Sally Boyer of Midway, Utah, currently holds the record for defeating the largest all-woman field in World Series of Poker history and had an interesting path to her $1,000 buy-in ladies no-limit bracelet.
Boyer was one of 100 or so students at the first-ever WSOP ladies academy. The three-day poker school held a freeroll that awarded 10 seats into the ladies event. She was eliminated from the tournament early and was disappointed by her performance. Boyer studied what she had learned from the academy and sought redemption by playing a tournament at the Gold Coast Casino. She won, and used the $1,100 first-place prize to buy into the WSOP event. Boyer then battled her way through an impressive field to take the first-place prize of $262,077.
