Seat 3: X-X-2 K 4 7
Lunkin bet another 3,000 and both of his opponents called. The river was dealt and Lunkin bet 3,000. Seat 3 called and Brunson looked down at his hole cards. He was disgusted and threw his hand into the muck. He then slammed the table with his hand. Lunkin showed (Q 7 5 ) for a spade flush. Seat 3 showed (A 3 2 ) for a 7-low and they chopped up the pot that had many chips from Brunson. Lunkin was at 107,000 while Brunson was at 135,000.

Perry Doesn’t Care For Mad Geniuses
Action folded around to Mike Caro in the small blind and he raised to 1,000. Ralph Perry made the call from the big blind and the players saw a flop of J J 5 . Caro checked and Perry bet 500. Binger was all in for 76,100 and he now holds a stack of 160,000. He will need to finish in first place to beat John Phan for POY honors and we'll keep you posted on his progress.

T.J. Cloutier Crippled Then Eliminated
On a flop of K-J-6, T.J. Cloutier bet out and Lyle Berman raised. Cloutier just called and the turn was a queen. Cloutier led out again and Berman raised again. This time Cloutier reraised and Berman capped it. Cloutier called and the river was another jack. Cloutier bet out again, Berman raised and Cloutier just called after a moment of deliberation and with a somewhat confused look on his face. Berman turned over pocket queens for queens full of jacks while Cloutier showed K-J for jacks full of kings. Cloutier threw his hand into the muck and said, "Mother F@#Ker, that was a $50,000 hand!" Cloutier was of course refering to the buy-in not the pot size, as this hand left him crippled and pretty much killed his tournmanet life. That hand just cost Cloutier his $50,000 buy-in.
Now crippled and left with less than 10,000 in chips, Cloutier got it all in a few hands later against Alex Kostritsyn. The money went in pre-flop and both palyers turned over their cards,
Cloutier: 10 3
Kostritsyn: A 4
Board: K J 7 J 7
Cloutier was so short stacked that he literally had to get it all in this hand. No help on the board and T.J. Cloutier was eliminated by Lyle Berman although Kostrtisyn officially got the kill.
Omaha 8/b
Todd Brunson Eliminated by Gabe Kaplan
Gabe Kaplan raised from middle position, Todd Brunson called the raise as did Katja Thater from the big blind. The flop came Q J 5 , and Kaplan bet. Both Brunson and Thater called. The turn was the 2 and this time Thater bet out. Kaplan raised, Brunson called all in for his last 20,000 and Thater called the raise. The river was the 9 and Thater checked to Kaplan who bet. Thater called and Kaplan turned over a pair of queens, winning both the side and main pots as Thater mucked her hand and Todd Brunson made his exit.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Hold’em
Good Start For Forrest
Erick Lindgren raised from middle position and action folded around to Ted Forrest in the big blind who made the call. The flop was J 10 10 and Forrest check-called a bet from Lindgren. The turn was the 7 . Again Forrest checked and Lindgren bet. Forrest then raised and Lindgren called. Forrest bet the 4 river and Lindgren made the call. Forrest showed down K J and took down a nice sized pot. Forrest is now just below the starting stack of 100,000. Lindgren is among the chip leaders with 200,000.
Horse Does Start With An “H”
Having been questioned about the situation by a few players, Jack Effel brought up the issue of whether the first game of each day should be hold’em or, instead, a game chosen by random draw. Effel asked for a show of hands from those who were in favor of a random game to start off each day. His request was met by only a meager show of hands, indicative more perhaps of the players ambivalence toward the situation than any real opinion. With such a lackluster show of hands, it appears that hold’em will be the game to start each of the days of this tournament. Mickey Appleman said it best, “Why complicate things?”
Omaha/8b
Fitoussi Gets Cut Out
Hasan Habib limped from early position and was joined on the flop by David Singer, Patrick Bueno, Michael Binger, and Bruno Fitoussi. The flop came A K 2 . Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, Singer and Bueno folded, Binger raised, and Fitoussi and Habib called. On the J turn, Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, Binger raised again, and Fitoussi and Habib called. The river was the 6 . Again Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, and Binger and Fitoussi called. Habib showed A 4 2 2 for the nut flush while Binger tabled 10 5 4 3 for the nut low. Fitoussi showed... nothing. He mucked his hand quietly and shuffled his remaining 40,000 in chips. Habib has a more stable 80,000, and Binger has an even better 115,000.
Stud
“I Can’t Believe I Laid It Down!”
With boards reading:
Eli Elezra: Q 10 K 2
Annie Duke: 3 8 9 6
Elezra after leading out on 5th street, checked his hand on 6th street. Duke bet and Elezra went into the tank. After about 90 seconds of thinking, he flipped his upcards over and the conceded the pot to Duke. Apparently Elezra wasn’t too crushed by the lost pot, as he joked, “I can’t believe I laid that down. Two fours!” Elezra has about 85,000. Even with that pot Duke finds herself with only 30,000 in chips.
Stud/8b
Kaplan and Corkins Split Galfond’s Chips
Corkins: 7 4 5 2
Kaplan: J Q 10 4
Galfond: A K 6 8
Hoyt Corkins completed with the 7 up, Gabe Kaplan called with the J , Phil Galfond raised with an A , and the two others called. Galfond led into his two elder statesmen on 4th street and was called by both. 5th street and 6th street shared the same action: Galfond checked, Corkins bet, and Kaplan and Galfond both called. Corkins bet 7th street and was raised by Kaplan, this put Galfond in a difficult position and he was forced to lay down his hand. A bit overeager, Kaplan flipped over his hand before Corkins made his decision. Corkins saw his opponent’s J J T for a full house and made the call, showing A 4 3 for a wheel. Corkins took down half of the pot, but was unlucky not to scoop it. After the hand, Corkins had 45,000, Kaplan 85,000, and Galfond 95,000.

She said she may have had a better hand than she thought.
Same Hands Lose to Slightly Better One
Chau Giang bet 2,500 and was called on a A Q 10 flop by the players in seat 4 and seat 7. All three players checked the J turn and Q river and showed down their hands. Both Giang and seat 4 showed A-7 as the best cards they could muster from their hands, and seat 7 showed A-9 to take narrowly take the pot.

Gabe Kaplan Struggling to Stay Alive
On a board of Q J 6 6 5 , Gabe Kaplan faced a bet from his opponent and deliberated before throwing his cards into the muck and giving up on a pot worth over 12,000 in chips. “I flopped two pair,” the player told Kaplan as he mucked his cards face down and dragged the pot. Kaplan finished the hand with less than 15,000 in chips.
Chau Giang and Bill Gazes Split a Pot
Chau Giang Checked to Bill Gazes on a board of A J 3 2 , and Gazes thought pensively before checking behind. The Q river was dealt, prompting Giang to bet. Gazes made the call, and Giang turned over his A 10 3 2 for a ten-high flush. Gazes turned over K K 8 5 for a playable low, and the two players split the pot.
Mickey Appleman Trying to Improve His Short Stack
In a hand on table 15 in the orange section of the Amazon Room, the action folded to Mickey Appleman on the button. Appleman called, as did Annie Duke in the small blind.
