Outcome
With the blinds at 10,000-20,000 with a 2,000 ante, Tepper went all in from the small blind, Boyd called in the big blind.
Analysis
Boyd knew his opponent in the small blind was quite desperate on a stack of just over six big blinds. His biggest problem was that he was also short-stacked himself, with just under 10 big blinds. Boyd's Q-10 was ahead of a random hand, and he suspected his opponent would shove with any two cards in an unopened pot. Hoping his queen high would fare well against Tepper's range, he called off the bulk of his stack once Tepper went all in. Tepper was surprisingly strong, but Boyd enjoyed live holecards. Tepper paired his kicker on the flop, leaving Boyd drawing thin and crippled. Boyd's run would end soon thereafter in 16th, for $31,805, while Tepper finished in 14th, for $39,760.
