Losing Never Felt So Good - Q&A with Bill Gazes
Bill Gazes is having a tough time at this year's World Series of Poker main event, but you'd never guess it by his cheery disposition. Still chasing his first WSOP bracelet win, Gazes navigated through day one only to run up against some tough circumstances during the second day of play.
Card Player caught up with Gazes during the chip race break during day 2A to discuss his outlook on the main event thus far.
Bill Gazes: I started the day with 25,000, and I was in short-stack defensive mode. I picked up a couple of big hands, but I had to be a bit defensive with them. I had a real good hand that got me to about 55,000, but a guy just made a flush on me. Towards the end of the level, a guy raised and I called with two tens. On the turn the board had 8

, but there was about 40,000 in the pot and I only had to call 6,000 more from his all in. I knew I was beat, but there was just too much out there.
It was tough. Finally I had some good stuff going. I was getting control of the table, and I was getting some chips together. But I feel good. It's a nice feeling when you lose a huge pot and feel really good afterward. I've felt good all day. I've felt great all day!
AP: I understand you've been at the same table all day.
BG: Yeah, I've been at the corner all day. I feel good about it. I think when I'm playing well and I feel strong like this, it doesn't matter that I only have 25,000 or 30,000. I don't know. It seems like a bigger stack to me than everyone else out there!
AP: Your table is due to break sometime today and have its players redistributed to the other tables. How do you usually adjust your play for an impending table break?
BG: I call them names. When I know the table's about to break I say bad things about them. Then, when we get our new table assignments, I run!
