Level 9 Update -- Gymnast Be GoneOct 02, '09 Blinds: 500-1,000 with a 100 ante Players Remaining: 135 out of 305 (Unofficial) Average Chip Count: 68,000 Notable Eliminations: Yuri Chechi Hand of the Level:
After getting sucked out on in a massive 90,000 pot, Tony Cousineau was down to his last 9,000 or so and made an all-in move with K Nonetheless, the board came K Left In The Deck Uh… He Went Where? After Cousineau’s double up, I inquired about an empty chair at the table who appeared to be blinding away his chips. De Korver and Cousineau filled in the details saying that an Italian, or was it a Frenchman, was given a one round penalty for exposing his cards about an hour before. They’d assumed he didn’t understand enough english to know that he could come back and that he was disqualified. After some amazing journalism (asking the dealer), I discovered that the no-show was none other than Italian Olympic gymnast Yuri Chechi. After speaking to the nearest Italian reporter, I learned the truth. Chechi, not wanting to stick around, simply decided that he was too tired and went to sleep, allowing his 7,000 stack to blind away. Needless to say, he was done by the end of the night. Play Ends EarlyJul 03, '07 Due to the the slow nature of the shootout event tournament staff decided to end the night at 2 a.m. instead of playing down to a final table as originally intended. The players seemed happy about this and there were plenty left as only a 13 players had been eliminated so far.Tony Cousineau seems to be playing excellent poker and is in the $50,000 chip range. Victor Ramdin is another pro that is making a nice run in the second round. Matt Matros was one of the 13 eliminated players after his K-Q failed to improve against his opponent's A-8. Other than that the pros seem to be performing well in round two. Depending on the progress made tomorrow, they might not play down to a winner tomorrow due to tonight's early ending. Player Tags: Tony Cousineau Round 2 BeginsJul 03, '07 The second round of the $1,500 Limit Hold 'Em Shootout has begun. We have eight tables and 72 players still competing for the bracelet. Some notable faces still left in the field include: Michael Mizrachi, Noah Boeken, Isabelle Mercier, Victor Ramdin, Bill Chen, Joe Tehan, and Tony Cousineau. As one would expect in a limit shootout structure, the action early in this round have been failry slow and uneventful. Stay tuned for more live updates throughout this round. Player Tags: Tony Cousineau, Michael Mizrachi, Noah Boeken, Isabelle Mercier, Joe Tehan |

Dirty RiverJul 02, '07 Jamie Gold padded his stack after laying a bad beat on John Murphy. Four players saw a 9 7 5 flop after an early position raise to $1,000. Murphy bet $3,000 and only Gold called. Murphy got his last $13,000 in after the 2 on the turn and Gold called. Murphy held 10 10 , and Gold trailed with A 9 . The river was the cruel 9 , that snatched the pot from Murphy and sent him packing. Gold is now the tournament leader with over $80,000.Earlier in the level, David Williams managed a double knockout with the worst of it. The player in Seat 1 raised under the gun to $2,200, the player on the button pushed all in with Q Q , and Williams pushed all in over the top to isolate with A K ; however Seat 1 called with K K . Williams simply rubbed his hands together saying, "I like this, Ace me dealer" Williams had to wait until the river but the board ran out 8 8 2 5 A , and Williams eliminated both players.Tony Cousineanu and Steve "MrSmokey1" Billirakis have managed to double up their short stacks in the last level. Billirakis pushed his last $7,900 in with A J and was called by K Q . The flop was lights out for Billirakis as it came 6 5 2 . The turn and river were the Q and the J , and Billirakis doubled. Cousineanu pushed his last $3,000 in the pot with K Q and was called by Bill Chen with J J . Cousineau took the lead with the Q Q 2 flop, the turn and river bricked out and Cousineau doubled up. Andrew Black, Anna Wroblewski, and David "Devilfish" Ulliott have all been eliminated in the last hour The official numbers for this event will be announced shortly Player Tags: Tony Cousineau, John Murphy, David Williams, Jamie Gold, William Chen |
