Analysis

Just seven hands earlier, Lavallee enjoyed a stack of 12.9 million to Vedes' 3.5 million. Then Vedes overtook Lavalee's A-J with an A-10 that caught a 10 on the flop, with Vedes all in preflop. Subsequently, Lavallee moved in with pocket fours, with Vedes calling off with pocket fives, giving Vedes a 5.7-1 chip lead. Lavalee must have been frustrated when he moved in on this final hand with only 13 big blinds remaining in his stack. Vedes suddenly had his opponent severely out-chipped with a strong suited king and went for the knockout-blow with his call. Lavalle flopped an inside-straight draw to go along with his live outs to holecards, but the queen on the turn left him drawing thin to his gutter. Lavallee's runner-up finish earned him $795,150. Vedes followed his deep run in the 2009 _WSOP_ main event (19th) with a prestigous _WPT_ title and scored $1,218,255 for his efforts.
