Two More to Go

Level 17 has just ended and the remaining 11 players are about to begin Level 18 where the blinds will increase to $10,000-$20,000 with a $3,000 ante.

We lost two more players in the last level with Vivek Rajkumar finishing in 14^th place ($45,173) and Matthew Lefkowitz in 13^th place ($50,012). Lefkowitz moved all-in before the flop and Chad Batista made the call. Lefkowitz turned over A Q while Batista showed 8 8. The board came K 4 2 K K, no help to Matthew Lefkowitz as he is eliminated in 14^th place ($45,173).

Facing near elimination, Jordan Morgan moves all-in from the short stack and doubles up. The player in seat no. 3 calls Morgan all-in with A 9, but Morgan turns over A K. The board came K J 4 5 9 and Morgan doubles up.

Isaac Haxton was the next one to double up when he got involved in a huge pot with Chad Batista. Haxton raised to $45,000 before the flop and Batista re-raised to $115,000. Haxton then came back over the top and pushed all-in for another $450,000. Bastista makes the call with Q J but Haxton turns over 7 7 for the lead. The came K J 9 giving Bastista a pair of jacks for the lead and the A on the river made him a huge favorite to win the hand. The 7 hit the river and Haxton spiked his two-outer to stay alive and double up to over $1,000,000. Needless to say, Batista wasn’t too happy about the whole thing and some words were exchanged.

Jordan Morgan would be eliminated soon after doubling up when he ran into Shawn Hattem’s A-K. Morgan moves all-in before the flop with 9 8 and Shawn Hattem calls behind him with A K. The board came K 9 6 5 6, not enough help to for Jordan Morgan as he is eliminated in 12^th place ($54,852).

Alex Bolotin Eliminated in 8th Place ($40,773)

Alex Bolotin moved all in and Marcus Obser reraised all in over the top of him. Bolotin showed down 7 5 and Obser flipped over pocket eights. The board was dealt J 2 2 5 8. Bolotin was eliminated in eighth place and took home $40,773 in prize money.

John Phan Doubled Up

Devin Porter moved all in with the chip lead and John Phan made the call. The Razor flipped over K J and Porter showed down 10 8. The board was dealt A 10 8 Q 2 and Phan doubled up on the hand.

Humberto Brenes Eliminated in 7th Place ($55,918)

On the next hand, Humberto Brenes moved all in and Porter made the call. Porter showed pocket nines and Brenes turned over A K. The board was dealt 7 3 2 8 6 and Brenes was eliminated in seventh place. He took home $55,918 in prize money. “Sharks don’t swim on the land,” said Phan as Brenes made his gracious exit even in defeat. Brenes has now made three final table at this years WSOP. More than any other player.

Lars Bonding Eliminated in 6th Place ($74,557)

Lars Bonding moved all in and Phan made the call. He flipped over pocket sevens, while Bonding turned over K Q. The board was dealt 9 7 4 4 6 and Bonding hit the rail in sixth place. He took home $74,557 in prize money.

Francois Does Double Duty

Francois Safieddine then doubled up two times in a row with Big Slick and a jack high. This brought him back from the dead and gave him a fighting chance with over $600,000.

Shawn Hattem Eliminated in 5th Place ($97,856)

The turbo pace of play continued when Shawn Hattem moved all in and Porter, Phan, and Safieddine all called. The three players checked down the side pot until Safieddine fired out $65,000 on the river. Both Phan and Porter folded and Safieddine turned over A-10. The board read K Q 6 A A at this point and Hattem mucked his hand. He was elminated in fifth place and took home $97,856 in prize money.

Humberto Brenes moved all in with his customary fanfare and showmanship. Phan goes into a bout of consideration for a minute, but eventually folded his cards.

Bertrand Grospellier Eliminated in 9^th Place ($29,124)

Bertrand Grospellier is all in and Devin Porter has him covered with A J. Grospellier flipped over 3 2 and the board was dealt 10 5 5 2 A. Grospellier was eliminated in ninth place and took home $29,124 in prize money.

Things went by quietly and the players were sent on a fifteen minute break.

When the players returned from break things remained quiet as the blinds and antes were kicked up to $20,000-$40,000 and $5,000 respectively.

Denise Malloy was eliminated in 14^th place when her pre-flop raise was re-raised by François Saffieddine. Malloy came over the top and moved all-in for her last $90,000, and Saffieddine made the call. Malloy showed 5 5 and Saffieddine flipped over A K. The board came Q 9 6 8 K, bringing the king on the river to crack Malloy’s fives and eliminated her in 14^th place. She will receive $19,105.   

Mathios Wiberg was the next one to go when moved all-in pre-flop for $138,000. Shawn Hattem makes the call and flips over 1010 while Wiberg shows A 6. The board comes Q 9 7 3 K, no help to either player as Hattem’s tens hold up and Wiberg is eliminated in 13^th place, earning $19,105 for his efforts.

Alex Bolotin makes the call and flips over K J while Porter shows A Q for the lead.
