Jason Somerville Crosses the 900,000 Mark
Jason Somerville raised on the button and the big blind reraised an additional 30,000. Somerville set him all in with pocket sevens and the big blinds called with K Q .
The board came Q 9 6 10 8 and Somerville’s backdoor straight took it down to send the opponent to the rail and put his stack at 915,000.
Adam Geyer Busts to Dee Luong
Adam Geyer (pictured right) raised to 14,000 and Dee Luong reraised and Geyer announced all in. Luong called with A K and was racing against Geyer’s pocket queens.
The board came down 8 2 2 A 5 and Luong’s pair of aces sent Geyer to the rail short of the money. Luong now has 800,000, well above her husband Prahlad Friedman who is still alive in this tournament.
Corwin Cole Chips Up Big
During the level, Corwin Cole (pictured left) busted a player with set over set to bring his stack to a very impressive 760,000.
Brandon Cantu Busts POY Candidate Mike Leah

2. Alexandre Gomes — 94,000

10. David Williams — 60,000
Average Chip Count: 35,000
Notable Eliminations:
Beth Shak
Adam Weinraub
Hand of the Level:
Alexandre Gomes Wins Massive Pot
The most recent WPT champion, Alexandre Gomes, is doing his best to go back-to-back. On a board reading A Q 7 4 3 , Gomes bet 15,000 and the cutoff moved all in.
The big blind tanked for a bit before folding and Gomes insta-called with 6 5 for the nut straight. The cutoff showed 7 4 for two pair, not realizing he had the second best hand. After being informed, he made the slow walk out of the event center and Gomes moved his stack to a very healthy 94,000.
Level Summary:
About two tables dropped during a relatively quiet fourth level. The blinds are finally starting to pick up, but the players haven’t quite responded and for the most part, the notables in today’s field held strong.
Marco Johnson and Alexandre Gomes share the lead, but both Toto Leonidas and Nick Schulman are riding surges that see them both in the top five of the chip counts.
Ironically, the top three stacks in the room have a history together. Gomes famously sucked out on Johnson at the WSOP, giving Gomes his first bracelet. At the 2009 PokerStars Carribbean Adventure, Gomes sucked out on Adam Geyer in a monster pot that catapulted him to the final table, where he finished fourth.

Average Chip Count: 171,000
Notable Eliminations:
Adam “csimmsux” Geyer
Mikael Thuritz
Eli Elezra
Jennifer Harman
Gavin Smith
Jeff Garza
Big Hands:
Jason Mercier Takes Out Adam Geyer
Antonio Esfandiari raised to 6,400 from the cutoff and Adam Geyer reraised to 17,000 on the button. The action moved to Jason Mercier who reraised from the small blind. Esfandiari folded and Geyer reluctantly moved in for his last 30,000 or so. Mercier flipped up pocket aces and Geyer showed down pocket queens.
The board ran out K 10 5 4 2 giving no help to the three-time FTOPS champion and Geyer was eliminated. Mercier now has 255,000 in chips.
David Baker Chips Up
On a board reading 9 5 2 A Isaac Haxton bet 15,000. David “WhooooKidd” Baker stared his opponent down and decided to make the call. The river was the J and Haxton went into the tank. After about three minutes of dead silence, he tapped the table and Baker followed suit. Haxton turned over 7 6 for a missed straight draw and Baker showed K 9 to take the pot with third pair. Baker now has 247,000 in chips.
Andy Bloch Getting Picked on by Alec Torelli
After losing a big pot earlier to Torelli, Bloch checked a board showing J 10 4 7 k . Torelli launched a bet of 25,000 and Bloch went into a massive tank session. After almost 10 minutes, Bloch made the call. Torelli flipped over K J for top two pair. Bloch mucked and his stack dwindled to 17,000. Torelli was at 250,000.
A few hands later, Bloch doubled up with pocket kings against his opponent’s ace-queen.
Chris Moore Doubles Through Andy Black
Andy Black raised to 6,000 from the hijack. Chris Moore was next to act and move in for his last 30,000. Black talked to Moore for a bit before making the call and showing 5 5 . More showed A J and the board ran out J 6 10 Q 4 , giving Moore top pair and doubling him up to 60,000. Black took a slight hit, leaving his stack at 350,000.
“Action” Jeff Garza Sent Home By Phil Galfond
Jeff Garza was all in and called holding A-Q but was dominated by Phil Galfond’s superior A-K. The board rolled out nine high offering no help to the recently turned 21 Garza. Galfond now has a stack of 320,000.
Phil Hellmuth Crippled By Alan “The Usher” Sass
Alan Sass raised to 5,500 and Phil Hellmuth reraised to 15,000 directly behind him. Sass made the call and the flop came out 6 5 4 . Sass led into Hellmuth for 19,400 and Hellmuth called.
The turn was the K and Sass checked. Hellmuth fired in a bet of 35,000 and Sass called. The river was the Q and Hellmuth moved all in for 183,000, which had Sass covered by about 37,000. Sass called showing K 9 and Hellmuth mucked his hand.
After the hand, Hellmuth pulled one of our reporters aside to admit that he held A-7 for a busted open-ended straight draw. “I’d get penalized for saying this at the table, but I just wanted to let it be known that the most horrible players in the world usually beat me,” said Hellmuth.
The hand drew further attention when it was revealed that the dealer had miscounted the all-in stacks, giving Sass some more of Hellmuth chips. Hellmuth, clearly upset, responded with, “What are you trying to give it all to him?”
Not quite, as Hellmuth still has about 37,000 in chips.
Russell Rosenblum Doubles Up
Russell Rosenblum found himself and his stack of about 100,000 all in preflop holding pocket kings against the pocket jacks of Philippe Rouas. The kings held and Rosenblum safely doubled up to about 210,000.

Jan 09, '09
Alexandre Gomes raised to 102,000 on the button and Adam Geyer reraised to 350,000 from the small blind. After some thought, Gomes made the call.
The flop came down 10 6 5 and Geyer continued with a huge bet of 625,000.
After considering his options, Gomes then moved all in for 1,479,000. Geyer instantly called with pocket jacks for the overpair and seemed stunned to see Gomes turn over A 5 , despite having little to no fold equity.
The turn was the 8 and Gomes sat motionless, awaiting his fate.
The river was the... A ! and Gomes jumped out of his seat, high-fiving his buddies who had jumped over the rail to celebrate.
Geyer, despite the uproar at his expense, remained calm and simply paid off the bet, leaving him with just 888,000 in chips.
Gomes, who was just one card away from elimination, is now the chip leader with 3.9 million. Easy game.

Big Hands:
The Bubble Has Burst
The bubble has finally burst in event No. 21, and all the remaining 72 players are guaranteed a payday of at least $9,619. Humberto Kim had the misfortune of being the bubble boy when his ace-king was cracked by ace-queen with a straight. The announcement that the players had officially reached the money came with a flurry of all in bets from shorter stacks, resulting in several eliminations and double ups.
Hasan Habib Takes Down a Huge Pot
Hasan Habib dramatically improved his overall chip count ranking by winning a large pot without a flop. It began when Habib raised from under-the-gun and was called by two opponents. When the action got to Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin in the big blind, he raised an additional 42,000. After deliberating, Habib moved all in for his remaining 162,000. Both the initial callers folded and Baldwin went into the tank, wondering aloud what Habib was holding. Baldwin eventually mucked and told Habib that he was folding pocket queens. Somewhat surprised, Habib turned over J J and said that he didn’t think Baldwin had queens when he made the move.
Robert Zoellner Doubles Up with King-Deuce Offsuit
After facing a raise from the button, Robert Zoellner shipped his last 16,000 into the pot with K 2 . As it turned out, he was only up against 9 2 . Both players paired their deuce on the flop, but Zoellner’s kicker was good enough to double his stack.
Mizrachi Says “Hasta Luego” to Chips
Humberto Brenes raised to 8,000 from his position under-the-gun. As the player next to act, Michael Mizrachi counted out 8,000 in chips and looked at them. “Hasta luego!” Mizrachi said as he tossed them into the pot. The two players took the A Q 7 flop heads up. Brenes checked and Mizrachi made a bet of 10,000. Brenes called and checked the 5 when it fell on the turn. Mizrachi checked behind, and the dealer put down the K as the river. Again Brenes checked, and after shaking his head Mizrachi said, “I can never beat you. I check.” Brenes turned over A K , and Mizrachi showed him his J J before mucking. While discussing the hand with another player, Mizrachi said he was hesitant to reraise Brenes pre-flop as he feared Brenes might move all in.

Dag Palovic Allegedly Folds a Winner, Brummelhuis Takes a Hit
Dag Palovic raised to 7,500 from early position only to be reraised to 20,000 total by Michiel Brummelhuis. The big blind, who claimed he hadn’t played a hand in four hours, moved all in for his remaining 40,000. Palovic labored, but eventually folded. Brummelhuis made the call and turned over Q J . His opponent held A A , and the final board read 5 5 4 4 2 . Palovic claimed that he folded A K and would have eliminated either player with his nut flush.
Ryan Rapaski Wants to “Have Some Fun"
Facing a raise of 6,700, Ryan Rapaski moved all in from the button for his remaining 24,800. While the small blind was considering a call, Rapaski tried to goad him by saying, “Come on! Put your chips in and let’s have some fun.” The small blind folded, but the original raiser called and turned over 10 10 , the favorite to Rapaski’s A K . Rapaski spiked an ace on the flop and doubled up.
Kathy Woo Folds Aces Pre-flop?
Eli Elezra raised to 5,400 from under-the-gun and Kathy Woo called from the button. In the big blind, Scott Freeman put in a reraise of an additional 14,600. Elezra folded, and Woo contemplated for several minutes before eventually releasing her hand. Elezra announced that he had folded jack-ten. While smiling, Woo said that she folded pocket aces to avoid having a bad beat and being eliminated on the bubble. Elezra said, “Please tell me that’s true so I at least have a story.” Tablemate David Singer offered Elezra five to one odds that she was kidding. “I guess we’d have to take her on her word,” Elezra responded.
Singer Narrowly Avoids Being the Bubble Boy
David Singer, who had been nursing a small stack since the hand-for-hand bubble play began, moved his remaining 16,600 into the pot from early position. Aaron Colthard called from the big blind and turned over A 10 , a substantial favorite over Singer's A 8 . The J 2 2 flop was unkind to Singer, as was the 5 turn. However, the 8 river locked it up for Singer while a large crowd gathered around the table. "David, everybody in this room was rooting for you!" Eli Elezra commented.

Big Hands:
Luca Pagano Eliminated by Jacobo Fernandez
In a three-way pot, Luca Pagano moved all in on a flop of Q J 3 after one of his opponents checked. Fernandez called, and the other opponent folded. “You hit big?” Pagano asked, to which his opponent nodded. Fernandez turned over A A as Pagano flipped up 10 9 . The 4 turn and 3 river failed to complete Pagano’s straight draw, and he was eliminated.
Jason Tikijian Eliminated by Stephen Dwyer
After the pre-flop action folded to him, Jason Tikijian shipped his remaining 42,000 into the pot. Immediately next to act, Stephen Dwyer reraised all in for over twice the amount. All the remaining players folded, and the hands were shown down: A T for Tikijian and Q Q for Dwyer. The final board read J 5 5 4 3 , offering no help to Tikijian.
A Dramatic Hand Ends with the Elimination of Jan Heitmann
Blake Cahail raised to 6,000 from middle position and faced a call only from Jan Heitmann on the button. On a flop of Q 7 6 , Cahail led out for 7,500. Heitmann deliberated before raising to 24,000. After sizing up the situation, Cahail shoved his remaining stack across the line, and Heitmann quickly called. Cahail turned over K Q for top pair, while Heitmann turned over 9 8 for an open-ended straight draw with a nine-high flush draw. Heitmann had 14 outs: eight remaining spades (the K was held by Cahail) and six straight cards (with the 5 and 10 already counted as spade outs). The J turn and 6 river weren’t any of the previously mentioned outs, and Heitmann was reduced to less than 8,000 in chips.
Heitmann was actually the favorite with his draw over Cahail’s top pair. Want to make yourself the favorite? Find the odds for any situation with Card Player’s Poker Odds Calculator.

Seidman hit a 7 on the river to make a straight and survive.
Adam "csimmsux" Geyer Eliminated in Eighth Place ($94,481)
Adam geyer raised all in preflop and Dave Seidman made the call. Each player flipped up a pocket pair, and each player made a set on the turn when it delivered an ace and a 9.

Eli Elezra raised to 5,400 from under-the-gun and Kathy Woo called from the button. In the big blind, Scott Freeman put in a reraise of an additional 14,600. Hour Three Recap
Jul 03, '07
STUD EIGHT-OR-BETTER
This level began at a snail’s pace with no hand going past 4th street for the first 15 minutes. Then Adam Geyer took a large pot off of Chip Jett, to get things going. On 5th street with 7 2 2 Jett bet $40,000, Geyer raised to $80,000 with A 10 8 6 showing, and Jett called. Jett received the J on 6th street, Geyer caught the 6 , Geyer bet and was called. Geyer bet on the river, but Jett ultimately mucked his hand.
A few hands later Geyer shipped a large amount of those chips to Dao Bac. Geyer had 4 5 4 10 showing, while Bac held 8 4 2 A . Geyer called his river bet, and Bac showed a 8-6 for a pair of eights and a low, which was good enough to scoop the pot.
After losing one more hand, Jett was forced to commit all of his chips to a pair of Queens. Geyer caught up and busted Jett with Aces up.
Bac and Geyer then took a 15 minute break, that ran long while they discussed a chop. Not being able to reach an agreement, they sat back down with Bac enjoying a slight chip lead.

Chip Jett Eliminated in 3rd Place ($55,801)
Jul 03, '07
Chip Jett was all in on 4th Street with Q 3 (A Q ) against Adam Geyer with 8 A (10 6 ). Geyer caught a low draw on fifth street, but took the lead with an Ace on sixth. Geyer then rivered a second pair with a 10 on the river, leaving Jett drawing very thin. The river bricks out for Jett and he earns $55,801 for his finish.
The two players are on a 15 minute break with 3 minutes left in the Stud Eight-or-Better level. Dao Bac currently leads in chips with approximately $860,000 to Geyer's $630,000.

Hour Three Recap
Jul 03, '07
HOLDEM
Chip Jett was very active in this round of holdem. Right out of the gate he flopped a straight on a Ks Qc Js board with 10s 9d. Jett bet it the whole way and Adam Geyer was kind enough to look him up. Two hands later Raymond Davis made his final stand with A-K, but Dao Bac rivered a straight with a 9s 5s, and Davis bowed out in 4th place.
Jett then continued his dominance, taking a nice pot off of Bac with K J , paired up with the K 7 5 6 10 board. Jett also got action from Bac when he flopped trip Aces later in the round.
OMAHA EIGHT-OR-BETTER
Jett and Bac chopped up some of Geyer’s chips in a big family pot early in this round. The board read K 8 7 K 6 , Bac showed a 5-4 for the high, and Jett showed A-3 for the low.
There was a partial color up during the level, and it seems that the players are all pretty even in chips, with Geyer still maintaining the lead.

Hour 2 Recap
Jul 03, '07
Players are just now returning from a 15 minute break that followed the conclusion of the Stud round.
STUD EIGHT-OR-BETTER
Vladimir Shchemelev might have wanted to sit this round out. After being scooped in the previous hour by Adam Geyer, Shchemelev was eliminated when he got all of his chips in with Queens and eights with both Chip Jett and Dao Bac calling. However, Jett turned up three sevens and that spelled disaster (and elimination) for Shchemelev.
STUD
Raymond Davis took a sizable pot off of Imre Leibold raising him off the hand on 6th street and showing his pocket sixes to match the one in his board once he folded. Davis has been the life of the table so far. He has been very talkative the whole way through, particularly discussing where he’s going to enjoy his winnings tonight.
Adam Geyer has pulled himself into the chip lead do in large part to his elimination of Irme Leibold. Geyer had Leibold up against it with a made straight to Leibold’s trip Queens, and dodged Leibold’s nine outs on the river to eliminate him. Geyer then took a nice pot off of Davis, leaving him crippled going into the break.

Imre Leibold Eliminated in 5th Place ($26,572)
Jul 03, '07
Adam Geyer lead the betting to sixth street with his board showing 10 J A K , Imre Leibold, with his board showing Q 9 Q 8 raised Geyser's bet to put himself all in. Geyer called and showed his Q J in the hole for the Broadway straight while Leibold held Q 5 . Leibold squeezed his river card, but the 6 failed to fill him up and he was eliminated in 5th place.
