I went out in 12th last night. It was disappointing, but I played well, and I cant say that I made any drastic mistakes.

The night started off extremely well. In just the third hand of the night I knocked two players out. I had 10-8 off on the button, and this is one of my favorite draw hands, so I three bet pre flop. I'm called by two others, and then the flop comes 9-7-9 rainbow. I hit the nut straight, and both of the guys ahead of me throw $500 bets on the table, so now the pots coming close to 2k, so I just go ahead and push all in. I wasn't expecting a call, but they both did. They each turn over sets one of them 9-9 and the other 7-7, so needless to say I was ecstatic, but I was still sweating the next two cards. It ends up coming 10-J, and I'm now the chip leader by a huge margin in the first 10 minutes.

After this hand I keep adding to my stack, never catching great cards, but just making position plays, and pushing my stack around to win pots. I end up getting up to 15K after the first hour and half, but than after this I hit an endless run of rags. For two hours I had the blinds eat away at my stack. I was only able to win two pots at this time one was decent that kept me sitting around 17k, but by this time the blinds are 200A-400SB-800BB, so I only have 20BB left.

I than look down at K-10 of spades, and I three bet it, the blinds know are 200A-600SB-1200BB. I'm called by two others, the flop comes Qs-Ac-5s. I have a flush and str8 draw on the table, but I just check being that I'm under the gun. The bet comes to another 3600, the next guy calls , and its back to me right now there about 23k in the pot, so this is an easy call for me considering the pot odds. The next card comes 6d, so I'm pissed. If any one bets at all I'm i have to throw this away after almost putting in half of my stack of course its another 3600 the other guy calls, and I'm forced to fold. Good thing I did, because it came 5c.

I'm now at a little less than 10k in chips, and in desperate position being under 10BB. Three hands later I look down at pocket 7's and push all in with 9k , and everyone folds except for my old buddy Kent who calls with 9h-10h. I was happy at this point knowing that he doesn't have a pair and is only going to pair the board 35% of the time. The flop comes 3-c-5c-5s, so I'm feeling great, but than the turn comes 9d. FUCK!!! Its over the last card is a Q to seal my fate.

My buddy Kent is the only guy who has made me miss the final table. Last time he knocked me out when I had pocket 9's and he ends up catching two pair on the flop. I dont think I'm going to go all in anymore with him in the action. Seems like he has my number.lol

All and all like I said cant say that I really played it wrong, but I am going to wait for another cash before I move up in the stakes, and after coming so close again I know it wont be too long, because every loss is a learning experience and only motivates me to get better! I'll be back next week for the details from my next Wednesday night adventure.

I have had this problem myself - deep in a tournament and chasing a flush/stright draw, missing, and finding half my chips are gone.

I believe you must make a continuation bet on the flop. (Maybe all-in.) Why not represent that you have an ace? Remember - you three bet before the flop! If you get reraised, you can fold. If you get called then you're no worse of than if you checked/called.
I just finished reading Gus Hansen's book "Every hand Revealed." and - the light went off in my head - stay aggressive! Make the decision difficult for your opponent. By checking you lost control and were out of position.

I defiantly hear where your coming from. I checked because the woman to my left had been re-raising all in all night, and I didn't want to risk that, so my logic was if I don't giver a chance to re pop it, I'm more likely to see the next card for a decent price.

I know what you mean throw when you say stay aggressive, and I'm not usually one to call or check, but I do have a problem with getting anxious when I see over cards on the board that aren't in my hand. I know it's something I have to work, its probably the biggest flaw in my game right now truthfully.

Ya Phil Gordon "Little Green Book" helped open my eyes to aggressive betting. I just need to trust the method more.

Thank you for your advice. It will always be welcomed.

What exactly do you think 3 betting means? It sounds like you think making an open raise that is 3x the big blind is a 3 bet.

The play of the T8 was ballsy , I'd probaly limped pre, and then ship but overall I like the play openenders are good

but raising it up preflop With KTs utg with only 20 big bets or less left isn't a good position to find yourself, with over $2k dead money already that would be a good time to ship or fold

I try to make calls based on
position vs stack size(#of BBs)vs pot(pot odds)
