Bill Edler Eliminated
Jan 13, '10
Bill Edler came in on the short stack and hung on for as long as he could, but his top pair with A-Q on a board of Q-10-3-9 was drawing dead to Dmitry Stelmak’s K-J.
Stelmak moved up to 330,000 while Edler busted, leaving just 18 players in the field.

Alvarado: A A
Turn and River: 4 and 10
Michelle was eliminated from the tournament on the hand.
Vivek Rajkumar Climbs Past 100,000
A board of K K Q 2 sat on the table when a player ahead of Vivek Rajkumar bet 9,800. Rajkumar called and the river brought the 6 . This time his opponent checked and Rajkumar jumped into action, firing out a bet of 22,000. His opponent made the call and Rajkumar flipped over K 8 . His opponent mucked and Rajkumar held 112,000 after the hand.
Jason Mercier Crippled and then Eliminated
A player raised to 2,500 preflop from early position and Team PokerStars pro Jason Mercier (pictured right) reraised to 6,400. Debra Marshall then reraised all in for 16,000 and the original raiser mucked. Mercier thought for a moment and made the call. Their cards:
Mercier: K 4
Marshall: J-J
Board: Q 4 3 5 A
Mercier was crippled with just 6,000 after the hand and he was all in for his tournament life a few moments later. His final stand was made with Q J , not bad, but they ran right into pocket kings and Mercier’s PCA main event is over.

A flop of 10 8 5 sat on the table and 7,000 was in the pot when Amit Makhija opened the action for 5,000. Bill Edler then raised to 12,000 right behind him and Wayne Bentley called. The turn brought the 3 and Edler checked. Bentley bet 15,000 and Edler raised to 55,000.
Bentley then reraised all in and Edler made the all-in call. Edler turned over K K but Bentley revealed 8 8 for a set.
Edler was eliminated on the hand and Bentley increased his chip lead to 335,000.

Big Hands:
Elky Doubles To 500,000
Picking up the action on the flop of A 5 4 , Bertrand Grospellier led out for 15,500 from the cutoff and the player on the button raised to 40,500. Grospellier then repopped it to 83,000. The button called and the turn was the K . Grospellier led out for 55,500 and the button moved all in, having Grospellier covered. Grospellier made the quick call for his last 137,900 in chips.
“I’ve got nothing,” the button said as he tabled J 9 . Grospellier showed 4 4 for a set and the button was drawing stone cold dead. The river was the meaningless 7 and Grospellier doubled to 500,000.
Ivey Can’t Call On The Turn
Phil Ivey raised to 4,500 from under the gun and seat 3 made the call. The player in seat 5 also called and the three players saw a flop of J 5 5 . Ivey led out with 9,000 and seat 3 min-raised to 18,000. Seat 5 got out of the way but Ivey made the call. The turn was the 2 and Ivey checked. Seat 3 immediately announced “all in,” pushing his stack of 85,400 into the middle. Ivey tanked for a few minutes but finally let his hand go. Seat 3 showed the J and took in the pot while Ivey was at 358,000.
Happy Days Are Here Again
On a flop of K 3 8 , Jeff Shulman led out for 6,000 and the player in seat 8 made the call from the button. The turn was the 7 and Shulman checked. Seat 8 bet 11,000 and Shulman made the call.
The river was the 3 and Shulman checked a second time. Seat 8 bet 15,000 and Shulman called. “You got it,” seat 8 said as he shoved his hand in the muck. Shulman showed down K 2 and took the pot. After being down around 120,000 earlier in the day, Shulman has rebounded to 235,000.
Bill Edler Sent Packing
A player raised to 4,400 preflop and Bill Edler made the call. Jamie Brown also came along and the flop fell J 10 7 . Everyone checked and the turn was the 3 . Brown led out with 11,800 and Edler raised to 29,800. Brown then moved all in, having Edler covered. Edler called and showed 3 3 for bottom set on the turn and Brown showed 10 10 for a set of tens. The river was the 5 and Edler was eliminated.
Jen Harman Eliminated
On a flop of A 8 10 , Jen Harman moved her last 17,800 into the pot and was quickly called by her opponent. Harman showed Q 10 and needed a diamond or a ten to stay alive in the tournament.
The turn was the Q , giving Harman two more outs, but the river was the 5 . Harman’s two pair weren’t enough to keep her in the main event and ended her 2009 WSOP.
Left In The Deck:
There should be some big hands to be reported on soon as Phil Ivey has moved tables and is now at the same table as Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier. They both have well over the chip average and we imagine there will be some fireworks. Also at the table are David Levi and John Monnette, who lost heads-up against Ivey at a final table this year.

Big Hands:
Edler Loses Blind vs. Blind Confrontation
It folded around to the blinds and the small blind raised and Bill Edler called from the big blind. The flop was Q 2 9 and the small blind bet 8000 and after a few moments of thought, Bill Edler put enough chips out that would force the small blind all in. The small blind instantly called and the hands were shown.
The small blind tabled Q 5 , good top pair, which was ahead of Edler’s 3 3 . The turn was the K and the river was the 4 and the small blind doubled up.
Deeb Has Aces Again, Doubles Up Again
Shaun Deeb raised under the gun and was met with a three-bet from the small blind. Deeb put in another raise and the small blind declared he was all in. Deeb called and showed A A and the small blind showed the 9 9 .
The board ran out 8 6 10 K 6 and Deeb’s aces held up. Deeb doubled up to over 120,000.
Bonomo Rivers Straight, Busts Opponent
With about 25,000 in the pot on the river, the board read 9 7 J 9 K . The player in the cutoff bet 9000 and Justin Bonomo put out a stack of chips that would be enough to put the other player all in.
The other player had 22,000 behind and thought for a few minutes before finally making the call. Bonomo tabled the Q 10 and the other player slammed down A J . Bonomo’s straight was good for the pot and the other player stormed off from the table, visibly upset at what had happened.

Eliminations:
Jacobo Fernandez
Matt Brady
Orel Hersheiser
Big Hands and Storylines:
Kenna James Loses Pot, Not Looking Hot
On a flop of 10 9 7 , a player made a bet of 2,500. His lone opponent, Kenna James, made the call and the dealer put down the Q on the turn. After several moments of deliberation, James’ opponent threw six yellow 1,000 chips across the line. James mucked his cards and finished the hand with less than 12,000 in chips.
Bjorin Struggling
With one limper into the pot for 300, a shortstacked Chris Bjorin raised to 1500. Both blinds folded and the limper called to see the flop come K 9 5 . Bjorin led out for 2000, but was then check-raised to 6000. Bjorin, now with only 8900 remaining in chips, laid his hand down.
Zolotow Still Steady
Steve Zolotow was in the big blind, and after an opening raise to 725, the small blind called and Zolotow did the same. The flop came J 6 5 , and all three players checked. The 3 came on the turn, and when the small blind checked Zolotow bet out for 1100. Both players folded, and Zolotow improved his chip stack to 21,800.
Bell Lays One Down
Chris Bell called a 1225 bet on the turn with teh board reading J 5 5 4 . After the A hit the river, Bell checked and his opponent bet 2675 into the pot. Bell folded, but remains with a healthy 39,250 in chips.
David Dawkins Draws Diamonds, Dodges Disaster, Doubles
David Dawkins, sporting a series of tattoos on his arms and a name patch identifying him as “Evil”, just found himself in a heap of trouble. An early position player limped and then another player made it 1,600 total. Dawkins in the big blind – unfazed by this development (or perhaps too intoxicated to even notice it) – moved all-in for 8,500. Action folded back around to the raiser who made a quick call with A A . Dawkins flipped over A 6 , but was given some good news when the flop came J 4 2 . Dawkins asked the dealer for a diamond and, wouldn’t you know it, the 10 landed on the turn. The 4 on the river was inconsequential and Dawkins doubled up to 17,000.
Two hands later Dawkins continued his, let’s say, “loose aggressive” style of play when action folded around to him on the button and he moved all-in for over 40 big blinds. Action made it to the big blind who had some thinking to do. Dawkins looked him in the eye and told him, “I’ve got it.” After a few more seconds of thought, the young man folded.
Bill Edler Flops Big
With the board reading 6 5 4 8 3 , two players were left in the hand. Action was on Bill Edler who quite openly admitted, “I hate myself for not betting what I think is the best hand.” After Edler’s check, his opponent checked right behind, tabling Q 4 . Edler’s hand was indeed good; he showed 3 2 for a flopped straight. That hand brings Edler up to 26,000.

$5,000 Buy-In No Limit Hold'em Six-Handed Just Hours Away
Jun 25, '08
Thursday's action at the 2008 World Series of Poker will begin with the $5,000 buy-in no limit hold'em six-handed event at noon.
Last year, 728 players fought for a bracelet with a prize pool totaling $3,421,600. Bill Edler eventually took home the title and the $904,672 that came with it. He defeated Alex Bolotin when Edler's dominated A 10 outflopped Bolotin's A Q , the board reading 10 3 3 . Edler dodged the turn and river and took home the bracelet.
Players will start with 10,000 in chips. There will be a break after the first two levels. The 90-minute dinner break will arrive at the conclusion of level 6. Players will then return and play four more levels. Play will stop after level 10 and the remaining players will return at 2 p.m. Friday for Day 2.

$10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em - Day 1 - Level 5 Recap

Richard Brodie - 37,000
Average Stack: 23,700
Eliminations:
Anna Wroblewski
Doyle Brunson
Marcel Luske
Patrik Antonius
Thor Hansen
Vivek Rajkumar
Big Hands and Storylines:
Kicker Problems for Boeken
Noah Boeken and Bill Edler tangled again, with Edler claiming his revenge on this occasion. Boeken raised from middle position and Edler re-raised him. The table folded around and Boeken made the call. The board came Q 5 5 T 8 and Boeken check-called Edler on every street. Edler tabled A Q and Boeken rapped the table, flashed a queen, and mucked his cards. With that pot Edler is up to 28,500.
Duck Tales
With only four big blinds left, Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar got all of his chips into the middle with A J against his opponent’s A 2 . When the board ran out K T 3 K 5 , Rajkumar was up to 5,000 chips. Unfortunately his day would not last much longer and he busted 15 minutes later.
So That’s Why He Wears a Suit
We here at Card Player never tire of Marcel Luske’s antics. While many players’ shenanigans can be cruel and tragic (which makes them not really shenanigans at all) Marcel’s are always good-natured and amusing. After rivering a straight against Matt Hawrilenko to stay alive in the tournament, Luske leaned close to the table, laid his necktie flat on the felt, and made a very simple request to the dealer: “Gimme da money.” The dealer – like all of the players at the table – was entertained by this turn of events and obliged the Dutchman, placing the chips on his tie. As Luske dragged the pot in a most unusual manner, Terrence Chan asked Hawrilenko, “Now wasn’t it worth it to lose that small pot?” Unfortunately for lovers of fanciful fun and dapperly-dressed Dutchman, Luske would be eliminated later in the level.
Traniello a Thorn in Arieh’s Side
Marco Traniello has just taken two pots off of Josh Arieh and increased his stack to 28,000.
In the first pot Traniello raised from the button and Arieh called in the big blind. The two checked a A J 2 flop, and Traniello took it down on the turn (4 ) when Arieh check-folded.
The next hand was a bit bigger: Marco raised in early position and Arieh 3-bet him in late position. Theo Tran called in the big blind, and Traniello called. The flop was 9 9 2 . Tran checked, Traniello bet, Arieh called, and Tran folded. Traniello and Arieh both checked the 6c turn. The 2 seemed to be a harmless river card, so when Traniello checked, Arieh fired 1,200. Traniello called and the two showed their cards:
Arieh: 8-8
Traniello T-T
Traniello’s recent run has propelled him up into the upper-third of today’s players. Arieh is down to 18,500, and Theo Tran is lingering at 13,000.

$10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em - Day 1 - Level 3 Recap

Chip Leaders:
David Oppenheim - 50,000
Terrence Chan - 39,000
Todd Witteles - 36,000

Erik Cajelais - 30,000

Eliminations:
Phil Ivey
Big Hands and Storylines:
Michael Binger: Serious Business
Darrell “Gigabet” Dicken raised from early position and was called by Michael Binger two seats to his left. Dicken bet the Q 7 5 flop and Binger called. The turn was the 4 and Dicken bet again. Binger tossed in a raise and Dicken, smiling, asked, “Whaddya got?” Binger slowly and seriously counted down the chips in front of him and gave Dicken an answer. Of course, this information wasn’t quite what “Gigabet” was looking for: “I meant the cards in your hands,” Dicken quipped, before folding his hand. We don’t know what cards Binger had, but we do know that he currently has about 24,000 in chips, a couple thousand more than Dicken’s 22,000.
Harman Hanging On
Erik Cajelais raised preflop from middle position and Harman called from the small blind. Harman checked raised him on the Q 10 7 flop and Cajelais called. The turn was the 2 and Harman bet, Cajelais raised, Harman 3-bet, and Cajelais made another raise, putting Harman all in. Harman called and the two both showed down A-Q, splitting the pot and allowing Harman to live for another hand. Harman has only about 5,000 chips left, but Cajelais is sitting pretty with 30,000.
“Waco” Standoffish
Upon losing another pot, Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby tossed down his hand in frustration and started shuffling his chips -- all four of them. The quartet of remaining 1,000-denomination chips leaves him with a mere 4,000 from his starting stack of 20,000. Hamby will need a bit of luck to dig himself out of this hole.
Boeken Re-building
Noah Boeken raised from the hijack and Bill Edler called from the cutoff. The two saw a flop of A 7 2 and both players checked. On the A turn, Boeken bet out and Edler called him. Boeken bet the river 9 , and Edler quickly folded. This hand brought Boeken back up to 10,000 in chips while Edler slipped to 19,500.
