Earlier in the day, Bob Patel caught a four-outer on the river against Nancy Todd Tyner to double throught. This time around, Tyner got her revenge.

Patel raised to 12,000 and Tyner called from the button. The flop came 1075 and Patel bet 30,000. Tyner called and the turn was the 5. Again, Patel bet 30,000 and Tyner called.

The Hand That Never Was

The flop comes Q-J-10 in a three-way pot between Matt Brady, Johan Storakers and Brandon Terry. There is little action on the flop and the turn is a king, putting four to a straight on board.

At this point, Terry puts out a small bet of 50,000 to see where his 9-8, the bottom end of a flopped straight, is at in the hand. Storakers, who had flopped broadway with A-K, now min-raises to 100,000.  Brady now goes into the tank with his flopped set of jacks, knowing that he's beat but wondering if he should draw to the full house.

Eventually, he realizes that if both opponents have the ace, he'll never see the river without putting in the rest of his stack. Terry lays it down as well and the entire table is stunned that somehow the pot only amounted to just under 200,000. Who knows what would have happened if one had bet their monster on the flop.

On the first hand, Brady flopped two pair, aces and treys, but was counterfeited after the turn and river produced running tens. Still Brady made a sick call on the end to take over 150,000 from Kroon.

A few hands later, both players got it in again, this time on an 8-7-rag flop. Brady held top two pair and Kroon could only show 9-8. The turn and river bricked and Kroon was eliminated, making Brady a monster chip leader.

Matt Brady has taken a huge chip lead with over 830,000 after taking out Mark Kroon in two hands. On the first hand, Brady flopped two pair, aces and treys, but was counterfeited after the turn and river produced running tens. Still Brady made a sick call on the end to take over 150,000 from Kroon.

A few hands later, both players got it in again, this time on an 8-7-rag flop. Brady held top two pair and Kroon could only show 9-8. The turn and river bricked and Kroon was eliminated, making Brady a monster chip leader.

Brady continued his dominant run by taking out former chip leader Jason "icufish" Smith. Smith was all in with A-10 against Brady's pocket sixes. The board ran out 9-5-2-J-J and all of a sudden Brady was flirting with a cool million in chips.

Kenna James Loses Pot, Not Looking Hot

On a flop of 1097, a player made a bet of 2,500.  His lone opponent, Kenna James, made the call and the dealer put down the Q on the turn.  After several moments of deliberation, James’ opponent threw six yellow 1,000 chips across the line.  James mucked his cards and finished the hand with less than 12,000 in chips.

Bjorin Struggling

With one limper into the pot for 300, a shortstacked Chris Bjorin raised to 1500. Both blinds folded and the limper called to see the flop come K95. Bjorin led out for 2000, but was then check-raised to 6000. Bjorin, now with only 8900 remaining in chips, laid his hand down.

Zolotow Still Steady

Steve Zolotow was in the big blind, and after an opening raise to 725, the small blind called and Zolotow did the same. The flop came J65, and all three players checked. The 3 came on the turn, and when the small blind checked Zolotow bet out for 1100. Both players folded, and Zolotow improved his chip stack to 21,800.

Bell Lays One Down

Chris Bell called a 1225 bet on the turn with teh board reading J554. After the A hit the river, Bell checked and his opponent bet 2675 into the pot. Bell folded, but remains with a healthy 39,250 in chips.

David Dawkins Draws Diamonds, Dodges Disaster, Doubles

David Dawkins, sporting a series of tattoos on his arms and a name patch identifying him as “Evil”, just found himself in a heap of trouble. An early position player limped and then another player made it 1,600 total. Dawkins in the big blind – unfazed by this development (or perhaps too intoxicated to even notice it) – moved all-in for 8,500. Action folded back around to the raiser who made a quick call with AA. Dawkins flipped over A6, but was given some good news when the flop came J42. Dawkins asked the dealer for a diamond and, wouldn’t you know it, the 10 landed on the turn. The 4 on the river was inconsequential and Dawkins doubled up to 17,000.

Two hands later Dawkins continued his, let’s say, “loose aggressive” style of play when action folded around to him on the button and he moved all-in for over 40 big blinds. Action made it to the big blind who had some thinking to do. Dawkins looked him in the eye and told him, “I’ve got it.” After a few more seconds of thought, the young man folded.

Bill Edler Flops Big

With the board reading 65483, two players were left in the hand. Action was on Bill Edler who quite openly admitted, “I hate myself for not betting what I think is the best hand.” After Edler’s check, his opponent checked right behind, tabling Q4. Edler’s hand was indeed good; he showed 32 for a flopped straight. That hand brings Edler up to 26,000.

River Saves Rousso From Drowning

Vanessa Rousso had just about 18,000 before the player in seat 6 raised to 500 from late position. Vanessa Rousso called from the cutoff and the small blind repopped to 1,700. Both seat 6 and Rousso called the raise. The flop was 864 and the small blind bet 5,000. Seat 6 got out of the way and Rousso thought for a moment before shoving in for 17,000. The small blind quickly called and both players turned their hands.

Rousso needed an ace or a heart to keep her hopes alive. The turn was the J, no help, but the river was the A giving Rousso top pair and the hand. She doubled up to around 37,000.

Dewey Tomko Busts

On a board showing J8710A, Dewey Tomko was all in against one opponent. Tomko showed Q-9 for a straight to the queen, but his opponent one-upped him as he turned over KQ for a broadway straight and Tomko was sent to the rail.

Flashing a Bluff?

Robert Mizrachi raised preflop from early position to 550. One player called from late position and then the small blind reraised to 2,200. Mizrachi made the call and the late position caller folded. The flop was J47. The button bet 4,500 and Mizrachi called. The turn was the 3 and Mizrachi fired 6,200. He only had 7,000 behind after the bet. His opponent thought for a while before mucking his cards and Mizrachi flashed the K and took the pot. He was up to 31,500 after the hand.

Double the "Dan Druff"

Todd "Dan Druff" Witteles was all in on a board that showed 5328. He was called by one opponent who turned over a couple of Johnnie's, JJ. Witteles showed a couple of ladies with QQ for a dominating grasp on the hand. The river was the A and Witteles doubled up to around 31,000.

Kenny Tran Takes A Small One, Then Gets A Big Boot Out the Door

Action folded around to the player on the button who raised to 600. Kenny Tran made the call from the small blind and the big blind got out of the way. The flop was Q53. Tran checked and the button bet 1,500. Tran check-raised to 3,500 total and his opponent tucked his tail between his legs and ran out of the pot. Tran took the pot and was around 13,000.

Later, Tran lost all of those chips when he led out for 2,500 on a board of KJ3, only to have the player in seat 1 raise another 5,500 to 8,000 total. Kenny Tran called all in, showing K10 for top pair while seat 1 showed 64 for a flush draw. The turn was the Q, making seat 1's flush. The river was the 2 and Sick Call Kenny made his main event exit.

The Story of a Man Named Brady

Starting the hand with 13,600, Matt Brady raised to 575 from early position. The player on the button repopped to 1,500 and Brady made the call. The flop was 1067 and both player checked. The turn was the 8 and Brady fired 1,500 in the pot and the button raised to 5,000. Brady tanked for several minutes, then asked his opponent how much she had left (9,600). He then moved all in for 10,600 total. She took her turn in the tank before saying, "I can't beat a set of tens," and she folded. Brady smiled as he raked in the pot and was at 17,800.

Tuan Le Busts

Tuan Le had just under 5,000 in chips when he moved all in on the turn with an eight-high board. He had a top pair of eights, but he ran into his opponent's overpair with pocket jacks. The river failed to help him and Le made his exit early in Day 1B of the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

Event No. 9 Begins at Noon

The first six handed no-limit hold'em event of the summer will begin today at noon. The players will begin with 3,000 in chips and blinds will be 25-50 to kick things off. Breaks will take place every two levels, and a dinner break is scheduled for the end of level six. Day 1 will play through the conclusion of level 10. Day 2 resumes at 2 p.m. tomorrow and will end when the final six players have been reached. The final table will take place on Saturday, June 7 at 2 p.m.

This event is a favorite of professionals who favor aggressive play, and the field should be a stong one, as well as a large one. One year ago, 1,427 players entered the fray, and at the end only one remained. Jason Warner took down hist first gold bracelet, along with $481,698 at a final table that also featured Matt Brady, who finished in fifth place. Monsefi Up. Brady Down.

With the board reading K7625, Amir Monsefi bets 15,000 into a 25,000 pot. Matt Brady calls and quickly mucks when he sees Monsefi’s K5. Monsefi’s rivered two-pair propels him to 240,000 and leaves Brady with a mere 50,000.

“Flipaments”

Pia Jeppesen moves her last 80,000 chips all-in from late position and Ryan D’Angelo calls from the big blind with KJ. Jeppesen shows 55 and the two are, indeed, flipping. The cards come out A8364 and Jeppesen takes a rare pot off of D’Angelo. She now sits with a not insignificant 170,000, but D’Angelo still holds a commanding table lead with 450,000.

Bluffing the Night Away

If we learned one thing in the last level, it’s that Scott Einiger is not afraid to bluff. With the board showing J62A6, Joe Gotlieb checks over to Einiger, who bets 60,000 into a 125,000 pot. Gotlieb agonizes, stands, hems, and haws, but eventually makes the call. Einiger, at the request of the dealer, showed his hand first: K5. Gttlieb tabled his KK and admitted, “I almost out-thought myself there.” That pot brings Gottlieb up to 285,000.

Flushed

James Akenhead raised pre-flop to 2,400 and both blinds called. On a QJ9 flop, Mike Ngo bet out 3,500 and was raised by Ginikachukwu Izuogu. Akenhead then moved all-in, putting Ngo to a difficult decision. Ngo eventually folded, and Izuogu made the call behind him. They turned up their cards:

The turn was the T, giving Izuogu a straight draw in addition to his flush draw. The river was the 3, making Izuogu his flush, giving him 360,000 in chips and crippling Akenhead.

On a board of 8773K, Brian Miller makes a huge all in bet with A6.  Chip leader Jason Warner made the call with K10 and sent Miller home in 6th place with $61,357.

On the next hand after Miller elimination, Matt Brady moved all in from the button with K6.  Warner thinks only briefly then makes the call with A6.  The board comes 764Q10, Brady fails to improve and is sent home in 5th place for $92,523.

Not wasting anytime following the level break, William Vosti was eliminated in seventh place. Vosti pushed all in with pocket sevens and was called by David Mitchell-Lolis in the small blind with aces. The board didn't improve either player and Vosti is the seventh place finisher. Vosti earned $46,749.

Here's a Story, of a Man Named Brady

The remaing 20 players returned from their dinner break to find one player in the field, Matt Brady, involved in an argument with tournament officials. Visibly upset and agitated, Brady was involved with tournament officials over a dispute in his chip stack. Before dinner the $500 chips were colored up and in this process tournament officials came to the conclusion that Brady had been given $75,000 too much. Brady was adamant that he left for dinner with $332,000 and now he had only $260,000. Tournament officials reviewed the tape from the security cameras and ruled that Brady did indeed have an extra $75,000 in his stack. When asked if he could review the tape personally, Brady was denied. Left with no options but still not in agreement, Brady took his seat and began to play. Brady made some good moves and built his stack back up to over $300,000.

In just one short hour since returning from dinner, the field is down to 14 players at three tables. Christoffer Stahle was heads up against Farzad Fadai on the river with the board showing 95438. Stahle bet out enough to push Fadai all in on the river and Fadai quickly called with A-Q for only ace high. Stahle called and showed Fadai pocket aces. Fadai was eliminated in 17th place, earning $14,804.

After having aces numerous times throughout the day, the deck continued to hit Stahle in the face a few hands later. With the blinds at $4,000-$8,000 David Mitchell-Lolis pushed all in for $107,000. Stahle made the call and showed KK. Mitchell-Lolis turned over AK. The board came 103245 to give Mitchell-Lolis the four card straight. Mitchell-Lolis doubled up and said to Stahle, "Didn't even make a dent. Don't worry."

The day two chip leader, J.C. Tran was eliminated in 15th place when he got involved in a hand against Joe Awada. Awada called Tran's all in bet with pocket aces and Tran's hand never improved.

Some Big Names Go Down

We are down to 6 Tables now in the short handed Event.  31 players remain, some notable, most not. 

During the last level, Rep Porter, "Miami" John Cernuto, Matt "SamENole" Smith, Eric "Sheets" Haber, Carl Olson and Erik Seidel were eliminated. 

Seidel bet $7,500 on a flop of Q106 into Matt Brady.  Brady reraised to $20,500.  Perhaps Seidel believed Brady was bullying him with the big stack at the table because he decided to reraised all-in for an additional $25,000 or so.  Brady instacalled and tabled Q10 for top two pair.  Seidel was in trouble with 108.  The turn and river came JA and Erik Seidel was eliminated in 40th for $5,844. 

Haber was eliminated by Jason Warner when Warner's pocket Aces held against Haber's Open Ended Straight Draw with J 8 on a 10 9 5 board.  Haber was eliminated in 37th place for $5,844. 

Still in contention for the bracelet are big stacks Jason Warner, Alex Balandin, J.C. Tran and Matt Brady.  Also in contention is Joe Awada, Fred Goldberg and Matt "Choppy" Kay.

Players Staying Aggressive

It only took two minutes to get down to the final 10 tables and only 15 minutes to get to the final 9.  On those 9 tables is two particularly stacked ones. 

Table 78 is lined with pros, including Eric "Sheets" Haber, Matt "SamENole" Smith, Matt Brady and Fred Goldberg.  Table 76 isn't far behind with Rep Porter, Joe Awada, Carl Olson and Matt "Choppy" Kay. 

There is a crowd of about 40 people lining the rail near J. C. Tran's table.  Although many are looking over to see Erik Seidel and "Miami" John Cernuto at there respective tables as well. 

During the level, Carl Olson was able to double through Rep Porter.  Porter called Olson's all in showing A8, but was dominated by Olson's AK.  The board came K76103, and Olson narrowly avoided chopping the pot to double up to around $53,000. 

We are also down to our last remaining female participant, Annette Nichols, who is sitting with $95,000.
