Steve Sung – $97,416 Defending Champion David Baker Eliminated in 6th Place ($51,485) Defending Champion David Baker had a tough level. He started the level as one of the short stacks and cemented that role about halfway through the level after doubling up Steve Sung when Sung stood pat with a J – 7 and Baker drew one, pairing eights with 8 – 4 – 3 – 2. Baker was down to less than full big blind after that hand and found some relief in a quick quadruple up after drawing a 10 – 7 low against Richard Ashby’s J -10 in a four-way pot. Soon thereafter and David Baker would get it all in again against Steve Sung, Sung getting the best of it again. Steve Sung raised to 50,000 before the draw, David Baker moved all in for about 10,000 more and both Phil Hellmuth and Sung called the raise. Sung and Baker each drew one card while Hellmuth drew two. Hellmuth bet 50,000 at the side pot and Sung folded. Hellmuth showed 10 – 9 – 8 – 3 – 2 while baker showed 9 – 7 – 5 – 4 – A. Nick Schulman Breaks Down First Level CoolerJan 06, '11
The players started with 250,000 in chips and blinds of 500-1,000 with a 100 ante, and both players were hovering around those stacks when the hand went down. Schulman raised from under the gun with pocket aces and was called by Sorel Mizzi. Berendsen three-bet from the button. Schulman four-bet, getting Mizzi to fold and Berendsen five-bet four about a quarter of his stack. Schulman moved in and was called by pocket kings, giving him twice as many chips as anyone in the field. Check out Schulman’s analysis of the hand below. Nick Schulman’s Hand Analysis “I played with him alot in a tournament in Monte Carlo. We were pretty deep and playing a lot of hands against each other, so that was pretty much my history with him. I knew he was a pretty active player, but also really tough. I made it 2,500 from under the gun and Sorel called immediately to my left. It folded around to Koen on the button and he made it 10,200. I was thinking that I wanted to just go ahead and build a big pot right there with Koen, while shutting Sorel out of the hand. I figured he had a strong hand that he’d most likely call a four-bet with, so I reraised to 28,500. Sorel folded and Koen didn’t waste much time making it 65,000. I thought that given our history, a ship from me doesn’t necessarily have to scream big strength. Against some other players, I might have just called, but at the time, I thought there were a few hands he might have stacked off with, including queens or even jacks. I’m not so sure that was actually the case, but I was fortunate that he had two kings and was never getting away from them. He actually snap called me, so that just shows you that he was paying attention when we played in Monte Carlo, because I was showing down some crazy stuff then." Player Tags: Nick Schulman |

Nick Schulman's Appearance On ESPNDec 19, '10
If you didn’t see it, you can catch a clip on YouTube. Schulman was talking about the experience at his table today, explaining that Lee was talking trash and encouraging him to do so as well. Apparently, just as he started getting in on the action, LeBron James hit a falling away jump shot before landing on Schulman, giving him a sweaty armpit to the face as a result. You can’t get much closer to the game than that. Player Tags: Nick Schulman |
