Amarillo Adds a Few Chips
After four players saw a flop of Q97 and a player in middle position bet 325 and was called by Amarillo “Slim” Preston on the button. The turn was the 2 and Preston bet 800 after his opponent checked.

While You are Waiting
If you are waiting, check out a recent episode of Under the Gun that featured Brandon Cantu.
Four players saw a flop of Q97 and everybody checked to the player on the button who bet 75 and was called by Gavin Smith. The turn card was the 6 and Smith checked again.
The button bet 200 and Smith called one more time and saw the 10 hit the river. Smith checked and button took a minute or so to bet 400. Smith, visibly displeased at the bet, eventually let his hand hit the muck.
Gavin Smith Eliminated
Gavin Smith got the rest of his short stack in on a flop of 1099 with the 108 and was called by an opponent with the A10. Smith failed to draw out and was eliminated early on Day 1A.
Bad Board, but Devo’s Kings Hold
After Brock Parker limped under the gun, Bryan Devonshire raised to 100 on the button. The player in the small blind called, as did Parker. All three players checked it down as the board ran out A32J10.
Devonshire tabled the KK, which was good for the pot.
Tommy Vedes Loses Some Chips

Lex Veldhuis was in the big blind with about 2,800 when the button raised to 75. The small blind called and Veldhuis raised to 325. The button made a quick call and the small blind folded. The flop came 942 and Veldhuis continuation bet 425. The button made the call. The 5 hit the turn and this time Veldhuis bet 850 and the button took awhile before calling. The river brought the A and Veldhuis took some time to consider before moving all in for 1,625. The button tanked for a few minutes and finally made the call for his tournament life. Veldhuis tabled A5 for two pair. His opponent mucked and Veldhuis raked in the large pot. He is at 5,700 after the hand.

One Big-Blind Hand
Over at Brock Parker and Bryan Devonshire’s table (Green 197), a hand was played with just one big blind. The tournament staff was called over to look at the problem in the early stages of the 2010 World Series of Poker.
Tough Table Draws and Notable Entrants
Prior to his elimination, poker pros Gavin Smith, Kara Scott, and Allen Kessler were sitting at the same table among a sea of unknowns. At the table right next door sits a member of the Card Player Family — Allyn Jaffrey Shulman. Allyn’s husband and Card Player Publisher, Barry Shulman, is also in the field. Some other tough draws include a table with Joe Bartholdi, David Plastik, Jamie Rosen, and Soheil Shamseddin. As well as a table that includes Tommy Vedes, Andy Black, Tom Marchese and Brandon Cantu. For such a big field, some unknowns got a pretty unlucky table draw.
Lex Veldhuis Talks with Adam and Diego
Poker pro Lex Veldhuis discusses the 2009 WSOP TV coverage that built a ton of buzz around his aggressive game, his lighthearted rivalry with Eli Elezra and how he took advantage of being on TV in a recent episode of ‘The Scoop’ brought to you by Full Tilt Poker.
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman has busted out of the tournament in the money on day 2. We will add her to the chip count listing of eliminations when the tournament staff releases her place.

Big Hands:
Cat Fight at Table 38
Erica Schoenberg raised to 525 from early position. The player in the big blind made the call. The flop was 1074 and Schoenberg bet 700. The big blind made the call. The turn was the K and Schoenberg bet another 1,500. The big blind called and the river was the 8. Once again, the big blind checked to Schoenberg who bet again, this time 2,500. The big blind says "make it 5,000" as she throws in an orange chip. Schoenberg, along with the rest of the table, didn't hear the raise and assumed it was a call. Schoenberg showed K10 for top two pair. The woman in the big blind turned her hand over, thinking Schoenberg had called and turned over 65 for a straight.
After realizing that Schoenberg never completed the raise, the big blind started to get vocal, all but demanding the dealer make Schoenberg call the raise. The floor was called over and sort of dismissed the whole thing because there were mixed signals. Half the table acknoledging they heard the raise and the other half admitting that they did not hear the raise. The floor dismissed the whole fiasco, considering that both hands were already exposed and that Schoenberg would not call with a losing hand.
Brown Cracks Aces, Doubles Up
Chad Brown raised to 500 preflop and the player in the big blind repopped to 2,200. Brown made the call and the flop came down J62. The big blind bet 4,500 and Brown made the call. The turn brought the 2 and the big blind moved all in. Brown snap called and turned over JJ for a full house on the turn. The big blind showed AA for two pair and needed to hit one of the remaining aces to knock Brown out. The river was the K, however, and Brown doubled to about 40,000 in chips.
Barry Shulman Rakes In a Pot
On a flop of K98, Barry Shulman bet 500 and the player in the small blind raised to 1,500 and Shulman called. The turn was the 7 and both players checked. The river was the J and the small blind bet 1,000. Shulman raised to 3,200 and the small blind angrily mucked his cards, exposing the 8 face up. Shulman raked the pot and his stack was around 33,000.
Don't Lie to Arieh
Josh Arieh raised to 700 before the flop and had one opponent make the call. The flop came down K1010 and both players checked. The turn was the 6 and Arieh checked again. His opponent bet 1,100 and Arieh made the call. The river brought the 10 and Arieh checked again. His opponent bet out another 1,500 and Arieh stuck around. His opponent showed Q9 for a busted straight draw while Arieh turned over a couple of ladies, QQ. Arieh scooped up the pot and was around 18,000 after the hand.
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman is Eliminated
On a board that read 8846, Shulman moved all in for about 6,000. Her opponent made the call and turned over 108 for a flopped set. Shulman was apparently drawing dead as she threw her hand in the muck before the J fell on the river.
Elezra Turned Away
Eli Elezra called a preflop raise to 600 by one opponent. Both players saw a flop of K410. Elezra called his opponent's bet of 1,000 and the turn brought the J. Elezra's opponent moved all in for about 8,000 and Elezra called all in for about 4,000. Elezra showed KQ for top pair, but his opponent improved to two pair on the turn as he showed KJ. The river was the 6 and Elezra was out.

Eliminations: Tom Dwan, John Gale, David Benyamine, Dave Ulliott, Alec Torelli, Marco Johnson, David Pham, James Mackey Andrew Barta Eliminated by Tuan Lam
Heads-up and on a board of Q877, a short stacked Andrew Barta got it all in with top pair (AQ) against Tuan Lam's full house (88). Barta needed to spike a queen on the river to stay alive, but the 10 hit the board, and just as quickly Barta hit the rail.
Fish Out Of Water
Dave "Devil Fish" Ulliott moved all in with 99. His opponent in seat 7 held QQ and Ulliott was at risk. The flop came A410, giving Ulliott hopes for a backdoor flush. The turn killed those possibilities when the 3 hit the felt. Ulliott needed to hit a two-outer to stay alive, but the Q fell on the river, giving seat 7 a set of ladies and knocking Ulliott out of the main event.
Shulman Has Kings Cracked
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman raised to 600 from late position and she had one caller, the big blind. The flop was Q62 and the big blind checked to Shulman, who bet 1,400. The big blind called Shulman's bet and the turn was the 10. Once again, the big blind checked to Shulman who, this time, bet 4,000. The big blind called and the river was A. Both players checked and Shulman showed down KK. It was not good enough as her opponent showed AQ. After Shulman had her kings cracked on the river, she was down to 9,500 in chips.
Torelli Gone
Cardplayer blogger Alec Torelli was involved in his final hand on a final AQ7. The player in the cutoff bet 1,000 on the flop and Torelli raised to 2,550 from the button. The cutoff called and the turn was the 10. The cutoff bet 3,500 and Torelli moved in for 9,000 more. The cutoff called and both players turned over their cards. Torelli showed A7 for two pair, but the cutoff showed KJ for a broadway straight. The river was the 6 and Torelli failed to fill up as he made his way to the rail.
Ladies Love Raymond Too
Ray Romano raised to 600 from late position. The small blind raised to 2,200 and Romano called. The flop came down KQ3. The small blind fired 3,000 and Romano went into the tank. After several minutes of deliberation, Romano called the clock on himself. He waited until the last second and then he moved all in for 28,000. The small blind folded AK and Romano gave his opponent a courtesy flash, showing QQ. Romano was at 38,000 after the hand.
Jason Alexander limped into a pot from late position and the player in the cutoff raised to 400. Action folded back around to Alexander who made the call. The flop came KQJ, and both players checked. The turn was the 10, and Alexander fired 500 into the pot. The player in the cutoff folded his hand and Alexander raked the pot.
Eric Froehlich Caught Lying
With plenty of money in the pot on a board of A75J5, Eric Froehlich fired out a 3,300 bet on the river. His opponent in seat 4 tanked for a few minutes before making the call. Froehlich instantly threw his cards into the muck, conceding the hand as a confused seat 4 raked the pot. There was a little banter over whether or not seat 4 had to show his hand considering that Froehlich mucked, but in the end seat 4 briefly flashed his cards before the floor person could get there to make an official ruling.
Wasicka With An Early Pot
On a board reading 8829, Paul Wasicka bet 600 and his opponent in seat 8 called. The river was the A and both players decided to check. Wasicka then showed down 66 for two pair and his opponent threw his hand in the muck. Wasicka took a nice sized pot and was up around 24,000.
Galfond Moved Off His Hand
After a flop came down 863, the player in seat 1 bet 450. Phil Galfond raised to 1,175 and his opponent repopped it for 3,000 more. Galfond went in the tank and decided to lay his hand down. He was down to around 19,000 after the hand.
The Girl Next Door
In a huge field like this one, it is rare to look around and find a familiar face. But that is not the case for David Benyamine. He is sitting in seat 1 at table 39 in the orange section of the Amazon Room. One table over at table 38, his fiance Erica Schoenberg was sitting in seat 2. The same is true for Barry Shulman over in the blue section as his wife Allyn Jaffrey Shulman is sitting one table over.

Allyn Jaffrey Shulman Off to a Good Start
The player in seat 1 called the big blind, which is where Shulman resided. She checked her option and the flop came QJ7. Shulman led out with 50 and her opponent made the call. She fired 100 into the pot after the Q landed on the turn. Her opponent mucked his hand and Shulman was off on the right foot.
Omaha-8
No Mercy for Haxton
Picking up the action on the river, Isaac Haxton bet 100 on a board that read 51021010. Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier made the call. "I suppose you can beat Q-J," Haxton said as he showed his QJ43. Mercier tabled 3322 and scooped an early pot.
Razz
Picking up the action on 4th street, Mercier fired a bet and Haxton made the call, along with the player in seat 2. Mercier did the same on 5th street and Haxton had enough punishment and mucked his hand, but seat 2 insisted on staying in the hand. The 5 on 6th street provoked another bet and seat 2 finally had enough. Mercier took another pot and was around 6,000 after the hand.
Let's Get Hammered!
Daniel Negreanu is having fun. He is using his Borat voice at his table during hands. But apparently, he's not having enough fun. He got up from his chair and announced to the world that he would like to get plastered tonight. He called Chris Reslock and told him his idea. Reslock said he would like to join Negreanu. "Kid Poker" sat down briefly to look at his hand, then he got up again and asked a pretty little photographer a simple question. "Hey, do you feel like getting drunk?" A chorus of laughter ensued as the young woman was taken by surprise. "I fee like getting drunk," Negreanu said. "Right now!" But "Kid Poker" is very picky on his alcohol. A player at a neighboring table offered to buy Negreanu a shot, to which he replied, "No. I don't do shots."

Tilly Crushing Her Table, Takes Early Chip Lead
Halfway through the second level of play, Jennifer Tilly's stack had increased from 6,000 to 32,000. After a new player came to the table, he took one look at her massive chip stack and said, "So that's why there are so many empty seats at the table."
In one hand, Tilly bet out 500 on a flop of Q109 and the player in seat 5 reraised to 1,500. Tilly repopped it to 4,000 and seat 5 moved all in for nearly 6,000 more. Tilly, sporting a big stack already, thought for a minute and asked, "You got a set?" She eventually called and her opponent showed QJ for top pair and an open-ended straight draw. Tilly was ahead with Q10 for two pair. The turn came 3 and the river came 2, and Tilly emptied the table even more. After the hand she was among the tournament chip leaders with 32,000.
You Need Luck Against Singer
Also at Tilly's table, Seat 3 raised to 350 preflop and David Singer reraised to 1,200. After some thought, seat 3 went all in for 1,600 more. Singer called and showed 88. Seat 3 had gone all in with just K8 and was in bad shape. However, as needed when playing against David Singer, seat 3 got lucky with a board of 764510, giving both players the straight to split the pot.
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman Lets Go On Big Pot
On a 4-way flop of 864, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman bet 250, seat 2 folded, seat 4 raised to 650 total. John Phan was also in the hand but mucked his cards. Shulman made the call and was heads up against the player in seat 4. The turn was the 9 and seat 4 bet 1,025 and Shulman called. The river was the 6 and seat 4 fired out 2,100. Shulman finally gave up and mucked her hand. She was back to her starting stack of 6,000 after the hand.
He's the Boss, Man
Action was folded around to "Big Bossman" Barry Shulman on the button, who raised to 225. The small blind folded and the big blind called. The flop was Q93, and the big blind checked. Shulman bet 300. The big blind made the call and the turn came 4. The big blind checked and "Big Bossman" nudged a solitary yellow 1,000 chip into the pot, inducing a fold from his flacid opponent.
Alvarado Tangles With Ng
J.C. Alvarado raised to 225 from middle position and Evelyn Ng called from the big blind. The flop was KJ8 and both players checked. The turn was the 2 and Ng bet 275. Alvarado raised to about 800 and Ng quickly mucked.
Ng dropped to 7,000 while Alvarado improved to over 7,500.
The Bulldozer at Work
On a board of K63J, Hevad Khan led out for 1,050 and his opponent moved all in. Khan called instantly, showing KJ. His opponent had AK and failed to improve on the river 4. The player was eliminated and Khan's stack grew to around 12,000.

Big Hands:
Madsen Crippled Early
With 6,000 in starting chips, Jeff Madsen bet out 4,500 on a board of KQ8J7. Seat 1 called and quickly and Madsen turned over 106 for a 10-high flush. However, seat 1 showed K9 for a king-high flush and Madsen was left crippled with just 400 chips left behind.
The Mouth is off and Yapping
On a board of AKJ2Q, the player in seat 6 bet out 2,100 and was called by Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. Seat 6 showed K10 for a rivered straight and Matusow showed A10, also for a rivered straight. Because Matusow was never behind in the hand, he turned to his neighbor and began to tell him how seat 6 misplayed the hand and got lucky.
"For sure I had nothing," he said sarcastically, talking about how his opponent gave him no credit on the flop. Bruno Fitoussi just joined Matusow's table and congratulated Matusow on his bracelet win. Matusow claimed he's basically been sleeping since winning.
Shulmans Off to Good Starts
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman called a raise of 150 from the small blind and the flop came 963. Shulman bet out 300 on the flop and the original raiser folded. "OK, one card," Shulman said as she flashed the 9.
Later, Shulman raised to 150 and the big blind called. The flop was AQQ and Shulman bet out 250. The big blind called and the 4 came on the turn. She bet 600 and was called again. The 8 fell on the river and both players checked. Shulman showed A8 and said, "I don't think my ace is any good." She was right, and her opponent turned AQ for a flopped full house. She was still above average chip stack, with 6,600 after the hand.
Following that hand, she was talking to John Phan, seated to her right, about the bracelet she received from Barry for their recent anniversary.
Barry Takes a Pot
The player in seat 2 raised to 150 and Barry Shulman called from the cutoff. The flop came 998 and both players checked. The turn brought the 4. Seat 2 bet 225 and Shulman called. The river was the A and seat 2 checked. Shulman shuffled a yellow 1,000 chip in his hand, thinking about whether to bet or not, eventually checking and showing A3. Seat 2 mucked and Shulman was at 5,600.
Fricke
Fricke Shows a Busted Draw
The player in seat 9 raised to 150 from early position and Jimmy Fricke called from the button. Both players checked the flop of J74. The turn brought the 6 and his opponent led out 300. Fricke called and the river brought the 9. His opponent bet 400 and Fricke raised to 1,100. His opponent called and showed AJ. Fricke showed A10 for a busted flush draw.
Bjorin Caught on a Bluff
Chris Bjorin checked a flop of KJ8. The button bet 250 and Bjorin made the call. The turn was the 5 and both players checked. The river was the K and Bjorin bet 800. The button called.
"No pair," Bjorin said sheepishly, and the button player turned over QJ for the winner.

On a flop of 853, Minh Ly bet the pot (600) and just as seat 9 was about to fold, the floor person came over and told the dealer that the table would be breaking after the hand. Seat 9 made a rash decision to shove all in for 1,550 instead of taking his short stack to a new table. Peter Gould also followed that same logic calling all in for 1,100. Minh Ly made the call and had both players covered.
Minh Ly: Q882
Gould: AQ72
Seat 9: Q764
Minh Ly flopped a set of eights and seat 9 had made an open-ended straght draw. Gould was drawing dead. The turn was the 9 and the river was the 3, filling Ly and eliminating both Peter Gould and seat 9 in the same hand. The table broke immediately after the hand and Ly took an extra 3,000 or so with him to his new seat.
On the last hand of the level before a 20-minute break, the flop came K88. Giang checked and Jamie Robbins bet pot for 26,000. Giang then check-raised all-in, meaning another 22,000 went into the pot. Robbins tanked, and then finally announced call. He held 9-8-7-6 for trips, while Giang had made his move holding A-K-Q-10 for top pair top kicker. The turn bricked and the river ace gave Giang two pair, but still only good for second place. Giang was eliminated in 34th place.
Stanley Steaming
Two big hands have knocked Stanley Statkiewicz Jr. down to just 28,000 in chips. The first was a showdown with Chau Giang. The flop came AJ10 with Statkiewicz holding Q-9-8-7 for the straight wrap. Giang had flopped a set of aces. The Q came on the turn and Giang committed his final 14,500 in chips. The board paired with the Q on the river and Giang filled.
Statkiewicz then went up against Eric Rosenman. Rosenman raised pre-flop and Statkiewicz called to see the flop come Q95. Rosenman used the chance to move all-in for 11,000 and Statkiewicz called, showing two pair. Rosenman had pushed with AKJJ. The 4 on the turn gave Rosenman a flush draw, but it was the J for the rivered set that shipped him the chips.
Shulman Places 41st
Jesper Hougaard raised from the cutoff to 5100 and Shulman pushed all-in from the small blind for about 12,000. Hougaard called and showed QJ109. Shulman held AKJ6. Neither player had spades as the flop came AKQ, but the straight was enough for Hougaard when it held through the river.
Gill Takes a Hit
Tournament chip leader Vanessa Selbst called from the big blind when Carter Gill raised to 4500 preflop. The flop came KQ9 and both players checked, concerned of the straight possibility. The turn was the 2 and again both players checked. The river brought the A and Selbst checked to Gill who bet 8000. A non-believer, Selbst then raised to 31,500. Gill made the call and Selbst showed AKKQ, having flopped top set. Gill showed JJ and mucked his hand. The call was for just shy of half of his chip stack which has fallen to 34,000.

Giang Busts Shulman
Barry Shulman was in the big blind and checked his option after three other players, including Chau Giang, called 800. The flop came 1092. The player who was in the small blind checked and Shulman bet the pot, which was 3,200 total. The player to his left folded and the action was to Giang. He called and the small blind folded, leaving two players to see the turn. The Q arrived on the turn and Shulman looked at his cards, trying to decipher what he had. He announced "pot" and shoved 9,600 into the middle. Giang raised all in and Shulman made the call and both players showed their hands.
Shulman: JJ85
Giang: KKJ5
Shulman made a queen high straight, but it was the sucker's end as Giang turned a king high straight. The river was the K and Shulman was sent to the rail. Giang was around 60,000 in chips and added more later as he busted another opponent at his table.
Morgan Doubles Up, Devil Fish Does Too
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman bet the pot preflop and Jordan Morgan called. The flop was J92 and Shulman bet 7,200. Jordan Morgan moved all in and Shulman asked for a count. It was 17,000 more for her to call and she did. The hands were as follows:
Shulman: AAJ7
Morgan: QJ94
Morgan flopped ahead, hitting top two pair and cracking Shuman's aces early. The turn was the 7, giving Shulman a lesser two pair and she needed help. The river paired the board when the 9 hit. Unfortunately for Shulman, it filled up Morgan with nines full of jacks and he doubled up to around 50,000.
Dave "Devil Fish" Ulliot moved all in on the river against Chau Giang and was called. He showed 5-6 in his hand, giving him a straight to the eight and earning himself a double up to around 9,000 in chips.
Selbst Bulldozing Everyone
Before the flop, the action folded around to the small blind who completed the bet to 800. Vanessa Selbst was in the big blind and raised to 2,000. The player in the small blind called and the two saw a flop. It came A76. The small blind checked and Selbst bet 3,000. Her opponent folded and Selbst added to her chip lead. She was at 131,000 in chips.
Nam Le Chops It Up
On a board showing 37AK6, Nam Le fired a bet and his opponent in seat 2 moved all in. Le made the call and the players turned up their hands.
Le: AJ54
Seat 2: 5432
Both players had a straight to the seven and they chopped the pot, leaving Nam Le with around 40,000.

Shulman Sidesteps a Showdown
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman was under the gun and one of three players to see the flop come J104. The small blind bet 4800 and the big blind raised all-in for another 8500. Shulman easily had both players covered, but wasn't ready to commit to the hand and let it go. The small blind called and showed A1097 for the nut flush draw. The big blind held QJ109 for top two pair and open-ended straight. That hand held up after the 9 hit the turn and 2 came on the river. Shulman later said she folded the nut straight.
Liebert Still Alive
Kathy Liebert was on the button and had Carter Gill raise to 600 in front of her. Liebert made the reraise for another 2500 and Gill called. The flop came Q62 and Liebert went all-in for her remaining 5500 in chips. Gill folded and Liebert now has just over 10,000 in chips.
Gill Continues to Roll
Carter Gill is on the button and as one of the tournament chip leaders, has the chips to call a raise to 825. The big blind then moves all-in with a reraise to 3125. The initial raiser folds while Gill makes the call holding KJ94. The big blind is all-in holding KKQ6. The flop came 653, but the 9 on the turn gave Gill some outs, and he connected when the 9 hit on the river. Gill has over 70,000 in chips.
Corkins Picks Up Pot
Hoyt Corkins was in the big blind and one of four players to see the flop come A93. Corkins and two others checked and the button led out for 800. Corkins put in a check-raise to 3200 and took down the pot.
Later in the level, Corkins had been moved to a table that included Paul Magriel. From the big blind, Corkins watched as the player in the cut-off position raised to 1350. After considerable deliberation, Corkins put in a reraise to 4000 and he took down the pot.
Scotty Nguyen, Devilfish Step Aside
Both prominent players were seated at the same table until just before the break. Ulliott made the 300 call from early position, the cut-off limped, and Nguyen folded in the small blind. Big blind checked to see a flop come Q52. The big blind and Ulliott checked, the button bet 675, and the big blind check-raised all-in. Ulliott and the cut-off both folded to the move.

Big Hands: No Perfect 10 for Elizabeth
Movie star Shannon Elizabeth was playing just the second hand dealt at her table to begin the tournament. From the small blind, she was one of four players in for 175 preflop. The flop came 885 and all four players checked. The turn brought the 10 and Elizabeth led out for 400. The big blind called while the other two players folded. The K came on the river and Elizabeth bet 800, atr which point the big blind raised all-in. Elizabeth called and showed 8-5 for a flopped full house. Seat 5 bet 300 and Lee called. The 6 paired the board on the turn and Lee bet out 500, enough to take down the pot. Katja Thater Crushed in First Round
On a board of 1085, 2007 bracelet winner Katja Thater got it all in against a short-stacked opponent. He flipped over A742 for the nut flush, and Thater turned over QQ92 for a lesser flush. Katja still had ways of winning the pot via the J for a queen-high straight flush and running cards for a full house. The turn and river failed to deliver, and Thater was left with less than 1,000 in chips.
Phil Gordon Check-Raised, Gives Up on Pot
In a multi-way limped pot, Phil Gordon made a bet of 200 into a flop of Q54. After all other opponents folded, the player on Gordon's right check-raised him an additional 1,000. Gordon deliberated but released his hand, leaving him with 2,100 in chips.
