With the blinds at 12,000 and 24,000 and a 4,000 ante, Flack raised to 53,000 from the button, Brammer reraised to 137,000 from the small blind, Flack called. On the Flop, Brammer went all-in, Flack called and was all-in.
Brammer’s bet sizing out of the small blind was a little light, especially considering Flack’s chip position. Flack faced another 84,000 for the 238,000 pot preflop, receiving tempting 2.8 : 1 pot odds in position. While Flack was lured into committing almost 1/4th of his chip position into the pot with a dominated hand, Brammer only succeeded in building a pot while out of position into a capable opponent. Had Brammer fully appreciated Flack’s vulnerable chip position, he might have reraised to a larger amount thereby easily ending the hand preflop. Brammer used his stack to pressure his opponent on the flop instead, as he open-shove his straight draw with a semibluff into Flack. Flack enjoyed second pair and the same straight draw, quickly calling and discovering to his relief he would only need to fade an Ace to survive. Flack scored the double-up but was subsequently eliminated in 8th for $100,696, when his pocket Tens lost a coinflip to Gregory Merson’s Big Slick. Brammer went on to make the final table.
