Big Hands:
Cat Fight at Table 38
Erica Schoenberg raised to 525 from early position. The player in the big blind made the call. The flop was 10 7 4 and Schoenberg bet 700. The big blind made the call. The turn was the K and Schoenberg bet another 1,500. The big blind called and the river was the 8 . Once again, the big blind checked to Schoenberg who bet again, this time 2,500. The big blind says "make it 5,000" as she throws in an orange chip. Schoenberg, along with the rest of the table, didn't hear the raise and assumed it was a call. Schoenberg showed K 10 for top two pair. The woman in the big blind turned her hand over, thinking Schoenberg had called and turned over 6 5 for a straight.
After realizing that Schoenberg never completed the raise, the big blind started to get vocal, all but demanding the dealer make Schoenberg call the raise. The floor was called over and sort of dismissed the whole thing because there were mixed signals. Half the table acknoledging they heard the raise and the other half admitting that they did not hear the raise. The floor dismissed the whole fiasco, considering that both hands were already exposed and that Schoenberg would not call with a losing hand.
Brown Cracks Aces, Doubles Up
Chad Brown raised to 500 preflop and the player in the big blind repopped to 2,200. Brown made the call and the flop came down J 6 2 . The big blind bet 4,500 and Brown made the call. The turn brought the 2 and the big blind moved all in. Brown snap called and turned over J J for a full house on the turn. The big blind showed A A for two pair and needed to hit one of the remaining aces to knock Brown out. The river was the K , however, and Brown doubled to about 40,000 in chips.
Barry Shulman Rakes In a Pot
On a flop of K 9 8 , Barry Shulman bet 500 and the player in the small blind raised to 1,500 and Shulman called. The turn was the 7 and both players checked. The river was the J and the small blind bet 1,000. Shulman raised to 3,200 and the small blind angrily mucked his cards, exposing the 8 face up. Shulman raked the pot and his stack was around 33,000.
Don't Lie to Arieh
Josh Arieh raised to 700 before the flop and had one opponent make the call. The flop came down K 10 10 and both players checked. The turn was the 6 and Arieh checked again. His opponent bet 1,100 and Arieh made the call. The river brought the 10 and Arieh checked again. His opponent bet out another 1,500 and Arieh stuck around. His opponent showed Q 9 for a busted straight draw while Arieh turned over a couple of ladies, Q Q . Arieh scooped up the pot and was around 18,000 after the hand.
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman is Eliminated
On a board that read 8 8 4 6 , Shulman moved all in for about 6,000. Her opponent made the call and turned over 10 8 for a flopped set. Shulman was apparently drawing dead as she threw her hand in the muck before the J fell on the river.
Elezra Turned Away
Eli Elezra called a preflop raise to 600 by one opponent. Both players saw a flop of K 4 10 . Elezra called his opponent's bet of 1,000 and the turn brought the J . Elezra's opponent moved all in for about 8,000 and Elezra called all in for about 4,000. Elezra showed K Q for top pair, but his opponent improved to two pair on the turn as he showed K J . The river was the 6 and Elezra was out.

Andrew Barta Eliminated by Tuan Lam
Heads-up and on a board of Q 8 7 7 , a short stacked Andrew Barta got it all in with top pair (A Q ) against Tuan Lam's full house (8 8 ). Barta needed to spike a queen on the river to stay alive, but the 10 hit the board, and just as quickly Barta hit the rail.
Fish Out Of Water
Dave "Devil Fish" Ulliott moved all in with 9 9 . His opponent in seat 7 held Q Q and Ulliott was at risk. The flop came A 4 10 , giving Ulliott hopes for a backdoor flush. The turn killed those possibilities when the 3 hit the felt. Ulliott needed to hit a two-outer to stay alive, but the Q fell on the river, giving seat 7 a set of ladies and knocking Ulliott out of the main event.
Shulman Has Kings Cracked
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman raised to 600 from late position and she had one caller, the big blind. The flop was Q 6 2 and the big blind checked to Shulman, who bet 1,400. The big blind called Shulman's bet and the turn was the 10 . Once again, the big blind checked to Shulman who, this time, bet 4,000. The big blind called and the river was A . Both players checked and Shulman showed down K K . It was not good enough as her opponent showed A Q . After Shulman had her kings cracked on the river, she was down to 9,500 in chips.
Torelli Gone
Cardplayer blogger Alec Torelli was involved in his final hand on a final A Q 7 . The player in the cutoff bet 1,000 on the flop and Torelli raised to 2,550 from the button. The cutoff called and the turn was the 10 . The cutoff bet 3,500 and Torelli moved in for 9,000 more. The cutoff called and both players turned over their cards. Torelli showed A 7 for two pair, but the cutoff showed K J for a broadway straight. The river was the 6 and Torelli failed to fill up as he made his way to the rail.
Ladies Love Raymond Too
Ray Romano raised to 600 from late position. The small blind raised to 2,200 and Romano called. The flop came down K Q 3 . The small blind fired 3,000 and Romano went into the tank. After several minutes of deliberation, Romano called the clock on himself. He waited until the last second and then he moved all in for 28,000. The small blind folded A K and Romano gave his opponent a courtesy flash, showing Q Q . Romano was at 38,000 after the hand.

$10,000 Main Event - The Early Going
Jul 03, '08
Blinds/Antes: 50-100
Big Hands:
Jason Alexander on Broadway?
Jason Alexander limped into a pot from late position and the player in the cutoff raised to 400. Action folded back around to Alexander who made the call. The flop came K Q J , and both players checked. The turn was the 10 , and Alexander fired 500 into the pot. The player in the cutoff folded his hand and Alexander raked the pot.
Eric Froehlich Caught Lying
With plenty of money in the pot on a board of A 7 5 J 5 , Eric Froehlich fired out a 3,300 bet on the river. His opponent in seat 4 tanked for a few minutes before making the call. Froehlich instantly threw his cards into the muck, conceding the hand as a confused seat 4 raked the pot. There was a little banter over whether or not seat 4 had to show his hand considering that Froehlich mucked, but in the end seat 4 briefly flashed his cards before the floor person could get there to make an official ruling.
Wasicka With An Early Pot
On a board reading 8 8 2 9 , Paul Wasicka bet 600 and his opponent in seat 8 called. The river was the A and both players decided to check. Wasicka then showed down 6 6 for two pair and his opponent threw his hand in the muck. Wasicka took a nice sized pot and was up around 24,000.
Galfond Moved Off His Hand
After a flop came down 8 6 3 , the player in seat 1 bet 450. Phil Galfond raised to 1,175 and his opponent repopped it for 3,000 more. Galfond went in the tank and decided to lay his hand down. He was down to around 19,000 after the hand.
The Girl Next Door
In a huge field like this one, it is rare to look around and find a familiar face. But that is not the case for David Benyamine. He is sitting in seat 1 at table 39 in the orange section of the Amazon Room. One table over at table 38, his fiance Erica Schoenberg was sitting in seat 2. The same is true for Barry Shulman over in the blue section as his wife Allyn Jaffrey Shulman is sitting one table over.

Allyn Jaffrey Shulman Off to a Good Start
The player in seat 1 called the big blind, which is where Shulman resided. She checked her option and the flop came Q J 7 . Shulman led out with 50 and her opponent made the call. She fired 100 into the pot after the Q landed on the turn. Her opponent mucked his hand and Shulman was off on the right foot.
Omaha-8
No Mercy for Haxton
Picking up the action on the river, Isaac Haxton bet 100 on a board that read 5 10 2 10 10 . Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier made the call. "I suppose you can beat Q-J," Haxton said as he showed his Q J 4 3 . Mercier tabled 3 3 2 2 and scooped an early pot.
Razz
I Said No Mercy!
Mercier: 7 4 2 5 (3 -x-x)
Haxton: 6 2 7 muck
Seat 2: 8 4 K 3 muck
Picking up the action on 4th street, Mercier fired a bet and Haxton made the call, along with the player in seat 2. Mercier did the same on 5th street and Haxton had enough punishment and mucked his hand, but seat 2 insisted on staying in the hand. The 5 on 6th street provoked another bet and seat 2 finally had enough. Mercier took another pot and was around 6,000 after the hand.
Let's Get Hammered!
Daniel Negreanu is having fun. He is using his Borat voice at his table during hands. But apparently, he's not having enough fun. He got up from his chair and announced to the world that he would like to get plastered tonight. He called Chris Reslock and told him his idea. Reslock said he would like to join Negreanu. "Kid Poker" sat down briefly to look at his hand, then he got up again and asked a pretty little photographer a simple question. "Hey, do you feel like getting drunk?" A chorus of laughter ensued as the young woman was taken by surprise. "I fee like getting drunk," Negreanu said. "Right now!" But "Kid Poker" is very picky on his alcohol. A player at a neighboring table offered to buy Negreanu a shot, to which he replied, "No. I don't do shots."

Tilly Crushing Her Table, Takes Early Chip Lead
Halfway through the second level of play, Jennifer Tilly's stack had increased from 6,000 to 32,000. After a new player came to the table, he took one look at her massive chip stack and said, "So that's why there are so many empty seats at the table."
In one hand, Tilly bet out 500 on a flop of Q 10 9 and the player in seat 5 reraised to 1,500. Tilly repopped it to 4,000 and seat 5 moved all in for nearly 6,000 more. Tilly, sporting a big stack already, thought for a minute and asked, "You got a set?" She eventually called and her opponent showed Q J for top pair and an open-ended straight draw. Tilly was ahead with Q 10 for two pair. The turn came 3 and the river came 2 , and Tilly emptied the table even more. After the hand she was among the tournament chip leaders with 32,000.
You Need Luck Against Singer
Also at Tilly's table, Seat 3 raised to 350 preflop and David Singer reraised to 1,200. After some thought, seat 3 went all in for 1,600 more. Singer called and showed 8 8 . Seat 3 had gone all in with just K 8 and was in bad shape. However, as needed when playing against David Singer, seat 3 got lucky with a board of 7 6 4 5 10 , giving both players the straight to split the pot.
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman Lets Go On Big Pot
On a 4-way flop of 8 6 4 , Allyn Jaffrey Shulman bet 250, seat 2 folded, seat 4 raised to 650 total. John Phan was also in the hand but mucked his cards. Shulman made the call and was heads up against the player in seat 4. The turn was the 9 and seat 4 bet 1,025 and Shulman called. The river was the 6 and seat 4 fired out 2,100. Shulman finally gave up and mucked her hand. She was back to her starting stack of 6,000 after the hand.
He's the Boss, Man
Action was folded around to "Big Bossman" Barry Shulman on the button, who raised to 225. The small blind folded and the big blind called. The flop was Q 9 3 , and the big blind checked. Shulman bet 300. The big blind made the call and the turn came 4 . The big blind checked and "Big Bossman" nudged a solitary yellow 1,000 chip into the pot, inducing a fold from his flacid opponent.
Alvarado Tangles With Ng
J.C. Alvarado raised to 225 from middle position and Evelyn Ng called from the big blind. The flop was K J 8 and both players checked. The turn was the 2 and Ng bet 275. Alvarado raised to about 800 and Ng quickly mucked.
Ng dropped to 7,000 while Alvarado improved to over 7,500.
The Bulldozer at Work
On a board of K 6 3 J , Hevad Khan led out for 1,050 and his opponent moved all in. Khan called instantly, showing K J . His opponent had A K and failed to improve on the river 4 . The player was eliminated and Khan's stack grew to around 12,000.

Madsen Crippled Early
With 6,000 in starting chips, Jeff Madsen bet out 4,500 on a board of K Q 8 J 7 . Seat 1 called and quickly and Madsen turned over 10 6 for a 10-high flush. However, seat 1 showed K 9 for a king-high flush and Madsen was left crippled with just 400 chips left behind.
The Mouth is off and Yapping
On a board of A K J 2 Q , the player in seat 6 bet out 2,100 and was called by Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. Seat 6 showed K 10 for a rivered straight and Matusow showed A 10 , also for a rivered straight. Because Matusow was never behind in the hand, he turned to his neighbor and began to tell him how seat 6 misplayed the hand and got lucky.
"For sure I had nothing," he said sarcastically, talking about how his opponent gave him no credit on the flop.
Bruno Fitoussi just joined Matusow's table and congratulated Matusow on his bracelet win. Matusow claimed he's basically been sleeping since winning.
Shulmans Off to Good Starts
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman called a raise of 150 from the small blind and the flop came 9 6 3 . Shulman bet out 300 on the flop and the original raiser folded. "OK, one card," Shulman said as she flashed the 9 .
Later, Shulman raised to 150 and the big blind called. The flop was A Q Q and Shulman bet out 250. The big blind called and the 4 came on the turn. She bet 600 and was called again. The 8 fell on the river and both players checked. Shulman showed A 8 and said, "I don't think my ace is any good." She was right, and her opponent turned A Q for a flopped full house. She was still above average chip stack, with 6,600 after the hand.
Following that hand, she was talking to John Phan, seated to her right, about the bracelet she received from Barry for their recent anniversary.
Barry Takes a Pot
The player in seat 2 raised to 150 and Barry Shulman called from the cutoff. The flop came 9 9 8 and both players checked. The turn brought the 4 . Seat 2 bet 225 and Shulman called. The river was the A and seat 2 checked. Shulman shuffled a yellow 1,000 chip in his hand, thinking about whether to bet or not, eventually checking and showing A 3 . Seat 2 mucked and Shulman was at 5,600.
Fricke
Fricke Shows a Busted Draw
The player in seat 9 raised to 150 from early position and Jimmy Fricke called from the button. Both players checked the flop of J 7 4 . The turn brought the 6 and his opponent led out 300. Fricke called and the river brought the 9 . His opponent bet 400 and Fricke raised to 1,100. His opponent called and showed A J . Fricke showed A 10 for a busted flush draw.
Bjorin Caught on a Bluff
Chris Bjorin checked a flop of K J 8 . The button bet 250 and Bjorin made the call. The turn was the 5 and both players checked. The river was the K and Bjorin bet 800. The button called.
"No pair," Bjorin said sheepishly, and the button player turned over Q J for the winner.

Vanessa Rousso raised to 425 before the flop and and Danny Fuchs smooth called. The big blind reraised the pot and both Rousso and Fuchs re-potted until all three of them were all in. Fuchs had the big blind covered and while Rousso had them both covered.
Rousso: J J
Fuchs: K K

Rousso flopped top set and led to the river where Fuchs sucked out with the case king, trippling up and eliminating one opponent.
Scott Fischman Eliminated by Andy Bloch
Scott Fischman got it all in with pocket queens against Andy Bloch's pocket tens. Bloch had him covered. The board came K-Q-J-9 in some combination, giving Fischman top set and Bloch the straight to the king. Bloch sucked out and sent Fischman packing early in Level 3.
PLO
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman Eliminated
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman raised to 550 before the flop and the player in seat 1 raised to 2,000. Seat 2 made the call and Shulman called all in for 1,375 more. The flop came J 8 4 , and seat 1 moved all in for (4,500 approx.). Seat 2 folded while seat 1 took the side pot. Shulman and seat 1 turned over their cards for the main pot.
Shulman: A A K 9
Seat 1: A A 8 6
Shulman and seat 1 were looking at a chopped pot, both with the overpair on the flop, but the 6 on the turn gave seat 1 two pair. The river was the 5 , and Shulman was eliminated from the tournament halfway through Level 3.
Minh Ly Knocks Two Out in Same Hand, Peter Gould Hits the Rail
On a flop of 8 5 3 , Minh Ly bet the pot (600) and just as seat 9 was about to fold, the floor person came over and told the dealer that the table would be breaking after the hand. Seat 9 made a rash decision to shove all in for 1,550 instead of taking his short stack to a new table. Peter Gould also followed that same logic calling all in for 1,100. Minh Ly made the call and had both players covered.
Minh Ly: Q 8 8 2
Gould: A Q 7 2
Seat 9: Q 7 6 4
Minh Ly flopped a set of eights and seat 9 had made an open-ended straght draw. Gould was drawing dead. The turn was the 9 and the river was the 3 , filling Ly and eliminating both Peter Gould and seat 9 in the same hand. The table broke immediately after the hand and Ly took an extra 3,000 or so with him to his new seat.

Big Hands:
Giang Bounced at the Break
On the last hand of the level before a 20-minute break, the flop came K 8 8 . Giang checked and Jamie Robbins bet pot for 26,000. Giang then check-raised all-in, meaning another 22,000 went into the pot. Robbins tanked, and then finally announced call. He held 9-8-7-6 for trips, while Giang had made his move holding A-K-Q-10 for top pair top kicker. The turn bricked and the river ace gave Giang two pair, but still only good for second place. Giang was eliminated in 34th place.
Stanley Steaming
Two big hands have knocked Stanley Statkiewicz Jr. down to just 28,000 in chips. The first was a showdown with Chau Giang. The flop came A J 10 with Statkiewicz holding Q-9-8-7 for the straight wrap. Giang had flopped a set of aces. The Q came on the turn and Giang committed his final 14,500 in chips. The board paired with the Q on the river and Giang filled.
Statkiewicz then went up against Eric Rosenman. Rosenman raised pre-flop and Statkiewicz called to see the flop come Q 9 5 . Rosenman used the chance to move all-in for 11,000 and Statkiewicz called, showing two pair. Rosenman had pushed with A K J J . The 4 on the turn gave Rosenman a flush draw, but it was the J for the rivered set that shipped him the chips.
Shulman Places 41st
Jesper Hougaard raised from the cutoff to 5100 and Shulman pushed all-in from the small blind for about 12,000. Hougaard called and showed Q J 10 9 . Shulman held A K J 6 . Neither player had spades as the flop came A K Q , but the straight was enough for Hougaard when it held through the river.
Gill Takes a Hit
Tournament chip leader Vanessa Selbst called from the big blind when Carter Gill raised to 4500 preflop. The flop came K Q 9 and both players checked, concerned of the straight possibility. The turn was the 2 and again both players checked. The river brought the A and Selbst checked to Gill who bet 8000. A non-believer, Selbst then raised to 31,500. Gill made the call and Selbst showed A K K Q , having flopped top set. Gill showed J J and mucked his hand. The call was for just shy of half of his chip stack which has fallen to 34,000.

The player who was in the small blind checked and Shulman bet the pot, which was 3,200 total. The player to his left folded and the action was to Giang. He called and the small blind folded, leaving two players to see the turn. The Q arrived on the turn and Shulman looked at his cards, trying to decipher what he had. He announced "pot" and shoved 9,600 into the middle. Giang raised all in and Shulman made the call and both players showed their hands.

Shulman made a queen high straight, but it was the sucker's end as Giang turned a king high straight. The river was the K and Shulman was sent to the rail. Giang was around 60,000 in chips and added more later as he busted another opponent at his table.
Morgan Doubles Up, Devil Fish Does Too
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman bet the pot preflop and Jordan Morgan called. The flop was J 9 2 and Shulman bet 7,200. Jordan Morgan moved all in and Shulman asked for a count. It was 17,000 more for her to call and she did. The hands were as follows:
Shulman: A A J 7
Morgan: Q J 9 4
Morgan flopped ahead, hitting top two pair and cracking Shuman's aces early. The turn was the 7 , giving Shulman a lesser two pair and she needed help. The river paired the board when the 9 hit. Unfortunately for Shulman, it filled up Morgan with nines full of jacks and he doubled up to around 50,000.
Dave "Devil Fish" Ulliot moved all in on the river against Chau Giang and was called. He showed 5-6 in his hand, giving him a straight to the eight and earning himself a double up to around 9,000 in chips.
Selbst Bulldozing Everyone
Before the flop, the action folded around to the small blind who completed the bet to 800. Vanessa Selbst was in the big blind and raised to 2,000. The player in the small blind called and the two saw a flop. It came A 7 6 . The small blind checked and Selbst bet 3,000. Her opponent folded and Selbst added to her chip lead. She was at 131,000 in chips.
Nam Le Chops It Up
On a board showing 3 7 A K 6 , Nam Le fired a bet and his opponent in seat 2 moved all in. Le made the call and the players turned up their hands.
Le: A J 5 4
Seat 2: 5 4 3 2
Both players had a straight to the seven and they chopped the pot, leaving Nam Le with around 40,000.
Kathy Liebert Wants Some Action
Liebert was trying to bet Rafi Amit that she would win more money than Amit in the 2008 World Series of Poker. Amit would not take the bet, however, saying that he could not see himself showing up to the casino every morning to play in the series.

Big Hands:

Allyn Jaffrey Shulman was under the gun and one of three players to see the flop come J 10 4 . The small blind bet 4800 and the big blind raised all-in for another 8500. Shulman easily had both players covered, but wasn't ready to commit to the hand and let it go. The small blind called and showed A 10 9 7 for the nut flush draw. The big blind held Q J 10 9 for top two pair and open-ended straight. That hand held up after the 9 hit the turn and 2 came on the river. Shulman later said she folded the nut straight.
Liebert Still Alive
Kathy Liebert was on the button and had Carter Gill raise to 600 in front of her. Liebert made the reraise for another 2500 and Gill called. The flop came Q 6 2 and Liebert went all-in for her remaining 5500 in chips. Gill folded and Liebert now has just over 10,000 in chips.
Gill Continues to Roll
Carter Gill is on the button and as one of the tournament chip leaders, has the chips to call a raise to 825. The big blind then moves all-in with a reraise to 3125. The initial raiser folds while Gill makes the call holding K J 9 4 . The big blind is all-in holding K K Q 6 . Scotty Nguyen, Devilfish Step Aside
Both prominent players were seated at the same table until just before the break. Ulliott made the 300 call from early position, the cut-off limped, and Nguyen folded in the small blind. Big blind checked to see a flop come Q 5 2 . The big blind and Ulliott checked, the button bet 675, and the big blind check-raised all-in. Ulliott and the cut-off both folded to the move.

Blinds: 25/50
Players: 750
Recent Eliminations: Shannon Elizabeth
Big Hands:
No Perfect 10 for Elizabeth
Movie star Shannon Elizabeth was playing just the second hand dealt at her table to begin the tournament. From the small blind, she was one of four players in for 175 preflop. The flop came 8 8 5 and all four players checked. The turn brought the 10 and Elizabeth led out for 400. The big blind called while the other two players folded. The K came on the river and Elizabeth bet 800, atr which point the big blind raised all-in. Elizabeth called and showed 8-5 for a flopped full house. The big blind held Q Q 10 10 , for a better full house spiked on the turn. During the hand Erick Lindgren took his seat at the table, and within 15 minutes he had eliminated another player.
Bleznick Call Comes Home
The big blind raised to 450 and six players called, including the small blind noting that the pot odds dictated a call. The flop came 6 4 3 , and the small blind pushed all-in. It was folded to Jared Bleznick in seat 6, who called his final 1525 in chips. The small blind held 7 5 4 3 for a flopped straight along with two pair. Bleznick held A Q J 6 for the nut flush draw. It came on the turn with the 10 and the river bricked, allowing Bleznick to scoop a monster.
Lee Still Alive
Doug Lee was a late arrival and lost the bulk of his chips early, but he was one of four callers to see a flop for 125. The flop came 10 6 5 and Lee checked from the small blind. Seat 5 bet 300 and Lee called. The 6 paired the board on the turn and Lee bet out 500, enough to take down the pot.
Katja Thater Crushed in First Round
On a board of 10 8 5 , 2007 bracelet winner Katja Thater got it all in against a short-stacked opponent. He flipped over A 7 4 2 for the nut flush, and Thater turned over Q Q 9 2 for a lesser flush. Katja still had ways of winning the pot via the J for a queen-high straight flush and running cards for a full house. The turn and river failed to deliver, and Thater was left with less than 1,000 in chips.
Phil Gordon Check-Raised, Gives Up on Pot
In a multi-way limped pot, Phil Gordon made a bet of 200 into a flop of Q 5 4 . After all other opponents folded, the player on Gordon's right check-raised him an additional 1,000. Gordon deliberated but released his hand, leaving him with 2,100 in chips.
Shulman knocks one out
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman raised to 150 and the player to her immediate left called. The two players saw the flop come 6 4 K . Shulman checked and her opponent moved all in for just 225. Shulman called with A 10 10 6 , while her opponent held A 5 4 2 . The turn and river were J and 6 , giving the pot to Shulman. It was a good level for Shulman; after the hand she had about 7,500 chips.

Shulman: J J 8 5
Giang: K K J 5

Guzman survives over and over
In a hand against two others, George Guzman goes all in without seeing his hole cards. When one of the other two players goes all with the board showing K-8-6-J, everyone's hand is turned up. Guzman finds out he has Q-Q-T-7 and needs an ace or nine on the river. Amazingly, the nine comes on the river, and Guzman triples up.
Denny Marinack goes out in rough fashion
Marinack was all in on a flop of A-6-5 and in good shape to catch at least the low pot, holding T-7-3-2. However the 2 came on the turn, giving his opponent a six-high straight and nut low with the 4-3 in his hand. As a result, Marinack was out in 29th place and took home $5,230.
Allyn Shulman goes out
On an A-K-K board, Allyn Shulman gets her remaining chips in the pot with K-J-9-6, and is up against an opponent who already has a full hosue with two aces. She didn't catch the one king left on the turn and river and was eliminated.
Gregorich thriving late in level
On two hands in the last orbit, Mark Gregorich has taken down pots with bets on the flop. He has over 160,000 chips as the field makes its way from three to two tables.

Friedman survives, but still in danger
Perry Friedman called a raise on the button and then called a bet after the flop came 6 A 8 . The turn was the T and he bet after it was checked to him. A player in the pot raised and he called to go all in. He showed A-3-4-T while his opponent held J-7-6-4. The turn was 9 giving each of the players half the pot. After the hand Friedman had under 10,000 chips.
Wolfe folds on turn to stay alive, but later goes out
With the board reading 5 K T 7 , Paul Wolfe folded and was left with just 8,000 chips. A short time later Wolfe was eliminated, going out in 65th place for $3,070.
Shulman survives early in level
In the first few minutes of level 14, Allyn Shulman found herself all in a board of 8 T 3 2 A . She showed A K Q 4 , while her opponent held A Q J 4 . Her A-K gave her the high pot while she split the low pot with A-4. With three quarters of the pot she was up to 15,000 chips, and since then has doubled her stack to 30,000 chips.
Clements struggling to gain ground
After raising preflop and getting calls from both blinds, Scott Clements bets after a 7 5 T flop and takes down the pot. Earlier today he was among the chip leaders, but currently has under 40,000 chips.

Omaha Hi-Low - Day 1 - Hour One

Event 6 (Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better) drew a considerably larger field than last year with 818 entrants, up more than 120 players from the previous 690 entrants. It appears as if the tournament staff was a little thrown off by these numbers seeing as the field is split over three quadrants and two rooms with players in almost all corners of the Amazon Room as well as in the Tropical Room (satellite room).

The player in seat 7 limped into the pot from early position and the player in seat 9 raised to 100 from middle position. Noah Boeken called the raise from the big blind and so did Seat 7. The flop comes Q 9 8 , and Seat 7 bet 50. Seat 9 folded while Boeken made the call. The turn brought the Q and Seat 7 bet 100. Boeken called. The river was the 7 and both players checked. Boaken turned over 6 5 / 5 3 for the flush. Seat 7 mucked and Boeken scooped the pot.
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman Turns a Full House, Can’t Get Paid Off
The player in seat 9 limped into the pot and Allyn Jaffrey Shulman raised to 100 from late position. The big blind called the raise along with Seat 9. The flop came Q 8 4 , and everyone checked around to Shulman who bet 50. The big blind called while Seat 9 folded his hand. The turn was the 4 and the big blind once again checked to Shulman who this time bet 100. The big blind thinks for a minute before folding. Shulman raked the pot and turned over 8 4 for a full house on the turn.

Hands:

Hands:

Jun 03, '08
Event 6 (Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better) drew a considerably larger field than last year with 818 entrants, up more than 120 players from the previous 690 entrants. It appears as if the tournament staff was a little thrown off by these numbers seeing as the field is split over three quadrants and two rooms with players in almost all corners of the Amazon Room as well as in the Tropical Room (satellite room).
Blinds/Antes: 25-50, moving up to 50-75

Big Hands:
Noah Boeken Scoops a Decent Pot

First Hour Gone

Cards in the Air
The cards have been in the air for only one hour and already day 1B feels different than day 1A. Day 1A was filled with nervous anticipation and tons of hype. Today feels more like a poker tournament, a convention of gamblers if you will. The day started with World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack unveiling the 2007 Main Event Champion's bracelet. This year's bracelet is made of white gold with 120 diamonds and a 1.3 karat weight. Pollack handed the microphone to the Rio's own Penn and Teller who were given the honor of announcing "Shuffle up and deal!"
Stacked Field
Although many notable names played in yesterday's field, today may have it beat. Scott Fischman, Erik Seidel, Joe Sebok, Sam Farha, Evelyn Ng, David "The Dragon" Pham, Paul Wasicka, John Juanda, "Miami" John Cernuto, Roland De Wolfe and Jennifer Harmon are just some of the big names sharing the felt in today's heat of Main Event entrants.
Champions Present
On any day one of the Main Event it is easy to walk around the Amazon room and count anywhere from five to twenty bracelet winners littered amongst the field. Eric Seidel, Scott Clements, David Williams and Jeff Lisandro are a few of the notable bracelet winners in today's field but more noteworthy may be the number of Main Event bracelet winners that are all playing today. Tom McEvoy ('83), Berry Johnston ('86), Dan Harrington ('95), Scotty Nguyen ('98) and Joe Hachem ('04) have all elected to play on day 1B of this year's Main Event.
A Family Affair?
Poker skills may or may not be hereditary, the jury is still out on that one, but there is something to be said for families that play the game. Brothers Ross and Barny Boatman are both in the field today and sitting just a few tables apart are David Williams and his mother, Shirley. Barry Shulman, his wife Allyn Jaffrey Shulman and his son Jeff Shulman are all at different tables but playing on the same day as well, while father and son Donnacha O’Dea and Eoghan O’Dea from Ireland are also in the field.
Hollywood in the House
Tournament official Nolan Dolla announced over the loud speaker that TV personality Montel Williams was amongst the 1,300 or so that started the day. It is not uncommon on day one to spot a few celebrities either playing or watching. Director and writer Nick Cassavetes is playing today as well as Norm McDonald who is playing for PokerStars.

Euro news
The European contingent is out in force today. Some interesting tablemates include Neil Channing and Michael Keiner, Ross Boatman and Pat O’Callaghan, Dave Shallow and Alexander Kravchenko, Al Kelleher and Max Pescatori, Rob Taylor and John Juanda, Bruno Fitoussi and Dan Harrington, Kathy Liebert and George McKeever.
Early chip movements include popular Blonde Poker journalist and birthday girl Jen Mason down to $13,050 in chips and equally popular European Poker Tour honcho John Duthie up to $34,050 in chips.
Recent bracelet winner Alan Smurfit is also playing as are Carlo Citrone, Praz Banzi, Juha Helppi, Vicky Coren, Marc Goodwin, Bruno Fitoussi, Simon Trumper, Pascal Perrault, Martin Wendt, Noah Boeken and Martin Green.
Trumper trumps opponent
Simon Trumper, from English crew Dusk Til Dawn, pulled what he described as 'an outrageous bluff' and was inordinately happy with his early play.
'I haven't made day two for five years and that has pi*sed me right off,' he told CardPlayer.com. 'I'm in the small blind with 8-6 and with three limpers i call. The flop came J-4-7 with two spades so if i hit a five i'm ahead or a spade i reckon i can represent the flush.' Cutting a long story short the limpers were weeded out when a spade came on the turn and another on the river. Trumper made it $2,500 into a pot of $4,500 on the river and the early raise dwelled.
Picking up the story Trumper said,' Just then they announced former world champion Berry Johnson was playing today so i took my hands off my cards and clapped. When the other guys saw how relaxed and casual i was he immediately mucked,' beamed an upbeat Trumper.
