Big Hands:
Kieth Lehr Eliminated in 27th Place ($24,066)
Although it was Michael Kamran who crippled Kieth Lehr in a previous hand when Lehr ran his J-10 into Kamran’s A-J on a jack-high board, it was Ken Lennard that gets the kill when his A-9 cracked Lehr’s A-A.
Crippled just a few hands prior, Kieth Lehr gets it all in pre-flop with A A against Ken Lenaard’s A 9 .
The board comes Q 8 7 K 9 , giving Lenaard the ace-high flush on the river to crack Lehr’s aces and send him to the rail in 27th place ($24,066).
Luke Staudenmaier Eliminated in 24th Place ($24,066)
It’s a three-way all in pot between Luke Staudenmaier, Kirill Gerasimov and Keven Stammen; Stammen has them both covered.
Staudenmaier: J 10
Gerasimov: A K
Stammen: 10 10
Board: 7 5 2 Q A
Stammen leads the pot with a pair of tens until the river where Gerasimov spikes an ace. Gerasimov more than doubles up this hand, now with 550,000 in chips as Stammen takes a big hit to his stack and Luke Staudenmaier is eliminated in 24th place ($24,066).
Kevin Stammen Eliminated in 23rd Place ($24,066)
Bryn Kenney Eliminated in 22nd Place ($24,066)
Kevin Stammen raises form under the gun and John Kabbaj reraises to 150,000 behind him. One-time chipleader Bryn Kenney moves all in for 278,000 from the big blind and both opponents call.
Stammen: J J
Kenney: 10 10
Kabbaj: A K
Board: 8 5 2 A 9
Kabbaj pairs his ace on the turn and eliminated both of his opponents in the same hand. Kevein Stammen is eliminated in 23rd place ($24,066) while former chipleader, Bryn Kenney is forced to settle for 22nd place ($24,066). John Kabbaj rakes the pot and secures a massive chiplead with well over 1.5 million this hand.

Marco Johnson
Big Hands:
Chino Rheem Quick To Business
Entering the day as the short stack, Chino Rheem wasted little time as he looked down at his hand from under the gun. He pushed his stack of 11,800 into the middle and Marco Johnson made the call. Rheem turned over A 10 , dominating Johnson’s A 9 . The flop came down 7 5 2 giving Johnson very little help to knock Rheem out. The 7 came on the turn and Johnson could only knock Rheem out by pairing his nine. The 6 fell on the river and Rheem’s hand was good as he doubled up to almost 24,000 while Johnson was down under 10,000 and would bust later in the level.
Don’t Feed The Fish
A player moved all in preflop and Darryll Fish was the only one to look him up. Fish showed A 10 while his opponent was dominated with A 2 . The flop dropped K J 7 , giving Fish’s opponent the nut flush draw. The 9 fell on the turn and Fish was still in the lead. The river card was the 6 and Fish held on to knock out his opponent and improve to 210,000 in chips.
Double Dragon: The Revenge Of Keith Lehr
Keith Lehr and David Pham were tangled in a hand where the flop came down J 7 3 . Lehr moved all in and Pham made the call.
Pham: K 4
Lehr: K J
Lehr held the lead with top pair and second kicker but Pham had plenty of outs as he had a diamond-flush draw. The turn brought the 8 , giving Pham no help and the 6 on the river cemented the hand for Lehr. He doubled to 160,000 while Pham dropped to 98,000.

13. Brian Townsend ($128,666)
12. Matthew Marafioti ($172,120)
11. Keith Lehr ($172,120)
Big Hands:

Brian Rast Eliminated in 14th Place ($128,666)
Vitaly Lunkin raised pre-flop to 100,000 from middle position and Brian Rast moved all-in over the top for 420,000 more from the big blind. Lunkin went into the tank and eventually made the call for the majority of his chips and exposed 5 5 . However, Rast had him dominated with K K . The flop was a disaster for Rast however, as Lunkin flopped a full house with three cards of 8 8 5 . The turn brought the 2 and the river 5 gave Lunkin quads, eliminating Rast close to the final table bubble.
Brian Townsend Eliminated in 13th Place ($128,666)
Brian Townsend shoved all in for his last 800,000 on the button and Alec Torelli isolated behind him. Noah Schwartz tanked in the big blind for a few minutes before making the call himself, putting a huge portion of his stack at risk.
Townsend showed 7 6 , Torelli showed pocket tens and Schwartz showed the best hand with pocket queens. Unfortunately, the board ran out J 10 7 10 4 and Torelli’s quads bumped his stack to 5 million. Schwartz took a hit down to 700,000 and Townsend was eliminated from the tournament.
Matthew Marafioti Eliminated in 12th place ($172,120)
Ted Forrest opened the action with a 120,000 under the gun raise that was re-raised by Isaac Haxton to 375,000 total. Matthew Marafioti was next to act and instantly went all in for 575,000 total. Tony G woke up with A K in the small blind and went into the tank for minutes. Riding a short stack for quite some time, Tony G eventually decided to fold. Isaac immediately called and tabled K K . Marafioti was discouraged as he flipped over Q Q . When the players flipped over their cards Tony G said he might have had the odds to call, from the small blind and with his extremely short stack. The flop came A 2 5 , putting Haxton well ahead and caused Tony G to pace around the table. The A hit the turn and the J fell on the river, eliminating Marafioti. Haxton is now up to 2,400,000 in chips.

Vitaly Lunkin Wins Huge Double
With very little in the pot, Greg Raymer pushed all in into Vitaly Lunkin for about 1,700,000. Lunkin called immediately to the shock of Raymer. The 2004 Main Event champion exclaimed, “I didn’t think he would call,” as he turned over 6 6 . Lunkin had the perfect read on Raymer and tabled J J , for a higher pocket pair. With other players at the table saying “nice call” to Lunkin, the flop came out A Q K , to put Lunkin far out ahead. The 10 on the turn put Raymer drawing for at best a split pot. The river brought the 10 and Lunkin won a 3,500,000 chip pot.
Keith Lehr Eliminated in 11th Place ($172,120)
Greg Raymer raised and Keith Lehr moved all in for 800,000 from the small blind. Raymer made the call and showed J J which was racing against Lehr’s A Q . The board ran out king high but failed to connect with Lehr’s hand, sending him to the rail.
Left in the Deck:
The players at the table were trying to work out a short 20 minute break to continue play until one more is eliminated. However, Tony G gave the only dissenting vote to force the rest of the table to take an hour break before resuming play.

Notable Eliminations:
17. Clark Hamagami ($96,171)
16. Doshi Suresh ($96,171)
15. David Baker ($128,666)
Big Hands:

Doshi Suresh Eliminated by Greg Raymer in 16th Place ($96,171)
Doshi Suresh moved all-in pre-flop and was quickly called by the big stack of Greg Raymer. Suresh tabled A 10 and Raymer exposed Q Q . The flop came 6 7 4 , giving Suresh a back door flush draw to go along with his over card. The 10 hit the turn and Raymer was well ahead, looking to dodge the remaining tens and aces in the deck. The 5 fell on the turn and Suresh was eliminated. Raymer is now up to 2,600,000 in chips and could add this prestigious tournament to his poker resume to go along with his main event win a few years ago.
David Baker Eliminated in 15th Place ($128,666)
David Baker raised to 85,000 on the button and Lex Veldhuis reraised to 205,000 from the small blind. Baker moved all in for 1,480,000 and Velhuis called him down. Their cards:
Baker: 6 6
Veldhuis: J J
Board: A 7 2 9 A
Baker was eliminated in 15th place and Veldhuis grew his stack to 5.2 million to take the chip lead.
Greg Raymer gets Aces Cracked Twice
Brian Townsend was all in preflop on the small blind for 275,000 and Greg Ramyer had him covered under the gun. Their cards:
Raymer: A A
Townsend: A Q
Board: K 10 9 J 3
Townsend doubled up on the hand to survive with a Broadway straight and Raymer took a hit on the hand.
A few hands later Keith Lehr was the player all in preflop and once again Raymer had his opponent covered. Their cards:
Raymer: A A
Lehr: K 9
Board: K 7 3 2 9
Lehr doubled up on the hand to survive and Raymer couled only watch as his aces were crakced for a second time in a row. Raymer still held 2.1 million after the hand due to the short stacks that he was up against in both cases.
Left in the Deck
- Layne Flack came over from his Omaha 8 or Better to talk with Ted Forrest.

Neil Chriss Becomes Unfortunate Bubble Boy
Alec Torelli raised to 50,000 on the button and both Neil Chriss and Greg Raymer came along in the blinds. The flop came out A 9 6 and Chriss led out for 100,000. Raymer folded and Torelli moved all in, putting Chriss to the test.
Chriss made the call showing A 4 and was temporarily ahead of Torelli’s 8 7 for an open-ended straight draw. But the turn and river came 5 9 giving Torelli the winning straight and making Chriss the bubble boy.
Vanessa Rousso Eliminated in 27th Place ($71,858)
_
Keith Lehr raised to 75,000 and Vanessa Rousso moved all in behind him for her last 350,000. Lehr made the call and showed A K which was racing against Rousso’s Q Q . The board came out J 7 6 5 A and Lehr rivered his ace to make Rousso the first player to finish in the money.
J.C. Tran Eliminated in 26th Place ($71,858)
J.C. Tran raised to 105,000, basically committing the rest of his stack. Matt Marafioti then reraised to 700,000, more than enough to put him all in. Tran called with Q J and was crushed by Marafioti’s Q Q . To add insult to injury, the case queen hit the flop and Marafioti went on to make a full house, eliminating Tran from the tournament.
Sorel Mizzi Eliminated in 25th Place ($71,858)

Torelli said, “I think you got me,” and Huck turned over the 10 7 . To Torelli’s surprise he rivered Seed, and exposed J 10 for a pair of jacks. Seed was severely short stacked and moved all-in the next hand with 7 6 from the button only to be called by Greg Raymer in the small blind with K 9 . Seed was severely short stacked and moved all-in the next hand with 7 6 from the button only to be called by Greg Raymer in the small blind with K 9 . Seed failed to hit and was knocked out of Event 2 of the World Series of Poker.
Nam Le Doubles Up

Big Hands:
Shawn Buchanan Doubles Up
Michael DeMichele raises to 2,600 from middle position and Shawn Buchanan moves all in for 13,300 more. The action folds back around to DeMichele who makes the call. Buchanan turns over J J while DeMichele shows A 10 . The board comes K 10 2 4 K , and Buchanan’s jacks hold up. Buchanan doubles up to 35,000 this hand while DeMichele takes a slight hit down to 222,000.
Doyle Brunson doubles up Nicolas Levi
Nicolas Levi moved all in pre-flop and was called by Doyle Brunson. Levi exposed Q Q and Brunson flipped over 9 9 and was well behind. The flop bricked for Brunson and the queen on the turn had the 10-time bracelet winner drawing dead.
Shaun Deeb Doubles up Lex Veldhuis
With A K , Alexander Veldhuis moved all in pre-flop and was called quickly by the 4 4 of Shaun Deeb. The pot stood at about 330,000 and the flop completely missed Veldhuis. However, the ace on the turn put Veldhuis ahead and gave him the massive pot.
Chris Moneymaker Making a Run Up the Leaderboard
Keith Lehr raises to 3,000 from early position and Chris Moneymaker calls from the button. The flop comes Q 4 3 , Lehr bets 7,000, Moneymaker calls. The turn is the K and this time Lehr bets 17,000. Moneymaker raises another 25,000 and Lehr folds after a minute in the tank. After the hand Lehr falls down just about 200,000 while Moneymaker climbs up to 260,000 in chips.

$2,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em - End of Day 2
Jun 21, '08
The final table of event 38 is set and the big name of the lot is Lee Watkinson. Watkinson will be making his first final table since last year's World Series main event where he finished a dissapointing 8th place. Watkinson entered 10-handed play with a paucity of chips, a situation he would soon remedy by winning a race against Robert Cheung. He would never look back and by the time the final table was set, he would be 2nd in chips with 390,000. Jan Von Halle, whose play has been solid as a rock, will enter the final table with the chip lead. Other notables who will have the chance to earn a bracelet tomorrow include Ayaz Mahmood, Robert Cheung, and Chris Bell.
Action will begin tomorrow at 2 p.m. PST.

The Road To The Final Table
Keith Lehr Is A Man Of His Word; He’s Also Eliminated
Before the start of the hand, Keith Lehr in the big blind warned everyone at his 6-handed table not to raise unless they were willing to play for 83,000, the size of his stack. Ayaz Mahmood, undeterred by this portentous statement, raised to 23,000. Action folded around to Lehr who – surprise, surprise – moved all of his chips in. Mahmood made the call and the two showed their hands:
Lehr: A 9
Mahmood: 4 4
The flop came K 3 3 . The turn 8 gave Lehr a flush draw in addition to his two overcards. The river was the 7 though, ending Lehr’s day a few hours earlier than he would have liked.
Bell Tolls For Binger
Chris Bell raised from middle position to 25,000 and Michael Binger raised to 78,000, leaving himself 75,000 behind. After a bit of thought, Bell moved all-in and Binger called. The two were racing: Bell’s J J against Binger’s A Q . Binger was not aided by the board – 9 7 5 10 9 – and he was eliminated in 11th place.
Ayaz Mahmood Folds.... A-K? Really?
Ayaz Mahmood raised to 28,000 and action at the 6-handed table folded to Bob Cheung in the big blind. Cheung stacked his chips and slid them forward and backward in thought, never moving them into the center of the table. After a minute or so of this, Mahmood implored Cheung, “Put your money in.” Another minute passed before Cheung raised the pot, making it 61,000 more and leaving about 160,000 behind. This prompted Mahmood to fold A-K offsuit face up. Mahmood and Cheung were the two biggest stacks at the table at the time; perhaps Mahmood did not want to tangle with someone who could cripple him before the final table.
Final Table Action
Watkinson Doubles Up
Early on at the final table, Lee Watkinson doubled up off of Robert Cheung. Cheung had Q Q and Watkinson had A K . The flop was good news for Watkinson – K 2 2 – the king giving him a near lock on the hand. The turn was the A , giving him an unnecessary two pair, but also providing Cheung with a flush draw. The river blanked, however, and Watkinson was able to double up, giving him a stack that would not wane for the remainder of the day.
Greer Doubles Up
Severely short-stacked Keith Greer, in the cutoff, moved 20,000 into the pot for a raise and reached for more chips to add to it, but since he had not announced an amount, the min-raise had to stand. Ayaz Mahmood called the 10,000 extra in the big blind. Both players checked the Q 10 7 flop. On the 8 turn Mahmood bet 30,000, putting Greer all-in. Greer made a quick call and declared a set of tens. His 10 10 had Mahmood’s 10 2 drawing dead. Greer doubled up to a little over 100,000.
Greer Double Doubles Up
Perhaps a simpler title would have been Greer Quadruples Up, but this was anything but a simple hand. Benjamin Zamani raised to 26,000 from middle position. Robert Cheung min-raised to 40,000. The action was only beginning though. Keith Greer, who had been playing extraordinarily tight, moved in for 67,000. Ayaz Mahmood cold-called the 4-bet, and Zamani called also, leaving himself 90,000 behind. Cheung asked the dealer, “The pot is open for a re-raise, right?” The dealer confirmed that it indeed was, and that put Cheung into decision mode. With numbers racing through his head, he stood up, and, after confirming that Mahmood had about 270,000 left behind him, he moved all-in. Mahmood folded, as did Zamani, and the massive pot was to be contested between Cheung and Greer. Greer showed Q Q , which was not unexpected, but the table exploded in a cacophony of disbelief when Cheung showed his K Q . The board rolled off harmlessly and Greer was able to more than quadruple up.
The insanity wasn’t quite over yet. Remarkably, Ayaz Mahmood claimed to have fold pocket kings. Then again, perhaps it was not so unbelievable when you consider his berating of Cheung after the hand. He and Cheung got into a bit of a tiff about the hand which was quickly quashed by the dealer as play recommenced.
Michael Greco summed all of the action quite succinctly: “Mental. Mental. Absolutely mental.”
The Backbreaker
Davidi Kitai and Benjamin Zamani, the two short stacks, got all of their chips into the middle and showed the following hands:
Zamani: 10 10
Kitai: A Q
The board peeled off A 5 2 5 K and Kitai had doubled up. After counting out what Zamani owed the Frenchman, he was left with a mere two chips. There would be no miracle comeback for Zamani today, as Jan Von Halle took his pair of chips only two hands later. Zamani's 10th place finish is good for $14,314.

It took only 15 minutes to eliminate 3 participants and reach the final 18 players. Players were drawn to their new seats and play resumed. Another 3 players were eliminated before the end of the level, leaving us with only 15 players left.
Watkinson Makes Nice Laydown
Lee Watkinson raised to 18,000 from early position and was met by a raise from Keith Lehr. The bet was 45,000 more to Watkinson who only thought for seconds before folding 9-9 face-up. Lehr sportingly showed his J-J and congratulated Watkinson on a nice fold.
Cheung Eliminates Perry
Robert Cheung raised to 20,000 from middle position and Rob Perry moved all-in from the small blind for about 55,000. Cheung called, saying, “I don’t have much.” Cheung turned over Q J and was delighted to see Perry flip 7 7 . The flop was 9 4 4 , but the turn was the Q and Perry tossed his orange high into the air in frustration (catching it as it came down, of course). The turn 8 brought no help and Perry was eliminated in 20th place.
Kitai Does In Quinn
Dan Quinn limped on the button, Davidi Kitai call from the small blind, and Michael Binger checked his option. The flop rolled out Q J 7 and the two blinds checked to Quinn who bet 12,000. Kitai called and Binger folded. The turn was the A . Kitai checked again, Quinn bet 42,000, and Kitai raised a nominal amount to put Quinn all-in. The two showed their cards:
Kitai: Q 10
Quinn: Q 9
The river was the 5 and Quinn was eliminated in 19th place.

Big Hands:
Sigh Duck: Set No Good
On a board of K J 5 Q 9 , Eli Elezra checked to Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar. Rajkumar thought for a minute before inquiring, “Is a set any good?” and betting 8,000 into the pot of about 12,000. Elezra thought only momentarily before calling and turning over JT. Vivek, true to his word, showed QQ for a set of queens and mucked. Elezra was boosted to 90,000. Rajkumar's setback proved to be only temporary, as he fought back to regain a big stack (180,000).
Grundy wins blind vs. blind battle
With a board of Q K 5 J 5 , Ben Grundy reluctantly called a bet of 15,000. As soon as his chips hit the felt the small blind mucked his hand. Grundy scooped up the pot and increased his chip stack to roughly 135,000.
Ryan Young fails to entice bet
From the big blind Ryan Young check-called a bet of 5,700 on a flop of 6 3 3 After the 9 came on the turn, Young checked and then called a 15,000 bet. The river was the 4 and Young again bet. This time is opponent checked and Young sheepishly flipped over pocket 3s.
Sprengers springs a trap
Ben Sprengers of Florida made a major leap forward in a span of three hands. Playing from late position, Sprengers raised to 4,000 and was called by the button. On a dangerous flop of A K 9 Sprengers fired out a bet of $17,000. He was called, which resulted in Sprengers checking the turn when the 8 struck. The button also checked. The river brought the 10 , and Sprengers fired out a bet of 32,000. The button called. Sprengers rolled over the T 8 for running two pair, while the button revealed the K Q .
Two hands later, Sprengers increased his stack to 125,000 when his pocket kings busted a short-stacked opponent.
Benyamine cashes in
David Benyamine increased his stack to 128,000 when his pocket aces crippled an opponent with pocket kings. The double-paired board of J 8 5 J 8 didn’t scare either player.
Newhouse rakes a pot
John Juanda raised to 3,800 from middle position. A player in late position called and Mark “Newhizzle” Newhouse came along from the big blind. On a flop of K 9 3 , Newhouse checked to Juanda, who bet 7,200, the late position player folded and Newhouse called. After a 5 came on the turn, Newhouse check-called a 14,600 bet. Both players checked the river and Newhouse took down the pot with K Q .
Haxton gets the better of Saul
On a board of K Q 2 7 4 , Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul checked to Isaac “Ike” Haxton who bet the remainder of his stack – 17,000 – into a pot of 30,000. Saul thought for a few moments before calling, only to muck quickly after Haxton flipped K T for top pair. The hand strengthened Haxton to 65,000 and dropped Saul to 84,000.
