Koral was ahead with just a pair of sevens, besting Duke’s pair of fives. He also had the nut low draw so Duke needed to pair another one of her cards to at least chop the pot. Instead, the river paired the board as the Q dropped and Koral doubled up to almost 250,000. Duke was down to under 80,000 in chips.

Joe Sebok Doubles Up Again
Joe Sebok moved all in on a flop of J 10 9 with 8 7 and one player called him down with J 10 . The turn and river fell 4 A and and Sebok doubled up again. He now holds 170,000 to jumps to the top of the leader board.
Jonathan Little Eliminated by Hoyt Corkins
Jonathan Little was eliminated by the set of Hoyt Corkins when his flush draw failed to come to fruition. Corkins collected the $5,000 bounty and Little was bounced.

Big Hands:
Humberto Brenes Is Fish Food
Humberto Brenes moved all in with pocket nines on a Q-J-10 flop only to get snap called by Steve Sung with A-K for a Broadway straight. The turn and river failed to help THE CHARK! and Brenes was eliminated from the tournament.
Annie Duke Gets Runner-Runnered
Annie Duke was all in and called by Mike Matusow on a flop of K 9 6 . Duke showed A K and Matusow turned over.... Q 10 . The turn and river ran out A 4 and Matusow's flush took down Duke's two pair, eliminating her from the tournament.
Barry G Takes Out Two
Barry Greenstein has Jon Turner and Minh Ly all in and covered with the best hand. Greenstein showed pocket aces, Ly showed pocket kings and Turner was way behind with A-K. The board ran out 7 5 3 4 J and Turner and Ly were eliminated. Greenstein now has 430,000.
Antonio Esfandiari Takes a Massive Hit
Robert Mizrachi raised to 15,000 from the hijack and Antonio Esfandiari reraised to 48,000 from the cutoff. Jack Wu then moved all in from the button for 297,000. Mizrachi folded and Esfandiari made the call with A-K. Wu knocked the table and produced A-Q. His bad decision yielded a good result, however, as the flop came queen high to give him the large pot and double up. Esfandiari was left with 250,000 and a very noticeable scowl.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Hold’em
Good Start For Forrest
Erick Lindgren raised from middle position and action folded around to Ted Forrest in the big blind who made the call. The flop was J 10 10 and Forrest check-called a bet from Lindgren. The turn was the 7 . Again Forrest checked and Lindgren bet. Forrest then raised and Lindgren called. Forrest bet the 4 river and Lindgren made the call. Forrest showed down K J and took down a nice sized pot. Forrest is now just below the starting stack of 100,000. Lindgren is among the chip leaders with 200,000.
Horse Does Start With An “H”
Having been questioned about the situation by a few players, Jack Effel brought up the issue of whether the first game of each day should be hold’em or, instead, a game chosen by random draw. Effel asked for a show of hands from those who were in favor of a random game to start off each day. His request was met by only a meager show of hands, indicative more perhaps of the players ambivalence toward the situation than any real opinion. With such a lackluster show of hands, it appears that hold’em will be the game to start each of the days of this tournament. Mickey Appleman said it best, “Why complicate things?”
Omaha/8b
Fitoussi Gets Cut Out
Hasan Habib limped from early position and was joined on the flop by David Singer, Patrick Bueno, Michael Binger, and Bruno Fitoussi. The flop came A K 2 . Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, Singer and Bueno folded, Binger raised, and Fitoussi and Habib called. On the J turn, Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, Binger raised again, and Fitoussi and Habib called. The river was the 6 . Again Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, and Binger and Fitoussi called. Habib showed A 4 2 2 for the nut flush while Binger tabled 10 5 4 3 for the nut low. Fitoussi showed... nothing. He mucked his hand quietly and shuffled his remaining 40,000 in chips. Habib has a more stable 80,000, and Binger has an even better 115,000.

“I Can’t Believe I Laid It Down!”
With boards reading:
Eli Elezra: Q 10 K 2
Annie Duke: 3 8 9 6
Elezra after leading out on 5th street, checked his hand on 6th street. Duke bet and Elezra went into the tank. After about 90 seconds of thinking, he flipped his upcards over and the conceded the pot to Duke. Apparently Elezra wasn’t too crushed by the lost pot, as he joked, “I can’t believe I laid that down. Two fours!” Elezra has about 85,000. Even with that pot Duke finds herself with only 30,000 in chips.
Stud/8b
Kaplan and Corkins Split Galfond’s Chips
Corkins: 7 4 5 2
Kaplan: J Q 10 4
Galfond: A K 6 8
Hoyt Corkins completed with the 7 up, Gabe Kaplan called with the J , Phil Galfond raised with an A , and the two others called. Galfond led into his two elder statesmen on 4th street and was called by both. 5th street and 6th street shared the same action: Galfond checked, Corkins bet, and Kaplan and Galfond both called. Corkins bet 7th street and was raised by Kaplan, this put Galfond in a difficult position and he was forced to lay down his hand. A bit overeager, Kaplan flipped over his hand before Corkins made his decision. Corkins saw his opponent’s J J T for a full house and made the call, showing A 4 3 for a wheel. Corkins took down half of the pot, but was unlucky not to scoop it. After the hand, Corkins had 45,000, Kaplan 85,000, and Galfond 95,000.

Huck Seed
Big Hands and Storylines:
Huck Seed Eliminated
Huck Seed, on a precariously short stack, raised from the button and the big blind called. Seed bet the A 6 4 flop and his opponent called. Seed got the last of his money in on the Q turn and the two showed their cards:
Seed: A A K 4
Opponent: K 7 5 2
Seed had a set of aces but his opponent was freerolling for a scoop with a made low and an open-ended straight draw. The river was the 3 , giving Seed’s opponent the nut low and a 7-high straight. Seed slowly slid out of his chair and exited the room, but not before tossing in a thought, “That was a good flop for you.”
“Don’t Let Matusow Win Another Pot”
That quote comes from none other than 2008 World Series bracelet winner... Mike Matusow? Clearly concerned about the tournament chances of his tablemates, Matusow was kind enough to give his peers a word of advice, but could they successfully follow it? We found out only seconds after Matusow’s word of caution:
Danny Smith raised from early position and Mr. Matusow himself 3-bet from the button. Smith called and the two of them saw a flop. A 9 7 rolled out and Smith check-called Matusow’s bet. The action was the same on the Q turn, then both players checked the 4 on the river. “Three aces,” said Matusow. His opponent mucked his hand and Matusow’s A A 9 2 scooped the pot.
After the pot Matusow had another tip, this one perhaps more relevant to the dealer: “Don’t let Matusow pick up the ace-ace-deuce every hand.”
“The Mouth”, once down to only 20,000, is now up to 110,000.
Evdakov Eliminates Annie Duke
Ram Vaswani raised under-the-gun to 8,000, Nikolay Evdakov called from middle position, and Annie Duke called from the button. Both blinds folded, and the flop came down J 10 9 . Vaswani checked, Evdakov bet, Duke raised, leaving herself only 1,000 behind, and both Vaswani and Evdakov called. On the A turn, Vaswani checked again, Evdakov bet, Duke called all-in for her final thousand, and Vaswani called. The river was the J and Vaswani folded to a bet from Evdakov. The Russian showed A Q Q J for a full house, enough to win the pot and dismiss Duke. Evdakov is now up to 110,000, though still far short of Vaswani’s 180,000.

Big Hands:
Tough Love for Elizabeth
Tom Love and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson called Shannon Elizabeth's all in bet on a flop of A 9 3 and Ferguson kept firing on the 7 turn and then both players checked the J river. Love showed A-9-5-2 for two pair and the 7-low. Ferguson showed A-7-6-4 and couldn't beat either of Love's hands. Elizabeth showed 10-7-3-2 and was eliminated from the tournament.
Lawson Gone to Monster
Ted Lawson led out 2,500 on a Q 8 5 flop and was called by Gabe Kaplan and Brent Carter. On the 2 turn, Carter bet 5,000 and Gaplan and Lawson called. The river was the 2 and Carter bet 5,000 again and was called by both players.
Carter confidently showed A 3 K 2 for the nut flush and 8-low. Kaplan showed A 3 8 7 for the same 8-low and Lawson mucked his hand and was eliminated. Carter took 3/4 of the pot and has around 45,000.
Booth Climbs the Ranks
Mel Judah bet 2,500 into a flop of K Q 7 and Brad Booth called. The turn was the A , Judah checked and Booth fired 5,000. Judah mucked and Booth continues to accumulate chips, nearing 123,000.
Too Late For Duke
Annie Duke bet 2,500 on a flop of J 7 4 and was called by her opponent. She bet 5,000 when the A came on the turn and was again called. The K came on the river and Duke check-called her opponent. Her opponent showed A 9 3 2 and Duke mucked her hand. A split second later she said, "Wait! Wait! Pick it up!" but it was too late and her hand was considered dead. She said she may have had a better hand than she thought.
Same Hands Lose to Slightly Better One
Chau Giang bet 2,500 and was called on a A Q 10 flop by the players in seat 4 and seat 7. All three players checked the J turn and Q river and showed down their hands. Both Giang and seat 4 showed A-7 as the best cards they could muster from their hands, and seat 7 showed A-9 to take narrowly take the pot.

Big Hands:
Gabe Kaplan Struggling to Stay Alive
On a board of Q J 6 6 5 , Gabe Kaplan faced a bet from his opponent and deliberated before throwing his cards into the muck and giving up on a pot worth over 12,000 in chips. “I flopped two pair,” the player told Kaplan as he mucked his cards face down and dragged the pot. Kaplan finished the hand with less than 15,000 in chips.
Chau Giang and Bill Gazes Split a Pot
Chau Giang Checked to Bill Gazes on a board of A J 3 2 , and Gazes thought pensively before checking behind. The Q river was dealt, prompting Giang to bet. Gazes made the call, and Giang turned over his A 10 3 2 for a ten-high flush. Gazes turned over K K 8 5 for a playable low, and the two players split the pot.
Mickey Appleman Trying to Improve His Short Stack
In a hand on table 15 in the orange section of the Amazon Room, the action folded to Mickey Appleman on the button. Appleman called, as did Annie Duke in the small blind. Johnny Chan checked his big blind option and the three players saw a flop of A 6 2 . Duke and Chan checked to Appleman, who bet. Duke folded, but Chan called and the two players saw the 10 on the turn. Chan checked and Appleman checked behind. The A on the river was dealt, and again Chan checked. Appleman bet and Chan called. Appleman turned over K K 9 8 for two pair, aces and kings. Chan turned over 10 8 7 2 for a playable low, and the pot was split.

Big Hands:
Johnny “World” Hennigan Stays Alive
Alexander Kostritsyn checked a flop of A K 10 and John Hennigan moved all in for his last 200 in chips. Lee Watkinson called and Kostritsyn called. The 5 on the turn brought checks from the two active players. The 9 on the river brought the same action, and Hennigan turned over Q J 8 7 for the nut straight. Hennigan’s straight was good for the whole pot as no low was possible.
Jeff Madsen Calls on the River, Disappoints Opponent
On a board of A J 9 4 3 , a player bet into Jeff Madsen. After deliberating momentarily, Madsen made the call. “I was hoping you’d fold. I’ve got a pair of jacks,” the opponent replied. Madsen happily turned over 7 5 4 3 and scooped the pot. Madsen finished the level with around 30,000 in chips.
Daniel Negreanu Wins a Sixth of the Pot
On a flop of Q 7 3 , Daniel Negreanu raised after one opponent checked and another opponent bet. The first player called and the original bettor reraised. Daniel capped and all players called. The 4 on the turn caused the first opponent to make a bet, which was called by the other opponent and raised by Negreanu. All players called and the 3 was dealt on the river. The first opponent led out again, and Negreanu and the other player called. The following hands were shown down:
Negreanu: A 5 2 2
First opponent: A Q 10 2
Second opponent: A 9 3 2
Trip threes were good for the high, and all players held the same low. The pot was first chopped directly in hald and the high hand was paid. The remaining half was divided into three equal portions and awarded to all three players. If a spade had fallen on the river, Negreanu would have won two-thirds of the pot.
