In A Hurry To LeaveJun 05, '07 Play started today at 2pm PST with 90 players remaining, all of them in the money. The after the first hour, the field has already been whittled down to 62 players. Thom Werthmann (86th), Thor Hansen (82nd), "Minneapolis Jim" Meehan (76th), and Mihn Nguyen (72nd). all could not survive the first hour of Day Two.Nguyen, despite sitting for almost an hour with about $4,500 in chips, while the average stack has closer to $45,000, was in great spirits, and celebrated with his tablemates including David Chiu when he squeaked past another pay bump. Nguyen found himself all-in soon after with K-J against his opponent's 10-10. The flop came K-Q-10, but Nguyen would not make his straight as was sent to the rail. Others players still very much in the game include David Sklansky, Matt Hawrilenko (who was moved into Nguyen's seat), and Scott Keikoan. They are down to 7 tables, looking to get down to the final nine players before the end of the day. At 1:45 a.m., with 98 players remaining and play scheduled to end at 2 a.m., tournament officials announced that play would continue until the money was reached. The announcement recieved mixed reviews, inciting both groans and cheers. Included in the announcement was also that hand for hand play would begin when there were only 92 players left. Play barely crept into level 12 before the 91st player was eliminated and play ended.Young Phan, Brett Richey and Andy Bloch all were eliminated out of the money. Following a series of unfortunate hands, Richey was all in with K-J and ran into an opponent's pocket tens. Bloch was holding J-8 and was all in after the flop of A 6 2 . Bloch's opponent called with 2 2 and Bloch failed to improve. 90 players will return tomorrow at 2 p.m. with 56 minutes left in level 12 and they will play down to the final table. Every player remaining in the field will earn at least $2,360 for his or her efforts. Still in the field are renowned poker player and author David Sklansky, Thor Hansen and Thomas Werthmann, who won a bracelet in limit hold 'em in the 2005 World Series of Poker. The turn was the 2 and the player in seat six bet out $2,000. Werthmann again made the call and the river was the 4 . Seat six bet out $2,000 again and Werthmann called. Cloutier has managed to build his stack back up to over $8,000 after taking some hits before the dinner break. Cloutier was able to collect some chips when his pocket sixes held up with a board of A-K-2-3-x. Following the hand Cloutier said, "I knew I had the best hand going in, but that flop....." Two tables away, Young Phan and Thor Hansen are exchanging chips. With a flop of J 9 3 Thor Hansen checks and Young Phan bets $1,600. Hansen makes the call and the turn is the 6 . Phan bets $1,600 and Hansen makes the call. The river is the 5 and Phan checks. Hansen bets out $1,600 and Phan makes the call. Hansen shows K J for top pair and Phan mucks his cards and tells Hansen that he had two tens.Immediately after his hand with Thor Hansen, Young Phan was able to double up through the player in seat two. Phan makes it $1,600 from the button and the player in the small blind raises to $2,400. Phan calls and the flop comes J 8 5 and seat two bets $800. Phan raises to $1,600 which puts him all in and seat two makes the call. The players turn over their cards and Phan is holding 10 8 . The player in seat two shows A 10 and says, "Agh, my ten is dead." Phan replies, "Don't worry, that ace will come." The turn is the Q and the river is the 8 doubling Young Phan up to over $8,000.
