With the blinds at 2,000 and 4,000 and a 500 ante, Player A raised to 18,000 from middle position, Cody called on the button, Dozier went all-in from the big blind, Player A folded, Cody called.
Triple-Crown phenom Cody smooth called the initial raise with Big Slick on the button, anticipating the benefit of position while disguising the strength of his hand from Player A. Many players would reraise by rote in this spot, perhaps the larger than usual opening from Player A made Cody suspicious as well. Dozier submitted a textbook squeeze play with her pocket pair and stack of 19 big blinds, and once Player A folded Cody had good cause to expect his disguised strength could score an elimination and earn a nice pot. Dozier’s pair held up however, giving her a key pot which carried her into the money for 451st and $24,808. The setback cost Cody, his comfortable stack of 45 big blinds moved into a more vulnerable position of 26, and he was subsequently eliminated shy of the money.
