Final table, four handed, with the blinds at 50,000 and 100,000 and a 10,000 ante, Botond raised to 200,000 from the button, Olivier Busquet called in the small blind, Wrang called in the big blind. On the Flop, Busquet checked, Wrang checked, Botond bet 325,000, Busquet folded, Wrang raised to 850,000, Botond called. On the Turn, Wrang bet 1,100,000, Botond went all-in, Wrang called.
Botond was not looking great on the flop once Wrang submitted his checkraise, as the King or Queen could easily fall into his opponent’s range. But he was in position and he elected to absorb the raise with bottom pair. This call would have stalled many bluffs from Wrang heading into the turn, but Wrang proceeded to lead into Boton for nearly half of Botond’s remaining stack. Botond then mounted a marginal play that led to his elimination. Several factors were working against him here, his hand strength, his opponent’s line of checkraise followed by a lead out on the turn, his lack of fold equity and the fact that Wrang had him well covered. Wrang quickly called the additional 1.2m for the pot of 5.7m with his top pair and four-flush, holding off the Aces and Treys to score the elimination. Botond earned E157,000 for his 4th place finish.
