The player on the button raised to 6,000 preflop and Phil Hellmuth made the call from early position. The flop came down 7 6 6 and both players checked. The turn was the A and Hellmuth checked again. The button then reached for chips and bet 15,000.
“It’s a good bet,” Hellmuth said with a sigh as he threw his 9 9 into the muck face up. “You gave it to me,” the button said as he flashed the A . Hellmuth was at 343,000.

The World Is A Lie
The player in seat 4 raised to 1,500 preflop and John Hennigan called from the cutoff. The big blind also came along and the flop came down 9 6 5 . Action was checked to Hennigan and he bet the pot with 3,500. The big blind made the call and seat 4 mucked. The turn was the A and both players checked. The river was the 4 and the big blind checked to Hennigan, who fired 15,000. The big blind tanked for a while and then called.
Hennigan tapped the table, signifying he was caught with nothing and the big blind took down the pot with just 7 5 , a pair of fives. Hennigan was down to 53,000 after that failed bluff attempt. He would later bust.
The Hammer Of Thor
The player in seat 6 raised to 1,500 preflop and Thor Hansen made the call from the big blind. The flop came down Q 8 4 and both players checked. The turn was the K and Hansen led out with 2,200. Seat 6 called and the river was the A . Hansen led out again, this time for 7,200. Seat 6 gave up his hand and Hansen was at 44,000.
Reach Out And Grab your Opponents Hand
Four players saw a flop of A 4 2 and they all checked. The turn was the 2 and Eli Elezra bet 4,000. The player in seat 7 called and the other two players mucked. The river was the 8 and Elezra checked. Seat 7 took control, betting 5,000.
Elezra then went into the tank for a minute. After a bit of waiting, seat 7 leaned his hand to the middle of the table, ready to either turn the hand over or throw it in the muck depending on what Elezra did. Elezra then playfully reached across the table and tried to flip over his opponents hand. Seat 7 held on for dear life and Elezra just mucked his hand. “You aren’t turning my hand over,” seat 7 said. “He wasn’t really gonna do that,” Michael Kamran replied from seat 3. “He got scared,” Elezra joked. Everyone had a good time, especially seat 7 since he took the pot. Elezra was at 44,000.
This Bomb Is A Dud
Phil Laak has been eliminated from the 2009 main event. He made his last stand with Q 9 and was actually racing against his opponent’s 8 8 . Unfortunately for Laak, he could not pull out the hand and he was eliminated.
Oh Sweet Jesus, The Man Doubled Up
Chris Ferguson now has a few extra chips to toss around as he has doubled up.
Ken Kelly raised to 2,000 from the button and called from the small blind. The two players saw a flop of Q Q 2 and Ferguson led out with 8,000 chips. Kelly made the call and the 7 fell on the turn. Ferguson led out again, this time for 17,000. Kelly came over the top with all of his chips, having Ferguson covered.
Ferguson made the call and showed A Q . Kelly tabled A K for just ace-high. The river was just a formality, bringing the 9 and Ferguson doubled up to 145,000.
Corkins Doubles, Still Short
Hoyt Corkins moved all in preflop for his last 4,000 chips. He was called by one opponent who tabled A J . Corkins was in good shape with A K . The board ran out 8 7 4 10 5 and Corkins doubled to 8,000.

Tilly was in a race situation with two overcards but could not connect and she was down to 12,000 in chips.
Hansen Picks Up Aces, Takes Pot
Gus Hansen was in the big blind and was battling with the small blind. On the river the board read 6 2 K J 7 and there was already over 10,000 in the pot.
The small blind checked over to Hansen, who bet 4450. The small blind tanked for a minute or so before begrudgingly tossing in the call. Hansen showed the A A and his opponent in the small blind just shook his head and mucked his hand.
Johnny Chan Doubles Up, Cripples Steve Paul-Ambrose
Johnny Chan got all of his chips in the middle preflop against Steve Paul-Ambrose. With his tournament life on the line, Chan tabled A K and was way ahead of the A Q of Ambrose.
The board ran out J 2 2 3 A , which was not good enough for Steve Paul-Ambrose, and gave Chan the pot. Chan doubled to 14,000, but Ambrose was left with just 6000
Andy Black Takes A Pot
On a flop of 9 5 3 , Andy Black bet 1,200 and his opponent in seat 2 made the call. The turn was the 7 and Black fired another 3,000. Seat 2 decided to muck his hand and Black took the pot, improving his stack to 66,000.

Naujoks then took a long tank session to decide whether to commit her remaining 18,750 into the pot. After a couple of minutes, she finally decided to release her hand.
David Grey Busts
David Grey was all in against his opponent. Grey was holding 8 5 and flopped two pair as it fell J 8 5 . However, his opponent made a flush and Grey was ousted from the main event.
Straight Flushed
With over 12,000 in the pot preflop, the flop came down 5 3 2 . Mike Sexton moved all in and his opponent made the call. Sexton tabled 5 4 for top pair and a straight flush draw while his opponent tabled 3 3 for a set. The turn made Sexton his flush as the 8 fell. The river then brought the 6 , making Sexton a straight flush to add insult to injury as his opponent was eliminated and Sexton was up to 40,000.
Andy Bloch Loses Race and Ends Main Event Run
After a middle position limper, a short stacked Andy Bloch moved all in for his remaining chips. The limper ended up calling Bloch’s all in and showed 4 4 and was racing against Bloch’s A J .
The flop was 8 K Q , giving Bloch a straight draw to go along his overcards. The turn gave Bloch more outs as it was the Q . Bloch was unable to catch a K, 8, 10, J, or A on the river as the 7 fell and eliminated him from the tournament.

According to Matusow, he went from 75,000 to bust in a matter of only three hands. Matusow was eliminated in 33rd place.
Cunningham Scoops on Seventh
Allen Cunninham: 4 K A 6
Opponent: 7 5 7 3
Cunningham played passively from the outset, simply calling on streets three through five. Then, on 6th street, he raised his opponent’s bet, which was met by a call. His opponent checked to him on 7th street and Cunningham bet again. The other player called and Cunningham showed (Q )(2 )(3 ). His opponent to his right angrily mucked his hand and shouted to someone following him on the rail, “Rivered again!” The pot takes Cunningham up to 108,000.
Ruthenberg Snags More from Ferguson
Fresh off their last confrontation in which the German won a big pot, Sebastian Ruthenberg and Chris Ferguson tangled again. Ruthenberg brought in with the 3 and Ferguson completed his 4 . Ruthenberg called and bet out on 4th street when he drew the A and Ferguson was given the 9 . Ferguson called, and on 5th street Ruthenberg bet his 5 and Ferguson, having bought a 4 , folded. Ruthenberg’s stack is still hovering near 200,000 while Ferguson is at 108,000.

Big Hands and Storylines:
That’s Why They Call Him “The Mouth”
Mike Matusow can consider himself doubly unlucky – well, as unlucky as someone who just won a bracelet can be – not only was he moved from his earlier table, but his new seat has Shawn Sheikhan to its right and Patrick Bueno to its left. Add to that Marcel Luske and Steve Sung and Matusow’s new table is quite the minefield.
Of course, it didn’t take very long for Matusow to get involved in a hand and it was against the chip leader Steve Sung:
Matusow: 7 8 K Q
Sung: A J 9 3
Sung raised on 3rd street and Matusow called. On 4th street, Sung checked, Matusow bet, and Sung called. Matusow drew a face card on 5th street and Sung bet into him, Matusow called. Action went bet-call again on 6th street, then both players checked it on the end. Sung showed (A )(4 )(K ) for a pair of aces and that was enough to scoop the pot. Sung has now amassed a massive stack of 300,000.
A bit of playful verbal sparring took place between Matusow and Sung a bit later, with Matusow showing where his allegiance lies. Spouted Matusow, “If I’m not in a pot I’m rooting for you [Sung]. If you’re not in a pot I’m rooting for Marcel. If he’s not in a pot I’m rooting for Sheiky.” Then, after taking a bit of guff from the other players at the table Matusow quipped, “I’m not biased. I hate you all.”
May All Your Pots Be Scooped
Mike Sexton just tripled up against Alessio Isaia and another opponent. Sexton was all-in on 3rd street for 9,000 against Isaia and another player. By 7th street the third player had dropped out and it was only Sexton and Isaia. The two showed their hands:
Sexton: (2 )(3 )(7 )4 7 J 6
Isaia: (A )(3 )(3 )Q 7 5 6
Remarkably, Sexton was able to take down the entire pot with only a pair of 7s and a 7-6-4-3-2 low. The pot takes him up to 30,000, nothing to write home about, but much preferable to hitting the rail.
Ruthenberg Wins a Massive, Massive Pot
A massive pot just took place between Sebastian Ruthenberg, Chris Ferguson, Farzad Rouhani, and Alex Jacob. The action was raised on 3rd street, but the real meat of the hand came on 4th street, where all four players remained in the hand (Jacob all-in) while the betting was capped. Heavy action continued on the rest of the hand with Rouhani bowing out on 6th street. At the conclusion of the hand Rutherberg showed 3 4 A 7 (5 )(6 )(Q ), good enough to scoop the pot. Ferguson mucked his 4 3 7 A , and was still left with 115,000 despite taking a big hit. Ruthenberg, with 195,000, now sits 2nd in chips. Alex Jacob's night is through.

Notable Hands:
Sexton Scoops Ivey
On fifth street, Phil Ivey was showing 10 9 K , and called a bet from Mike Sexton, who showed 7 2 4 . Ivey called another bet on sixth, hitting the 5 while Sexton was dealt A . He called Sexton's final bet on the river, mucking his hand and returning his attention to the Lakers when Sexton showed 7 7 5 4 3 2 A for the wheel, scooping the high and the low.
The Chainsaw Makes House, Cuts Through Stack
On sixth street, Allen Kessler fired at the pot, showing 7 7 A 7 to his opponent's A 3 4 9 . On seventh, the dealer made an error, dealing the cards out of order and giving Kessler his card first. By the time the error had been noticed and the floor had been called, Kessler had already seen the card, which actually belonged to his opponent. The floor ruled that both hands would be declared all-in, freezing betting action for that round. Kessler turned over his new card, a 5 , pairing his hidden 5 and making him a full house. His opponent hit a K on the end, and showed the A , playing a pair of aces for his high hand with no low draw. Kessler scooped the pot.
Elezra Moves Harman Off Hand
Elezra completed on third showing A , and Harman made the call showing 4 . She also called on fourth, catching the Q while Elezra hit the 7 . When Elezra hit 6 and fired again, Harman folded, apparently failing to improve her hand with the K on fifth street. Elezra took down the pot, and continued making a good show of defending his title.

Ante: 25
Bring In: 50
Limits: 150-300
Players Remaining: 261
Stacked Table:
Eli Elezra, Allen Cunningham, Jennifer Harman-Traniello, Alex Jacob

Table 48 continues to add superb players to its ranks. The latest to be moved over to the table is Michael Binger. He joins Marco Traniello, Max Pescatori, James Mackey, Ted Forrest, and Steve Zolotow.
Hold’em
Mackey Making His Mark
Marco Traniello raised pre-flop from middle position and James Mackey three-bet him from the small blind. Traniello made the call. Mackey led out at the A 8 4 flop and Traniello swiftly called. Mackey checked the 7 turn and Traniello bet 2,400. Mackey made it 4,800 and Traniello called. Mackey again bet out on the river 3 and Traniello called. Mackey showed 8 8 for the flopped set and Traniello, perhaps thinking he had won the pot, momentarily flipped over A-K then scrambled to return his cards face down. Traniello is still in no danger of elimination with nearly 55,000 in chips, but Mackey has him beat with 59,000.

Tran-tastic
Todd Brunson: A 3 K 2
Loi Tran: 2 4 4 6
Todd Brunson raised with the A showing and Loi Tran called him with the 2 . On 4th street, Brunson led out and Tran quickly called. Brunson check-called on 5th street when he was dealt a king, then again on the river. On the end, Brunson again checked and Tran continued his pattern of betting. Brunson took more time to make this decision but ended up making the call. Tran showed (7-5-3) for 6-high and that was enough to win the pot, boosting him to 41,000. Brunson has 28,000.

Gracz vs. Glantz Part II
Glantz: T 3 6 6
Gracz: Q 2 J Q
Matthew Glantz raised with the T showing and Michael Gracz called him with the Q . Gracz check-called on 4th street and checked again on 5th. Glantz too checked on 5th street, slowing down a bit. 6th street paired both players, sixes for Glantz and queens for Gracz. Gracz bet out and Glantz dejectedly folded. After the hand Glantz was left with a meager 6,000.

Forrest Plants Bax
Ted Forrest bet every single street and was called all the way down by Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy. Their cards were:
Forrest: 5 A 7 10 (A 6 4 )
Josephy: 8 2 A 4 (6 8 10 )
Josephy made an 8-low but it didn't beat Forrest's 7-low and Forrest also took the high pot with a pair of aces. The pot put Forrest over 14,000 in chips.
Sneaky One-Armed Italian Pirate
Max Pescatori, who still wears one arm in a sling and can only use one hand, bet 1,000 on 7th street and was called by one opponent. His opponent angrily mucked when he saw Pescatori's hand - 6 4 A 4 (A 2 7 ) for a pair of aces and the 7-low. Pescatori scooped the pot and now has around 23,000 in chips. A player from another table shouted over, "Imagine how many chips you'd have if you had two hands."
Harman's Stack Grows
Showing 10 8 Q K Harman bet 1,000 on 7th street and was called by one opponent. She showed her down cards of A K 8 , giving her two pair and taking the entire pot. Her opponent mucked and Harman saw her stack grow to 11,000.

Ramdin: 8 4 10 9 (? ? ?)

Sexton Knocks Off The Weak
An opponent with a short stack got his money all in on a flop of 10 8 3 and was called by the small blind, Mike Sexton, who showed 10 7 for top pair. The all in player showed ace high and failed to improve on a 8 turn and 2 river. Sexton had around 16,000 after the hand.
