So I have really sucked on the blog thing lately. There are a bunch of reasons for this but most prevalently is the fact that I am starting classes again now and it is just a busy time of year for those of us who are in college, especially since I had nothing this summer that required me to get out of bed before 1pm on a regular basis.
I was in Vegas for a week with Finch and we met up with a mutual friend for his 21st and it was a good time overall. I kept it pretty tame on the going crazy front but can't say that that was a huge surprise since pretty much everyone on the trip was more laid back and just wanted to chill. Hopefully some time in the future I do go on a Hangover style, can't go into details about my trip for legal reasons party weekend in Vegas but as for this time I was content taking in the city a bit, and getting my first taste of the center of the poker Universe. Over the course of the week the center of the poker universe metaphorically kicked me in the balls repeatedly and I ended up going completely busto, losing about 4.3k through poker.
Poker was frustrating right from the start as I had decided that I would take some shots at 2-5 just because it was Vegas. All three 2-5 sessions ended with me down $600 and nothing ever turned around. I lost about 1K in tournaments and the rest in cash and 440 of my tournament losses was from a 220 re-entry tourney at Belagio. I should have made more of an effort to grind tourneys while in Vegas but it was pretty tempting to play cash 10 ft away from Bobbies room, with famous pros strutting around the room all the time. I got some stacks going in some decent tourneys, most notably a 130 Cesar's tourney and a 125 Aria daily, but they ended with a card deadstreak followed by a profitable reshove and a suck out when I got a set in vs 2 pair on the turn respectively. I ran pretty terrible all week but definitely could have played better and took to long to make some adjustments. Overall, even in low stakes I found Vegas games to be much more aggro than other games I played, especially Mississippi. The games aren't necessarily good aggressive, as I saw some hilarious spew, and people just making raises with no logical reason, unknowingly turning top pair into bluffs and stuff. I spent too much time playing the super loose aggro style that I ran train on Mississippi 1-2 games with, instead of going to a tight aggro game that just has it more often than I did. Of course in Mississippi I crushed the flops almost every time and in Vegas I felt like I was playing 2nd pair every hand.
Again I still had a good time on the trip, I love the city with its' constant atmosphere of excitement and while I was there I had what was probably the best Italian restaurant experience of my entire life. We also saw Love, which was a Circus due solie presentation of the Beatles music and it was AMAZING probably the highlight of the entire trip.
I rebounded a bit on the poker front too since the weekend that I was back I borrowed $200 form finch (despite owing him a bit already) to play in a tournament at Seabrook which I got 2nd in for 1750. I made a mistake not chopping since the guy I got headsup with was also good, but I had a small chiplead and still think I had an edge on him overall even though he won the heads-up match pretty decisively. Despite an edge and a CL I think I should have chopped just to have a bigger life-roll to play with and go through the eventual expenses of starting school again (most of which are served a pitcher at a time).
Also I am debating seeing if I can get staked for any of the WPT prelims, sattys, or possibly the main (but I doubt that'll ever happen) at Foxwoods in October, but we will see if anything comes from that. I'm not really sure how often I am going to update this because it primarily comes down to whether anything interesting happens, within poker, and whether I feel like/ have time to write it up.
