Outcome

Final table, seven-handed, with the blinds at 250,000-500,000 with a 50,000 ante, Cada raised to 1,250,000 from under the gun, Shulman reraised all in from the hijack seat, Cada called.

Analysis

Shulman and Cada were the two shortest stacks at the table at the start of this hand. Given Shulman’s patient style and decision to come over the top of an under-the-gun raise while he had nothing but an ante invested, Cada’s decision to call was questionable. Cada was more likely dominated than racing, and the loss of the hand would be devastating as he only had Shulman covered by four big blinds. A fold would have left Cada with 16 big blinds, certainly a vulnerable chip position, but still workable and far better than the stack remaining after his call. Cada picked up an open-ended straight draw on the turn, but Shulman held off his opponent’s seven outs and scored a much-needed doubled-up. Cada was crippled and appeared to be quickly headed for a seventh-place finish, while Shulman was back in the hunt after a rough start at the final table.
