Final table, six handed, with the blinds at 10,000 and 20,000 and a 3,000 ante, Luis Cruz raised to 41,000 from under the gun, Elky went all-in from the cutoff, Metalidi called in the small blind, Cruz folded.
Fan favorite Elky was down to just 13 big blinds at the start of this hand. He held enough fold equity to get a fold from Cruz’s marginal openings, and if called he was probably content to take the race and double up to a less stressful chip position. Unfortunately for the railbirds excited to see a superstar at another WSOP final table, Metalidi woke up with a calling hand in the blinds. Elky lost the race on the flop, drawing thin to running straight and flush salvation, and of course the two outs to his set. Elky finished in 6th for $68,738, pushing his lifetime earnings to $10.5 million, while the remaining players were grateful to Metalidi for eliminating both Elky and Andrew Lichtenberger in short order. Metalidi went on to finish runner up for $350,806.
