Good Cards but only 25,200
It is almost time for me to get going on Day 2 of the EPT Grand Final here in Monte Carlo. I have 25,200, which is not really all that impressive considering the blinds and antes. But, then again, I am really happy to make it to Day 2.
For once in a tournament I actually had quite a few monster hands during Day 1. I hit three sets - unfortunately without any reaction from my opponents - and I had Aces twice, Kings once and Queens once. Alas, no one had anything nor did they try any kamikaze moves on me when I did have the goods.
Here is one of the monster hands. We are playing 150/300, ante 25. I make it 1,150 from early position with

The BB calls.
Flop:

He checks and I sneakily check behind.
Turn:
.
Two flush draws out there and I gotta start putting some money in the pot. He checks and I make it 1,625 with my set of Aces. My joker opponent looks at me and single-raises to 3,250. What to do, what to do. If I am up against a flush draw, I would like him to put more money in the pot and he might even call with a high pair and definitely with a good Ace (although very unlikely that he is holding the final Ace in the deck).
I sort of single-raise him right back making it 5,600 and he goes into the tank. Unfortunately, he decides to fold his Q-Q. Why the guy didn't reraise me preflop with such a strong holding is a mystery, but I guess he lost close to the minimum on the hand.
I was up to 40K at some point, but ended up losing quite a few pots during the final level, where I paid off my opponents after they hit their 3-outers or 7-outers on the river. Curious Gus, I suppose.
Anyway, I am all set to hit sets again today. Feeling confident about my game.
