas post flop. When writing the last two posts and recently reviving my poker play i thought i was playing true loose-aggressive (but that is such a scary route with high variance), i think i was actually just playing loose-moderate and was was getting busted up too much. Recently i have reverted back to my tight-aggressive in early round play and i'm doing better, winning 2 and losing 1 on average each night.

Stay tuned.....
