Defending Champion, Nenad Medic is still in the field as well, and with a healthy chip stack of just under 100,000.
Notable players that would not be so lucky to advance beyond Day 1 include Chris Ferguson, Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan, Barry Greenstein and Peter Eastgage, to name a few.
With 275 total entrants in this event, just 85 players made it through the night, and they will return to the Rio at 2:00pm PDT to begin Day 2, so be sure to check back with CardPlayer.com for all of the action from this marquee event.

Big Hands:
David Singer Eliminated by Mike Kamran
Singer started this hand with 79,000; Kamran with 81,000.
David Singer raises to 4,400 from middle position and Mike Kamran raises to 11,500 from the button. Singer reraises the size of the pot (41,300) and Kamran moves all in; he barley has Singer covered. Singer calls and both players turn over their cards.
Singer: A K
Kamran: A A
Board: Q Q 3 9 7
Singer fails to improve as Kamran’s aces hold up. Mike Kamran eliminates David Singer from the tournament and brings his stack up to 160,000 this hand.
Vanessa Rousso Quadruples Up
Lee Markholt raises to 4,000 from the cutoff and gets three callers; Nam Le (button), Vanessa Rousso (small blind) and Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier (big blind).
The flop comes J 9 8 , and action folds around to Nam Le who bets 12,500. Rousso moves all in in for 16,500, Elky calls, Markholt folds and Nam Le calls.
Rousso: 10 8
Nam Le: 9 9
Elky: X – X
Rousso flops the nut straight while Nam Le flops middle set. The turn is the 7 and the river is the 4 as Vanessa Rousso all but quadruples up to 64,000 this hand.
Corkins Eliminated by Langmaan
With just about 30,000 already in the pot on a board of 10 9 2 3 , Hoyt Corkins moves all in for 30,000 on the turn.
Florian Langmaan tanks for several minutes before the clock is called. Langmaan ultimately makes the call with top pair (J 10 ) as Corkins turns over pocket aces (A A ).
The river is the 10 , giving Langmaan trips and the pot. Hoyt Corkins is eliminated from the tournament with just minutes to go before the end of the night.

Level 4 Update: Shaun Deeb Eliminated, Filippi Takes Bad Beat

Blinds: 250-500

Notable Eliminations:
Shaun Deeb, Eric Froelich, Chau Giang
Big Hands:
Elky Takes a Chunk From Nam
On a board of 4 9 2 6 , Nam Le checked and called 3300 from Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier. The river was the 6 and Le checked again.
This time Grospellier fired 7700, which was about half of Le’s remaining stack. Le tanked for a long while before mucking his hand. Le is now left with 15,300.
Cousineau Shows Hand for Food Comp
On a board reading J J 2 K Tony Cousineau bet 10,000 which was just a little less than what his opponent had left. His opponent tanked for about a minute before finally deciding he wasn’t going to risk his tournament life on this hand.
“Do you have a food comp?” said Cousineau after his opponent folded. “You get to see this hand if you give me a food comp.”
His opponent immediately went into his pocket and found one. Cousineau, a man of his word, showed the J 8 and now gets a discounted dinner.
Filippi Can’t Dodge a Gutshot
After a flop of A 10 6 , Amnon Filippi checked and his opponent bet almost all of his remaining chips. Filippi check-raised him all in and his opponent, although visibly disgusted, tossed in his chips.
Filippi turned up the A 7 and his opponent tabled the Q J , needing a K to fill a straight. Unfortunately for Filippi, the turn was the K , filling the straight and giving his opponent the pot.
Filippi is now left with 20,000.

Big Hands:
David Chiu Doubles Through Greg Raymer
Just a few moments into the level, David Chiu was all in holding A-K against the A-9 of Greg Raymer. The board bricked for both players and Chiu doubled up to 260,000. Raymer is still far and away the chip leader with 2.5 million.
Sami Kelopuro Busts to Lex Veldhuis
Lex Vedlhuis raised to 45,000 and Sami Kelopuro moved all in for his last 300,000. Veldhuis made the call and showed A J for a dominating hand against Kelopuro’s A 9 .
The board came K K 7 K 8 and Veldhuis came out on top, sending Kelopuro to the rail out of the money. Veldhuis has closed the gap on the chip leaders with 1,405,000.
Alan Sass Hits the Rail
Alan Sass jammed it in preflop with A 6 and David Pham made the call with A K . A king on the flop and a blank on the turn had Sass drawing dead. Pham now sits with a slightly healthier 420,000.
Double Elimination For David Baker
Kirill Gerasimov was short stacked and moved all in holding K 5 . Evan McNiff tried to isolate behind him holding A-8 offsuit. Unfortunately for both players, David Baker woke up with pocket queens behind them and made the call.
The flop came A J 2 giving McNiff the best hand with a pair of aces and Gerasimov the nut flush draw. Visably upset, Baker hit his slim outs on the turn when the Q hit. The river was a safe 7 and Baker took out both players.
Marco Johnson Busts to Justin Bonomo
Marco Johnson was all in holding K 10 against the A Q of Justin Bonomo. The board didn’t help Johnson and he exited from the tournament floor. Bonomo now has 2.2 million.
Nam Le Busts In a Suck, Re-Suck Situation
Nam Le got it all in on a A K 10 flop holding A J against the K 10 of Dani Stern. The turn was great for Le when the J hit, but the K on the river sent Le to the rail. Stern is now sitting with 1.25 million.

Big Hands:

Huck Seed is Eliminated
On a board of 7 5 A Q , Huck Seed checked from the small blind to Alec Torelli on the button. Torelli fired out 37,000 and Seed called. The river was the J and the action went check-check. Torelli said, “I think you got me,” and Huck turned over the 10 7 . To Torelli’s surprise he rivered Seed, and exposed J 10 for a pair of jacks. Seed was severely short stacked and moved all-in the next hand with 7 6 from the button only to be called by Greg Raymer in the small blind with K 9 . Seed failed to hit and was knocked out of Event 2 of the World Series of Poker.
Nam Le Doubles Up
Nam Le and Sorel Mizzi got it all in on the flop with Le holding the 10 7 and Mizzi holding the K Q . The board read 8 9 J , with Le holding a straight but leaving Mizzi with a lot of outs. Those outs failed to arrive on the turn and river, and Le doubled up to around 700,000.
Mike Matusow Eliminated
Mike Matusow raised to 25,000 preflop from the big blind and Keith Lehr reraised enough to put Matusow all in under the gun. Matusow made the call and they flipped up their cards:
Matusow: 7 7
Lehr: A 10
Board: Q 8 4 K A
Matusow was eliminated on the hand and Lehr moved up to 600,000.
Matthew Glantz Flops a Set
On a board of J 9 A Q 6 , Matthew Glantz fired a big river bet into Evan McNiff. McNiff mulled it over before finally calling. Glantz turned over the 9 9 for a set of nines and raked in the 500,000 chip pot. Glantz is no over 1,000,000 in chips.

Brian Townsend Eliminates Emil Patel
Emil Patel and Brian Townsend got it all-in pre-flop with Patel holding A K and Townsend holding 10 10 . The flop of 7 10 3 was perfect for Townsend, as Patel was drawing dead with no back door draws. Townsend is up to 1,500,000 in chips.
