Chu took just a few more seconds to send his chips forward, noting how his opponent had moved all-in without seeming to give it any thought. True enough, the player showed 5
3 for the open-ended straight draw, while Chu held K
J for top pair. The 10 on the turn gave the all-in player a flush possibility as well, but the 8 on the river sent the 49,000 pot Chu's way.
Paulsen Wins Monster with Cowboys
A flop of 763 gave Kai Danilo Paulsen and his opponent the help they needed. Both players sent their chips into the middle, 24,000 from Paulsen and a 22,000 call from his opponent, creating a 55,000 pot. Paulsen was banking on his KK holding up, while his opponent held the AK for the nut flush draw and an overcard. The J came on the turn and 4 fell on the river as Paulsen joined the chip leaders.
Hennette Wins Without Showdown
Sean Hennette ran the gauntlet to capture a 20,000 pot early in the level. After two limpers joined the pot for 600, Hennette raised from late position to 1,500 and earned a pair of calls. The flop came A104, and after two checks, Hennette bet 1,500, only to have the player who limped from under the gun check-raise to 3,800. Hennette called. The turn brought the 9, and the first player checked again. Hennette bet 3,000, and this time earned a call. The river brought the 9, and another check came from the player under the gun. Hennette bet another 3,000, and completed the trifecta -- a check raise, a check-call, and a check-fold.
Eights Are Wild
Brian Saltus wasn't expecting, or even wanting, a call. From the cut-off he raised all-in for 6,575, attempting to steal the blinds. The big blind woke up with AQ however, and called half his stack for the showdown. Saltus held A8, but hit a flop of 864. The turn brought the 6, then Saltus made a full house with the 8 on the river.
Klein Dodges Paint
In the first hand of the level, three players were still missing from Bill Klein's table. The odds of taking the 750 worth of antes and 1500 in blinds and one limper seemed appropiate for his 4,875 push from the cutoff with 44. The under the gun player held firm however, and called with KJ. The flop came 1072, and the Q on the turn gave his opponent open-ended possibilities as well. But a harmless 10 on the river allowed Klein to double up.
