Phil Collins Eliminated in Fifth Place ($2,269,599)

Phil Collins had a lot of support at the 2011 World Series of Poker main event final table, but in the end, it wasn’t enough to propel him to Tuesday’s final three.

Collins was one of the most active players at the table and found some success by varying his play with a lot of limps, but once he got five-handed, his all-in move was snapped off by Pius Heinz, who held pocket nines.

Collins had some live cards, holding the A 7, but couldn’t connect hard enough with a board reading 6 5 4 9 7.

The 26-year-old pro did however take home a consolation prize of $2,269,599, which was enough to more than double his career winnings.

We are just about two hours away from the start of the 2011 World Series of Poker main event final table here at the Penn and Teller Theatre at the Rio. Here’s a look at the crew cleaning up the ESPN final table stage.

You’ll notice that the stage is nearly identical to the stage used this summer in the Amazon Room. The only difference is that the bleachers have been spread to the sides to form a half circle. Take a look.

November Nine Set!

After eight days of play and nearly 72 hours of cards, the 2011 World Series of Poker has officially reached the November Nine.

Leading the way into the four-month hiatus is the Czech Republic’s Martin Staszko, who has a slight advantage over Ireland’s Eoghan O’Dea.

The final table will be a truly international affair, with seven different countries represented. The Americans will be the most prevelent at the Penn and Teller Theatre at the Rio, having three players in attendance. Matt Giannetti, Phil Collins and Ben Lamb also reside in third, fourth and fifth in the standings after some late night jostling.

Giannetti was handcuffed early on during the final table bubble, but picked up pocket jacks twice to give him a comfortable chip count entering November.

Barring a spectacular performance at the WSOP Europe series from Phil Hellmuth, Lamb has nearly locked up the WSOP Player of the Year honors. He has now earned nearly $2 million this summer and is in a great position to triple or quadruple that amount.

Badih Bounahra was at one point the shortest stack at the table, but he was able to pick up a big hand to double through, becoming the first player to represent Belize at the final table in WSOP history.

Germany’s Pius Heinz is certainly happy to have survived the bubble, especially after getting all in with K-J against a dominating A-K earlier in the day. Heinz would up making a straight to double, which was enough for him to advance.

The rest of the final table is rounded out by Ukraine’s Anton Makievskyi and the U.K.’s Sam Holden. Both players will have their work cut out for them in November, returning with less than 30 big blinds.

The unfortunate final table bubble boy was John Hewitt, who made a questionable call against Bounahra that saw his stacked crippled. He eventually lost a coinflip to O’Dea to see his Main Event run come to an end.

By surviving until November, Eoghan and his father, Donnacha O’Dea, have become the first father and son pair to make the WSOP Main Event final table. Donnacha finished ninth in 1991 and sixth in 1983.

The board read A 7 2 4 10 when one player bet 1,300 before NBA player Paul Pierce. He made the call and flipped over A 9, which was enough to top the K J of his opponent. Pierce held 47,000 after the hand.

Mark Newhouse on the Rise

On a board that read K Q J 2 Mark Newhouse bet 14,000 and Massimiliano Martinez made the call. The river fell 9 and Newhouse then moved all in for 33,000. Martinez made the call and he had Newhouse covered.

Newhouse turned over Q Q and he doubled up on the hand just before the dinner break to 88,000. Martinez fell to 55,000 after the hand.

He busted in 29th place, completing a free-fall from more than a million to out of the tournament. A few professionals that are trying to hold on with short stacks include Darryll Fish, Charlie Hook, and Allen Kessler.

Phil Collins moved all in for 258,000 from the cutoff with a board of 109724 sitting on the table and Jonathan Little made the call from the big blind. Collins flipped over KJ for a failed bluff and Little showed down Q9.

Ethan Foulkes Eliminated in 28th Place ($13,000)

Ethan Foulke was all in preflop, except for the single 1,000 chip sitting on top of his hole cards. Tyler Cornell had made the call and mistakenly flipped over his hole cards (AK, because he thought his opponent was all in.

The flop fell K96 and Foulke checked to Cornell who bet 1,000 with his flopped top pair. Foulke made the call and flipped over J10 for a flush draw. The turn and river fell A and 9.

Cornell won the strange hand to grow his stack to 920,000 and his opponent was Foulkes was eliminated in 27th place, taking home $13,000.

Chip Movers and Shakers

Phil Collins has fallen from the top 10 during this level that was very tough on the professionals remaining in play. Many have busted out of the tournament and those that remain are in the lower half of the chip counts. Allen Kessler, David Sands, Collins, Peter Rho, Charlie Hook, and Jonathan Little are still alive and kicking, but they all hold the chip average or less. Jared Jaffee currently leads the way with 805,000.

Phil Collins Doubles Up Thanks to Raymond Dolan

Phil Collins raised to 3,000 from middle position Raymond Dolan called from the hi-jack and both blinds jumped in as well. The flop was dealt J76 and Dolan opened the action with a 5,400 bet. The blinds both fold and Collins check-raised all-in for 23,500. Dolan made the call and they flipped over their cards:

Makhija Runs Into Bullets

Amit Makhija raised to 600 from the cutoff before the flop. Seat 9 called from the button and the player in seat 1 reraised to 1,700 from the small blind. Action came back to Makhija, who made the call. Seat 9 got out of the way and the flop came down J106. Seat 1 led out with 3,000 and Makhija made the call. The turn paired the board as the J hit the felt. Seat 1 thought for a long time before deciding to move all in for 10,200. Makhija took his own time to think, but he eventually called and showed 99. Seat 1 turned over AA and Makhija was in trouble. He needed to hit a two-outer to take the pot, but the 8 fell on the river and Makhija trasported almost half of his stack to seat 1. He started the hand with almost 27,000 in chips and ended it with just 12,000.

Le Gets Pushed Out

Nam Le raised to 650 before the flop from middle position. The player in seat 4 made the call from the hijack position and everyone else folded. The flop came down 10105 and Le fired a continuation bet of 800. Seat 4 immediately made his move as he pushed all in for 5,025 more. Le went in the tank as camera crews rushed over to the table. Le looked at his hand a couple of times and finally mucked. He was down to 28,000.

Cloutier Sends His Opponent's Ladies into the Muck

T.J. Cloutier raised to 600 from middle position preflop and seat 4 made the call from the button. The player in seat 6 also called from the big blind and everyone saw a flop of 1087. Cloutier fired 1,000 into the pot of 1,800 and the button called. The player in the big blind got out of the way and the 4 came on the turn. Cloutier kept up his aggression as he fired 3,000 into the pot. The button turned over his hand, QQ, and released it into the muck. "I'll let you win this hand," he told Cloutier. "Oh, you had me beat," Cloutier says as he showed the 10. Regardless, Cloutier raked in the pot and improved to 14,000 in chips.

Quack, Quack, Quack

In a limped four-way pot, the flop came J22. Action checked to the player in seat 6 who fired 600. John D'Agostino made the call and the other players folded. The turn brought the 5 and both players checked. When the 4 fell on the river, D'Agostino bet 1,500 and his opponent made the call. D'Agostino showed K2 for a set of ducks. His opponent mucked and D'Agostino's stack grew to about 40,000.

Medic Doubles Up

Nenad Medic raised to 600 preflop and was called by the player in the big blind. The flop came down 832. Medic bet 1,000 after the big blind checked. The big biind then check-raised to 2,500. Medic repopped to 6,000 and the big blind put Medic all in. Medic called and showed 83, ahead of his opponent's 99. The turn was the Q and the river was the 5 and Medic doubled up to around 24,000.

We Told You Not to Play With Sam Farha

A player in middle position raised to 700 and Farha made the call. The player on the button jumped in as well and the flop came down Q86. The initial bettor checked, as did Farha. The button then fired 1,100 into the pot. The initial bettor folded and Farha raised to 4,100. The button looked at Farha, frowned, nodded, looked at his hand and threw it into the muck. Farha was up to 45,000.

Chad Batista Hammered Down By Big Slick

After Batista raised to 550 preflop, another player pushed all in for 3,000. Batista made the call and showed QJ. His opponent turned over big slick, AK and hit the flop of K74. Batista needed running cards to win the pot, but the K on the turn sealed the deal and Batista was drawing dead. The meaningless river was the 6 and Batista dropped to around 9,000 in chips.

Collins Picked Off

Collins was involved in a hand where he bet 1,000 on a board of K746. He was called by the player in seat 2. When the J hit on the river, Collins fired 3,500 and seat 2 went into the tank. He eventually said that he couldn't put Collins on a real hand so he made the call. Collins showed 65 for a pair of sixes. Seat 2 showed K8 for top pair to rake in the pot. After the loss, Collins had around 20,000.

Teltscher Teaches Tiffany A Lesson

Brit Mark Teltscher was a match for Tiffany Michelle's aggression when he called every bet on ever street including 4,000 on the river. The board read A-A-K-7-2 and Teltscher went into the tank finally calling. Michelle looked a little downbeat. "You got an Ace?" she asked and went to muck her cards. Teltscher flipped over A-3 for trip aces and Michelle's bluff had gone badly awry. After the hand she was down to 34,000 and the Englishman was up to 26,000.

He Who Raises Last Wins The Pot... Here Anyway

Philip "USCPhildo" Collins now has over 20,000 in chips. Sitting in the big blind, Collins saw the player on the button raise to 1,100, then the player in the small blind reraise to 3,500. Collins sat still for a moment, then put his entire stack in - about 16,000 worth. The button folded fast but the small blind sighed and rolled her eyes as she thought over her decision. She mucked and asked Collins if he had it. He shrugged and added around 5,000 chips to his stack uncontested, putting him around 20,000.

Micon Picks Up Kings, Eliminates Opponent

Bryan "The Icon" Micon called a short stack all in and showed down K-K versus his opponent's 10-10. The board ran A-9-8-4-9 and Micon eliminated the player and saw his stack surpass 23,000.

Deeb Fighting Through the Field

As the field as been cut down from 2,447 to just 740 players, many pros were lost along the way. But Freddy Deeb is one who has quietly been making his way through the field. Deeb raised to 950 from under the gun and got no callers, chipping up to around 12,000.

Noah "fourUhaters" Schwartz raised to 1,200 from late position and was called by the small blind. The flop came 1042, the small blind checked and Schwartz bet out 1,600. The small blind folded and Schwartz took the pot. Schwartz had around 16,000 after the hand.
