Alan Smurfit was born in 1942 in Dublin, Ireland. Always a business-minded individual, he became the chief executive officer of a company called Smurfit Latin America, which was a division of the Jefferson Smurfit Group. At the age of 60, he retired after the company sold for $1.9 billion. Since he was so accustomed to a busy lifestyle, Smurfit immediately looked for a way to spend his time.
Three years ago, he started watching poker on television and fell in love with the game. He went on to win a World Series of Poker bracelet at the 2007 $1,500 buy-in pot-limit Omaha with rebuys event.
